I would like to know when moderation for the GC4 Workshop will be up and running?
It didn't take long for one user to start taking others users ship design contributions and start pirating and re-upload them back to the GC4 Workshop under his own name without consent or permission of the original authors.
This has been going on for 7 years on the Steam workshop and thankfully with good moderators violations became fewer and fewer. I was really hoping it would not happen here on the GC4 Workshop.
I would also like to know what the rules for the GC4 Workshop will be and what the policy for violating workshop rules will be?
Any information in regard to GC4 workshop moderation is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Discord isn't my realm, but I'll reach out to the folks who handle that and find out.
Ron, only reason I brought up discord is becuse of it's live chat features. Also because GC4 already has a presence there. If you rather do this another way, like using Skype or Zoom, I myself have no problem with it. Let us know what way is best for you.
Rand.
I think you are right, Discord is the right place. SchismNavigator will be reaching out very soon to get that arm of all of this coordinated. We want to make this as simple as possible for everyone.
Please keep us posted. As I mentioned I am available any time between 10 am and 10 pm to attend the meeting.
I already posted on the discord servers but the sign-up form for moderators on discord (as well as in general) is up.
Please use the form even if you are already a volunteer moderator on the forums. It will help us identify who has the right skills we're looking for.

Luke,
I tried to reach out to you before I removed the mod and gave you a three day ban. I gave you two prior removal warnings plus sent you a message explaining the rules to which you replied to only after I gave you a three day ban. Reason you were banned is because you kept re-uploading the mod with the copy violations still intact regarding not just my player made content but still had Starmac's own player made content. The rule regarding asking for the original creators permission first to use their player made content has been posted here on the forum for almost a year. I also allowed you three days to comply before I gave you a 3 day ban.
I was only doing my job and doing what I am expected to do as a moderator as per guidelines. Please understand that the workshop guidelines here in the GC4 workshop are quite similar to same rules as Steam Workshop. You must contact and seek consent of the contents original creator an ask for their permission first. Its highly frowned upon to use others player made content without permission.
I apologize if this upset you but I did try to contact you and warn you, I did not threaten you. I only asked you to please not put me in the position where I would be forced to give you a ban for violation of GC4 Workshop terms of service only after I had issued the two prior warnings because I wasn't seeing any compliance from you before I issued the ban. Original player made ships and Civs uploaded to the GC4 Workshop are only for your personal use only and not be redistributed or copied and uploaded to the workshop under another players name without asking for consent and due credit given to the original creator, none of which you did.
I don't know if you are aware of this but many people who created player made content for GC4 are also some of the very same people who made original player made content for GC3. For 7 long years many creators had to deal with users using their work without their consent on Steam which is a violation of terms as stated in the Steam Subscriber Agreement. It was the consensus among those players who made content for GC4 to have similar rules to protect their work here for the GC4 Workshop. Its not very humorous to see someone else's name on something you created and got no credit for. Please again understand that what I did was not out of malice or anger but it is what I am supposed to do as a moderator. I hope you understand.
Thanks

Why do people here and over at Steam - think that
1) its ok to upload things they didn't create as if they had created it
2) no action will be taken
3) said action is "gatekeeping"
It is clearly the users responsibility to know the rules - we are all grown-ups - I think.
I'm sorry you feel that way but again the rules have up for nearly a year. I saw your Discord conversation and Discord was not the place to have this discussion. I am sorry you feel the situation wasn't handled the way you expected.
I did not accuse you of doing anything malicious. I have a responsibility as a moderator to enforce the rules and guidelines even if it was unintentional I still have the same responsibility regardless. This is a private matter and should be discussed here should other Stardock admin or moderators wish to join. Discord is for discussion related to the game, is it not for moderation issues and should be resolved here.
I do not wish to argue or be argued with.
Rand
Once again no one accused you of doing anything malicious. I only mentioned it so you're aware of why its a a part our GC4 workshop guidelines here as well. No one said you stole anything. You had three days to message me back prior to my having to issue a ban we could have discussed this here and resolved it. When I did not hear back and saw the violations still intact I did what I am supposed to do.
Guys, I don't think this public conversation is helping anyone at all.
Misunderstandings occur even with the best of intentions.
What's advisable going forward is that similar communications remain via Private Messages directly between affected parties.
If and/or when there is a resolution worthy of public record...then's the time to be public to benefit others.
Pringl2 ...I'm not physically in Stardock's Office but I've been around a 'little while' and dealt with similar situations more than a few times.
I can speak on behalf of Stardock and say no-one was meaning you harm. Your contributions and interaction are appreciated...
I just need to add...
Keeping communications of misunderstandings such as this restricted to private avenues of discussion is imperative as public perception is always going to be wrong. It's a fact of life.
I have recorded and removed subsequent comments simply because they reference private communications which by definition no longer means they are private.
Edit...
I cannot stress enough.
Anyone posting the contents of private communications in public can face permanent censure.
Simple solution: Kill off the Ship Designer. And the Civilization Designer.
Admittedly, I never use the Ship Designer (I did in GalCiv II but got bored with it and haven't in III or IV) and have spent less than half an hour ever on the Civilization Designer so it's not a concern for me if those are killed off but:
I think this was always going to be a risk - Person A spending literally hours creating a ship/fleet in the SD and putting it on the Steam Workshop and then Person B taking Person A's work and making just the slightest change (changing a colour very slightly, the length of a ship part, that kind of thing) and then reloading it to the Steam Workshop it as their work. Or maybe not even bothering to make those slightest changes before reloading it to the Steam Workshop as theirs...
Guess it's just a matter of time before this hits the CD...
Countdown Clock before GC4 Workshop Moderation thread begins getting posts about stolen/copied Civilizations starts now...
Hey everyone, I have contacted both parties involved and hope we can move on from here. If there are any further problems, please reach out to me individually instead of posting here in this thread.
Happy Monday!
I would like to request all my comments and replies to Pringl2 be removed from this thread since Pringl2 is no longer a forums member. There is no longer any need to leave them up, plus this one.
Thread should be returned to it proper forum before it was derailed.
Thanks.
