Thanks to all that participated.
The following option is missing in Start11 that existed in both Start10 and Start8:"Open submenus when I pause on them"
Note: It's missing from the GUI, but you can still disable with a registry edit (default is On, Off is 0. Yes the registry key is still called Start8 for Start11). Please put back in GUI.Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00; open submenus when I pause on them; This setting was removed from the Start11 GUI[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8]"AutoExpand"="0"
So glad to see the changes/fixes that I mentioned in here. Can't wait to get the seconds back on the clocks again. Thanks for adding this!
I've been using this for years and this is the first time I've ever had any issues. Here's what I'm experiencing with version 1.22 which I installed today:
Is there a way to revert to the previous version?
I might be missing it but where exactly is the setting for the show seconds on system clock? I already had the registry thing enabled and I don't see the option in the configuration to turn it on/off. It's also not showing any difference.
I believe it is only available to people using Windows 11 22H2 (the current Beta/DEV builds). It is not compatible with the current release build of Windows 11
It sounds like you may be experiencing crashes in explorer which is of concern.
If you look in the Windows event log are you seeing application errors for explorer.exe?

GDrive - Scarica
I checked the logs and there are no errors for explorer.exe. I did revert to v1.11 to see if the new version is causing all the issues I'm seeing and all the issues went away so there's something going on between my system configuration and v1.22.
The "align top" feature is not working even after explorer restart.
Request: add an option to get rid of the gap between taskbar and edge of the screen, to help hitting the icon by mousing over the edge
This update completely destroyed my install. I've tried uninstalling with removing settings and doing a reboot between uninstalling and reinstalling and it's still hosed.
What happens: after install, everything seems fine and works as expected.
Once I reboot, it looks like start11 didn't initialize properly: I have no start button, no clock, volume, etc. on the right. The system tray arrow is there and I can get to other icons in the system tray. The taskbar's windows are also correctly ungrouped and appear on the appropriate monitor.
When I open Start11's config via either the start menu or the taskbar itself, it says there is some other program managing the taskbar, despite it not having said that before my reboot.
Additionally, it looks like explorer is crashing on startup -- or so says Fences in a popup dialog box.
To note: when installing the update, I did not restart immediately, as I had a game I needed to exit gracefully first, but I rebooted <5 minutes after the update. Also, between uninstalling and reinstalling Start11, I did check the program folder and confirmed that it really did uninstall -- similarly, the settings really did get removed/reset between installations.
What version of Windows 11 are you using?
If Start11 is saying something else is managing the taskbar that typically means you have installed something or set a registry key to make Windows think it can use the Windows 10 taskbar on Windows 11 (which I would not recommend). The alternative could be that Windows explorer has somehow not started up correctly as it wouldn't be able to detect it correctly then. Given the lack of some parts of the taskbar that could be the case here.
Step 1 would be to set Start11 to not enhance the taskbar and then click the restart explorer button, does this allow the taskbar to look normal?
If not then does it work ok if you uninstall Start11 and reboot?
I'm using Windows 11 Pro Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000
I have absolutely not installed any other software to manage the taskbar and have not touched my system registry. I had no problems with the previous version of Start11 and hadn't changed any of its settings in a week or so.
I cannot set Start11 not to enhance the taskbar, since it thinks something else is enhancing it. The only way to get it to work is to kill explorer via the Task Manager and then run explorer.exe.
If Start11 is uninstalled, the taskbar successfully returns to the normal Windows 11 one, including after a couple reboots
The only clue I have as to what's going on is that in the start menu, there is the normal "Start11" shortcut and a second "Stardock Start11" shortcut with no icon (shows the default for a missing icon) and if I click on it, a window shows for a split-second and then goes away (there is no content in the window, just the frame). This erroneous icon was not there before the update, and it shows back up upon reinstallation.
My guess is that somehow the update didn't remove/unregister the previous version and now it's taking ownership of the task bar and crashing on startup since the supporting installation files have changed with the update.
Also, when I reboot, there are two instances of the Start11_64.exe in the Task Manager. I checked the startup apps setting and didn't see Start11 listed at all, and there is only one entry for the service in Task Manager and in services.msc
Are you able to check the Windows eventlog to see if there are application crashes listed for explorer.exe?
Oh that would explain that then. I dont remember seeing that in the changelog but I might have just missed it. I'm on Release Preview right now as it's also my work OS and I don't want to have any unexpected instabilities. But nice to know it'll be available when the next major Win11 update is out for everyone.
I have updated to the latest version,
But now the unmatched icons in the start bar no longer work
I also wanted to know if the possibility of putting the central start with the possibility of not combining icons had been introduced.
What do you mean by unmatched icons in the start bar?
The possibility of putting start in the middle when not combining has not been added.
I posted this in the 1.22 beta thread but was ignored.
The taskbar is offsetting itself from the top of the screen on my primary monitor only. More annoyingly, once it does this, it often won't autohide, although the main icons disappear, the rest of the taskbar stays, obscuring anything that might be fullscreen.
Retail Win11 Pro, (22000.613) no insider/preview builds, patched and up to date. My taskbars are top aligned, two monitors, 2560x1440 and 1920x1080, both landscape with 100% scaling. Have tried the purge script, reboot, deleted folders from Program Files (x86) and Programdata, reinstall, issue keeps recurring.
Silly question: I'm running Start 11 on both a W10 and W11 PC. Should I have the same "manage the taskbar" options (with ungrouping, etc) in W10 that I do in W11? I'm running the same version (1.22) and just wanted to make sure nothing went awry during the transition from beta to stable on the W10 side.
No, the ungrouping feature is not available on Windows 10.

Gotcha. Thanks for confirming. Loving the product. Renewing my Object Desktop sub was money well spent.

Uncombined icons in the start bar are no longer activated:
This:
Can you add the ability to insert a link folder? like you did with other windows, that would be great.
It would be nice to be able to change the color of the time font in the Windows bar as well, with transparency and a dark background the time and date are practically not seen, it would be nice to be able to choose the color.
