If I were to make a graph of the amount of time I spent on Twitter, it would have started at the founding of that service, peeked in 2015, gradually declined until 2019 and then plumuted.
As NASDAQ noted, Twitter isn't really profitable. And how can it be? How can you base your business on something that might suspend your account based on the opinions of its far, far left employees?
Satire site, Babylon Bee, was recently banned for making a satirical post about public figure, Rachel Levine, the trasngender assistant secretary of health. Making death threats against conservatives is rarely punished. President Trump's Twitter account is gone while Kathy Griffin, who famously called for violence against President Trump remains.
How can anyone seriously look at Twitter as a viable platform when the rules are always in motion and enforced so capriciously?
It's only a matter of time before Twitter is gone. And I suspect the world will be better for it.
Yes, you have to accept these Forums are privately owned. They're not mine. I can say, however that I can recall moving posts in the past, even ones by Frogboy, as he both owns the forums and writes the rules too...
Politics isn't 'shut down' it's moved to where it is expected there will be contentious 'argument'.
The underlying 'need' is to keep the general Forum sections fundamentally civil...
The funny thing about American culture is that our worst curse are actually names of presidents. I believe the only president that doesn't cause someones blood to boil is George Washington. All other presidents are not safe to say by name.
Quite. When you have an 'oppositional' political system...ie 2 parties [we do too] it's all about "those other guys are bastards" and it all ends in tears...
Right. The proof of decline for a current business model of Twitter Inc. would be either: number of active users go down, or advertisers willing to pay less (monetization per user go down) or leaving the platform at all.
Which, at least from my point of view, is unclear, also considering that the companies will usually try hide such trends if they actually take place. However might be true still.
I mean, sorry for the previous longread, etc. and likely the message of the Brad's post was different, but I've honestly tried to form a coherent, albeit simplified view of the economic side.
Can't remember anyone going postal over John Adams or his son, John Quincy.
Not sure where you read that in my comment, elvee. I've never thought nor stated "the ones making the rules are always right".
However, this is in fact Brad's company's website. That gives him the right to write the rules regarding intractions here, and you know that. You agreed to the TOU when you made an account here.
It doesn't mean he, or I think he's always right, and everyone is free to discuss that with him, politely.
This isn't about Trump.
The issue with Twitter is that its rules are applied capriciously just like you'd expect on a privately owned forum. Which makes it no better than a forum (as opposed to the universal messaging system that was its original mission).
For instance, Twitter Suspends The Babylon Bee | The Babylon Bee is a better example of the rules being applied seemingly capriciously.
I think Dave Chappelle nailed cancel culture with this clip (warning some language)

Twitter Inc
Today's Marketcap 40.01 billion
And in comes Elon Musk who just became twitters new majority shareholder. It looks like he wants to see more free speech as well. Hopefully his stake can make changes for the better.
If I understand correctly, Musk's stake is passive, comes with no influence or decision-making power. Influence it, he will, however, even if indirectly.
Check that - he's just been appointed to the Board. This should be quite interesting. Buckle up.
It is one of those things that might just be crazy enough to work. It is hard to say how an eccentric billionaire will shape social standards for twitter. But I am sure a dialogue about freedom of speech is somewhere in his plans. Frankly, I feel we can use it.
This has prompted me to sign back up with Twitter. The heck with the rest of Social Media places, Twitter is what I used on a daily basis for information that I followed.
My beef with Social Media Was Not or IS about any person. place or thing. It is about being Equal across the board.
Private, public, makes no difference to me. Many folks are returning to Twitter after the News of Elon on the hope of a better, centered platform.
Looks like I wasn't the only one disgusted with the banning of Babylon Bee. Except, of course, Elon Musk has the money to actually do something tangible.
You can't be serious. I'm wasting my time here.
Yes. Yes you are. The January 6th "hostages" are winning their court cases as there is video evidence of the capital police waving them in and escorting them where to go. Keep living in that deranged liberal fantasy land of yours. They can't make any charges stick against Trump, if they could he would have been charged a long time ago. Oh and look at that Hillary Clinton found GUILTY and fined for using the DNC to pay for the Russian hoax. Good thing Will Smith bitch slapped Chris Rock into next week to keep people like you distracted and sleeping at the wheel.
Dude, you need to get a life: https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/may/18/facebook-posts/clip-capitol-police-speaking-rioters-doesnt-prove-/
Frogboy mentioned the Babylon Bee in this post so I went there
for the first time to check it out and they is it funny.
Politifact is part of the leftist MSM communist propaganda machine and nothing it claims is remotely "factual."
"...The issue with Twitter is that its rules are applied capriciously just like you'd expect on a privately owned forum..." while Twitter, at the same time, falsely claimed to be a neutral platform "where everyone has a voice" to the point where it became the modern equivalent of the public square, and then intentionally and maliciously committed censorship to further the leftist tyrannical communist ideology.
With market share based on publicly professed promises ("a neutral platform where everyone has a voice") comes a commitment to honor those promises. Twitter has intentionally failed to do that, and needs to be held accountable for breach of contract by having failed to honor its promises.
Why would Elon Musk reverse his decision to join the board. Is he planning a hostile takeover or did he figure that twitter is too damaged to fix?
Well now just calm down. Let's relive a blast from the past! Talk about a propaganda machine! I've got one for you!

Please note this is not a Politics forum. The topic is Twitter and its demise.
Please leave the US Conservative/Democrat debate to the correct Forum section.

As requested by Frogboy and Jafo, I've responded to this at https://forums.joeuser.com/511564/the-decline-of-twitter-politifact-part-of-the-leftist-msm-propaganda-machin
