This was the subject of a reply of mine to Tatiora's October post on Windows 11 Updates that I think merits a separate thread.
I've been advised by my tech support company to not install Windows 11 under any circumstances. A major reason for that is that I (and my office network) deal with protected health information and Windows 11 is not only not HIPAA compliant but opens your computer to all kinds of background third party access. MS has decided to go the way of Facebook and make you the product which they will sell as the primary method of sustaining their business. The 'upgrade' may be free but orders of magnitude more intrusive, mostly silently of course (the fine print applies when you click Agree).
Windows 11, per my tech, also is a major step toward forcing all your application purchases and subscriptions into the Microsoft Store, a la Apple. They are steadily making it harder & harder to install anything from outside their controlled ecosystem. They actually trialed this approach with a version of Windows 10 called Windows 10S. I learned of this when we purchased a Surface which turned out to have that OS for a dedicated purpose servicing a biometric device early this year. Initially I thought the "S" meant a version specific to the Surface but it turns out the "S" means Store, as in Microsoft Store. Our tech had to force an install of a regular version of Windows 10 before the software for the biometric device could be installed (it obviously wasn't available on the Microsoft Store). There were also incompatible drivers for things like our network printers & Bluetooth devices. The latter issues are probably cleaned up a bit in Windows 11, but beware.
A good example of where this will likely lead is the recent behavior of Adobe regarding Adobe Acrobat Reader DC which is the subject of another post here. They already have the ability to reach into your computer uninvited and steal paid-for software from you.

All my Win11 machines have the github mod which allows you to install without the TPM Module, it is a small reg fix but has also been included in OSs released by some groups.
This is not the MS work around that warns you it may not update, this was out before MS did a part u turn allowing some machines to install it. None of my machines were considered useable by MS , and these are like a lot of ours that just missed the requirements by a whisker, good solid powerful machines, so i thought go for it. Idiot Gods would not listen so thought i would do it anyway and all my machines have updated fine.
I leave (Win11 Start and Taskbar) as is, I don't use Start11, the only Stardock product on my laptop is Fences. I'm going to wait for WB11, to use Start11, and I'm fine with that, like I said, I like Win11 right out of the box. I do like the add on, and upgrades with this latest update on Win11, and that's funny, cause I'm running it on an unsupported hardware machine, I suppose there will be a time, when my laptop won't receive any major updates.
don, when did you install your Win 11, was it when MS did a u turn or earlier.
My main PC is also missing the TPM and my laptop has an unsupported (at least yet) CPU but I'm sure Windows 11 would run just fine on both, since I have no issues with Widows 10, but I'm not upgrading until Windowblinds 11 is out. I do like the look of Windows 11 out of the box like quite a few users though, so the longer it takes for Stardock to make a working version, the more users will maybe no longer care about it when it's finally out.
Jan, one of my Laptops is an early I7 with no TPM Module and it runs Win 11 fine , no issues, so i am sure yours will run it just fine. As we have always known , MS acts others Re Act, i am not the most Green of persons in the world(i do try) and hate the fact MS would allow those who do not re act, to bin or replace machines that are good , fast and powerful.
Did anyone see how much the price of TPM Modules shot up to the day after MS launched Win11, the price was X 10 of what they are worth.
It has always been a worry about the time frame of WB11, i think you are bang on the money Jan, but hope you are wrong, it may take a big Advertisement campaign to bring back some peeps.
One thing I hope that MS will add/improve to Win11; is the file folders showing the contents like on Win10 and previous versions.
This is done. The latest DEV preview has implemented this and it does look really good.
I played around with the latest build because I was curious of the new features. If this was android or Apple then the latest DEV build would be a whole new OS aka windows 12. Lots of new features are coming. It is possible this is Microsoft's intention (big releases every year) as they want people to be excited about pcs again the way people currently are with smart phones.
There are a lot of bugs still present in the DEV build so I would wait until this build makes its way to at least Beta. It is Microsofts big release for the year and will likely hit beta next month
Microsoft is doing a really good job with Github. Usually, I worry when big companies acquire small companies like this. But it is a testament with programs like TPM module and explorerpatcher that Microsoft isn't tampering with the ambitious young coders you find on that platform.
It's not the module that can be a problem [or not] it's the lack of UEFI Bios.

