Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making Start11 a better product.
I'm using Windows 11. I thought the issue started happening right after the update, but I'll be happy to check the option if you could direct me to where to check for that option?
I'm trying out Start11 on Windows 11 with a small taskbar. The problem is it wastes a lot of space: between task's icon and name, between tasks. Wish this space were used to show more of task names instead.
Running 1.24 on Insider Dev build - I use auto-hide taskbar enabled.
Sometimes the taskbar is not hidden but has no pinned icons on it, it's blank - if I hover the mouse over where the icons should be then they appear.
Just wanted to report it here in case it's a Start11 not a Windows problem.
I have an issue with pinning items to start11 (Windows 10 style menu). The icon is thrown to the top of the current icons and displaces those currently in place. Takes time to clean up. Icons should be appearing on the bottom of the screen.
Noted this search issue starting from 1.24 Start11.
When activating Old Classic Start 10 Search (from main menu, Search tab), documents and files are correctly found when typing characters, when using the new start 11 search, no user files are found while typing.
I've tried rebuilding Windows search index, removing (purging) and reinstalling Start 11, no luck.
Please bring back Search Function, the main reason I bought Start 11!

Is Start 11 now responsible for broken drag-to-open-programs functionality to be broken? Before I could drag some files from Desktop to the open letter in The Bat! and they become attachments, now it is not possible (stop sign when trying to do that). And also all functionality of drag to attach/open for various websites is also broken - even if website says "drag files here to open them" and before it was working, now it is not possible. So the question is - is Start11 responsible or Microsoft again changes this fundamental functionality essentially removing it?
【BUG】When one icon is flashing, other icons will also flash together.

If you are dragging without any interaction with the taskbar then Start11 will not be responsible for this.
Start11 is only involved when dragging files over the taskbar in which case Start11 will then bring the window under the mouse to the top. It does not get involved otherwise.

Thanks for clarification, some weird shit is going on then
This is a bug I've been having for a very long time, through quite a few Start11 updates including the most recent: Sometimes (but not always), when I have Outlook running and click on the taskbar icon to bring it forward, or to see the open windows popup, it opens a new instance of the program instead.
This doesn't happen with any other programs, just Outlook. =/

Found an interesting error that I believe is in Start11 1.24 - currently running Windows 11 Home version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.708, not an insider build). I was working "keyboard only" and went to lock the display; Winkey+L wasn't working (happens sometimes, that's not the bug) so I:
1) Hit Winkey to bring up the Start menu
2) Up-arrowed to the "User" icon at the top of the menu:
3) Hit "Enter" so I could pick lock from there; but it didn't open the expected switch user/lock/signout menu as it does with the mouse, instead it gave me this error dialog:
Repeatable 100% on my system; activating start with the mouse and then arrowing up and hitting "Enter" gives the same result. Clicking the user icon with the mouse always pulls up the proper submenu.
Hi
I am still getting this issue that if I hover over an icon on the toolbar (eg Outlook) then it shows another app (in this case Slack). If I click on the Icon (ie Outlook) it will then open Slack. SO too open Outlook I have to use ALt-Tab
Great if you could fix this
Thank you!
This will be fixed in the next update, thank you for reporting it!

Awesome, thanks!
Hi I am prompted to update but get this error on the instal process
Hi,
prior to 1.24 it was able for me to change the taskbar color to black, choosing black now results in a grey. Did I miss something here?
Changing to other colors works without problems.
Thx & Greetings
I have a similar issue to this, reported here: https://forums.stardock.com/513019/page/1/#3855637
not sure if this counts as an issue or its something inherent to the way start11 operates but its unsightly. the standard windows 11 start menu shows the following as a UWP app, aka in no folder at all.
this is how start11 shows it.
After running 1.24 for a couple of weeks I can confirm that the performance issues are better, but still not fixed.
The taskbar is generally quite responsive and after a reboot, it's usually fine for a few hours. Then it seems to have periods where it will just completely freeze (mouse over animations stop working), and clicking on the buttons has about a 10-15 second delay between click and action. If you perform a bunch of actions (clicking on multiple windows in the taskbar) while it's frozen they will all happen at the same time after 10-15 seconds once it starts responding again. This was MUCH worse in previous Start11 versions and as I mentioned before, it got so bad I had to uninstall it for a while. I used to see this much more frequently and 60s+ delays, so it is better, but still not perfect.
Sometimes this will happen once and then be fine for a few more hours, other times it's over and over again. Restarting explorer seems to fix it sometimes, other times I have to reboot.

Since this is a performance-related report, relevant machine specs:Ryzen 3900X64GB RAMPCIe SSDsAlso monitor arrangement, in case that matters:1 - 3840x2160 (100% scaling)2 - 3840x2160 (150% scaling)3 - 3840x2160 (150% scaling, vertical/portrait mode)
Searching doesn't find results in certain situations.
For example:
I have TigerVNC and UltraVNC installed.
A search for VNC finds nothing.
A search for Tiger finds TigerVNC.
A search for Ultra finds UltraVNC.
However, on the native Windows 11 Start Menu, searching for VNC finds both TigerVNC and UltraVNC without issue.
I have the same issue with not being able to set Taskbar colour to black but have found a workaround which works for me. In the colour picker I chose black (but I think any colour will do) then set values for Red, Green and Blue = 1. Not exactly black but so close that it does not matter.
Hope this helps
I would ask you to add:- Additional StartMenu style known from Windows 98 (I'm very used to it using the Classic Shell app on Windows 10)- Possibility to set the Menu Style using the Windows command line, eg Start11.exe /s /style: Windows10- Polish language version
Which search style in Start11 are you using? Start11 or Start10 style?
It is possible you have your desktop wallpaper set to change every so often?
I ask as it is a known bug in Windows 11 (and 10) that when it changes the wallpaper it causes explorer to hang for periods (unrelated to S11)
