I just purchased the GC4 early access and tried to start a new game but couldn't because there was no button to continue the new game process after you select your race/civilization.
I was just about to refund my 33€ I paid Epic because a company that can't even not screw up the new game process doesn't inspires me pay for their content, when there are so many other option out there. I had a huge good will with Starduck from their GC2 reputation, and from playing GC3 on Epic, so I was inspired to pay for GC4 even though it's a risk (early access). And this screw up made me totally rethink that.
Thankfully I found out after 5 minutes of looking at the screen and trying random stuff that some enlighten GUI developer decided that every new game must pass by a civilization customization process accessed by a customize button. I don't know who does GUI QA on your product, but you guys need to review your process if this passed.
I started a new game, I don't want to customize my race. I selected my race, I want to proceed. I want to press a button that says "NEXT" not do some customization. I don't mind that I'm forced to go through the race customization screen, what you don't do is name the NEXT button as something that is in most games an optional feature "race customization". Just replace the "Customize" text in the button with the words "NEXT" as is standard in this type of games.
Since I'm not that good in English, I pasted a picture of the location of the text to replace bellow:
yeah, you've got a good point there. i think that this might be one of those things that a lot of us regular players take for granted, knowing that it's always the bottom right button that's the next button. there should def be a (NEXT) or something on each bottom right button with the other text
That is a pretty good point. I was also a bit confused first time I started a new game, wondering "ok where is the start/next button?" So kinda like Basilisk83 said, I just picked the button where "next" would usually be located.
One of those things I forgot all about mentioning because I just didn't pay attention to it like a brand new user would.
Happy Holiday Weekend !
Yeah. The button should really be "Next". "Customize" makes it seem like you making a custom civ or something. Considering that is another button that makes custom civs, I think it adds to the confusion.
Just a head’s up that in 1.0 this was changed to next.
As a self confessed idiot who also got confused with this, yay!
Thats only because you’re from England!