Issue was back when I was redoing Terry's machine...and that wouldn't accept 11 without hoops...but is finally happily running 10 after years of failed updating...
Since MS owns Github, and allows those versions of W11, one has to ask the reason. I suspect it's just another way to market W11. Since MS has now started using machine learning in its updating process, it wouldn't surprise me that one day those W11 editions will not be updatable/patchable and the users will be on their way to buy MS approved machines.

you have recognized it i agree 100% to, windows 11 and startallback can become reason for many user,
which i also regret somewhat as a longtime stardock customer
Can not say what the future will bring Dr , all i know is it works on all my machines that failed the compatibility checks for install and so far they have updated every update it was supposed too. I am sure i have read somewhere , due to the way some groups have put the Mod into the OS, to only use Rufus 1.5 and lower to install and bypass UEFI Bios, please do not quote me as i am not sure but will try and check.
Never knew MS owned GitHub, with so much useful toys, and there are loads of Warez stuff on GitHub too like the L3 Widevine Decrypter for Ripping content from Netflix , Amazon etc.. MS either turn a blind eye or do not care, loads more stuff there too which would be considered Warez, or allows through some of there files do warez things.
Have you tried the combination of ExplorerPatcher + Start 11? it is a popular combo here. Explorerpatcher brings the same taskbar as startisback, and start 11 brings the better start menu.
I, myself, really like the never combine tabs in the taskbar and that is the main reason I use explorerpatcher. I do agree with other peoples opinion that Windows 11 looks really good and I even prefer the look of Windows 11 taskbar. I just do not like the functionality. Start 11 version 1.2 should bring an even better taskbar once it is released.

People actually use the programs startisback and explorerpatcher only because they want never combined tabs on Windows 11. That was both programs main draw early on. As a bonus, explorerpatcher also got Windowblinds 10 working on Windows 11.
As far as skinning goes, start 10 / 11 are the tools for WindowBlinds. A different skinning program uxthemepatcher uses startisback exclusively as their tool for Windows 11. A very different approach then stardock and if you read the conversation between myself and Jafo in the windowblinds 11 planning thread it makes sense not to rely on another third party software for your own third party software.
Honestly, I do not like startisback that much as it is showing its age. Once start 11 version 1.2 comes out I think everyone will forget its existence
I think they have to walk a tight rope. They purchased a company that wasn't always pro Microsoft to begin with. If they take down too much content too fast people will bolt from using Github and go to the competition.

I do not think true windows 11 skinning is available anywhere yet. I do not see windows 11 start menu being skinned, I do not see the command bar being skinned. Right now to skin in Windows 11 things are being turned back to Windows 10 too much. I do not think that is what a lot of Windows 11 users want. They want to see more of Windows 11 while skinning Windows 11. Most people are enjoying the changes made from Windows 10 to Windows 11. That is why there is excitement for Windowblinds 11
MS acquired Github in 2018 for $7.5 billion in stock. As I said, I think the W11 there is more a marketing thing than anything else...to ensure the next computer has W11 on it.

you should read everything before you post pointlessly, my post referred to a discussion of a contribution by me further up it was about my statement so I can probably post something about it as we have already established it. seems to be here with the tolerance is not far and some seem to think they would have eaten the wisdom with spoons.
How dumb,
1. A good thing I have Home edition.
2. The wording seems ambiguous, does this mean you have to have an account to set up. But afterwards can still turn off and un-hook the live account once setup is complete or does it always have to be signed in?

The 'dots' indicate access levels from 'Citizen' to 'Master'. They correspond to promotions attained though time/experience/contribution to the world of Skinning in general and Wincustomize in particular.
Levels are ...
1:- Citizen
2:- Apprentice
3:- Master Apprentice
4:- Journeyman
5:- Master.
Levels 4 and 5 have direct access to upload works to the galleries without need for Moderation, and Level 5 have the opportunity to submit commercial works [be paid].
On that note it's probably timely to review promotions again...
