Start11 V1.2 BETA
Issue:
Should be like this:
EDIT:
Mainly happening after ALT-TAB from fullscreen to other app.
Here's a funny one, working on my laptop, closed lid so it went to sleep. Plugged into my external display and opened lid and for some reason the Taskbar appears on the top of my primary display. It is set to display at the bottom of all displays.
Tried to reproduce there and it didn't. Screenshot attached with any info blurred out.
Resolved in the next build. Should not be long before it is available.

I would expect to be able to, yes, as I can reorder my icons on the Windows taskbar without needing to unlock it every time.
Hey guys .. an FYI for anyone on Windows 11 Dev/Preview build 22581that was just released:
The ONLY setting for the 'Start 11' task bar [both Beta and release versions] that's working is the left/center alignment of the icons. Also, using a custom start button icon makes the whole time/date section of the taskbar disappear completely.
So far, the other options for 'Start' seem to be ok [and Fences is also ok so far] ..
I'm bothered that Microsoft rev'ed the beta channel to the same version of the Dev channel. (I understand why they did it, but there are a number of features in the Dev channel that are badly broken and now present in the Beta channel.)
Boo!!!
I would suggest that Stardock focus only on development for the shipping version of Windows and not the Dev or Beta. They'll be chasing their tails otherwise for things that may not need to be fixed and may compromise a great product. This comes from someone who has been on the Windows Insider program from day one. I have pulled Start 11 for now because I see that my issues are more than likely caused by my Windows version and not Start 11. I'll keep monitoring this site and may reinstall from time to time to see what's new.
I believe this is actually the first beta channel release since Windows 11 first came out. I have been on the Beta channel for a while and none of the stuff that was entering the DEV channel was coming anywhere near the Beta channel. Microsoft must have felt that the sun valley 2 build was complete and moved it into Beta testing to squash bugs. Interestingly, Microsoft is stating that May is the date they are targeting for when this release exits Beta and officially becomes Windows 11's big annual update.
As for the DEV channel, a whole new build will be entering that soon. It is supposed to become a sandbox channel where Microsoft is going to start experimenting for next years big release. I think it will only be once per year where you see the DEV channel and Beta channel having the same build.
The right hand end of the taskbar shouldn't be an issue if you are using 1.16 or later. Also the taskbar enhancements like ungrouping should work fine.
It is known the colour / transparency / texture will not work as intended but thats the risk of using beta OSes I am afraid.
All,
I am about to push 1.17. This post is to mark where feedback for it should start.
Thanks for all the feedback thus far.
I share your frustration on this.
After Win 11 beta update 22581.1 icons in the systray no longer move
I just installed 1.17 on my desktop. Really nice work, I'm looking forward to trying it on my Surface Pro 7 later. I just wanted to ask, I noticed that when the taskbar is on the top of the screen, the quick settings are clipped off. Is that something that is still being worked on. I think the patch notes says it was fixed for non English installs. I'm using an en-US install so could that be why?
What do you mean by this?
It is known that the taskbar in that version of Windows will not let you drag icons from the overflow icons back to the taskbar but thats a Microsoft issue that happens without Start11.
Thats curious as it shouldn't happen.
Was it a clean install of 1.17 or an install over another version? If the later can you uninstall, reboot and then reinstall to rule out files not being replaced correctly.

That was installed over 1.16. I can certainly try a fresh install. Is there any registry or appdata cleanup I need to do or just simply uninstall, reboot, reinstall.
Just to follow up, I did exactly as you said. I uninstalled, I also checked the box to remove settings. I then rebooted and reinstalled. I then activated the software again, moved the taskbar to the top and the quick settings were still cut off. Is there a cleanup script I should maybe run?
How tall is your taskbar?
It shouldn't need any other cleanup so perhaps there is something else we missed.
Also what version number of Windows 11 are you using?
1.16 was supposed to be 1.2 and now we have 1.17 ? 🤔
1.16 was the first beta of what will be 1.2, 1.17 is the second beta.

I've had this happen with both small and medium sizes. I'm running the public release 22000.556.

I was talking about the system icons on the right in the taskbar, before I could move them between them at will
So is the beta only available for w11? When I open OD it shows the Beta overlay on start11 but only shows "Configure" however I have 1.15 installed. This is on w10 btw. Side note I still can't seem to update OD from 4.01 am i missing something?
I am afraid thats a bug in the version of Windows you are using I think. Will happen without Start11 too. You would need to file a bug with Microsoft using their feedback tool.
No the beta is available for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
You can download the installer from your store account if ODM isn't updating correctly.
