We are creating this thread should any community members wish to post translations for languages or updates to ones that already exist.
The Languages that Stardock supports and will update:
English
German
Spanish
French
Korean
Russian
Portuguese - Brazil
Chinese (Simplified)
Chinese (Traditional)
All other languages will not be directly supported by Stardock nor will they be included in any install.
Where are language files stored?
For Stardock applications that support language edits, there will be a 'lang' directory in the application installation folder. For example, Start11s would be:
\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start11\lang
An app that does not support language edits would not have that directory (Fences would be an example of one that does not).
The .lng files listed there are human-readable text files - easily edited in notepad for example.
How are language files formatted?
The format would be:
'English text'='translated text'
English (en) file example:
"Which theme do you want to use?"="Which theme do you want to use?"
Spanish (es) file example:
"Which theme do you want to use?"="¿Qué tema quieres usar?"
For prime languages that have variations, Chinese (Traditional \ Simplified) or Portugues (Brazil) for example, the following line needs to exist:
Exist=1Example:
If you wanted to add a notation to a line, to describe a reason for some translation perhaps, you can use the semicolon as an escape character.
Example:
;Changed from;"Which style of start menu would you prefer?"="选择「开始」菜单样式:";To"Which style of start menu would you prefer?"="选择「开始"
Note: The English file included with the installer should have the most recent phrases for everything in the UI. If the phrase does not exist in the currently supported alternant language, adding it, with its translation, would be required.
Submitting languages
The following post would be an example of what would be acceptable to have it be considered for inclusion.
Line number (Notepad++ has them for example):Old Text:New text:Shared link to lng file: <link>
One should be sure that the text fits in the UI, for example, this would be unacceptable:
We will monitor this thread for submissions and evaluate any of the Stardock supported languages for inclusion in an official update \ installer.
We will do the same for any unsupported languages, and update this thread with them, but they will not be included in any official installation file.
Clients that do summit translations for the aforementioned Stardock supported languages, and they are accepted into an install, will likely be compensated with non-monetary items - for example, new or extensions to Object Desktop subscriptions.
We appreciate any effort members put into this.

I'm busy now with the dutch translation.
can i just change the en.lng to dutch.lng?and is this the correct way to submit the translation?
[Strings]
"Stardock Start11 Configuration"="Stardock Start11 Configuratie"
"Start Menu"="Start Menu"
"Start Button"="Start knop"
If so, i will continue and submit the language file.
hoping to hear from you.
Hi
I have taken over the rights over the language file and changed some words to swedish just to see if it works. It did not.
So when you say that it is easily changed with notepad, that seems to me to be untrue. But, please explain how to go about it!
I have the latest Start11 as of todays download.
Ok, i`ve got it now but, some things do not change after translation but some do. Bug?
For example?
I prepared translation for Slovenian language. English "template" (en.lng) does not contain all resources, so few words and sentences stay untranslated. I add this words and sentences manualy in "sl.lng" file. You could find it at the end of my translated file under "moji dodatki za verzijo 0.93" (my adds for version 0.93) and under "moji dodatki za verzijo 0.94" (my adds for version 0.94).
Despite of that some words or sentences remain in English language:
- Pin to taskbar (right click on file in start menu)
- Unpin from task bar (i couldn't find where it is located)
- Advanced (start11 setting -> windows 10 style -> setting)
- Settings (start11 setting -> windows 10 style -> settings -> under shortcuts list) - this could be translate manualy, just rename "Settings" with "Rename" button into your language
- Modern UI Applications (windows 8 style or modern UI style - klick start menu -> at the right side there is shortcut to documents, pictures... and also to "Modern UI Applications")
- Your copy of Start11 is up to date (start1 settings -> about -> click "Check..." -> new window appear with this message); and also "OK" button on this window
If i will find some more untranslated words, i will let you know.
Just let me know how to attach file in this post.
Well, i solved it but, i have more or less the same problem as Mojster, reply #8, But for me the - Pin to taskbar, for example, is fully missing. This i am sure of. Gone thru the text 7-8 times now, nothing.
There is more missing.
Using - en.Ing, as a base.
To pchb1, reply #9:
Yes, few words are not present in en.lng file. You could add them manually and translate them. But some words are not translated even you add them manually.
Pin to taskbar etc are not in the language file as they are OS provided translations.
As long as your OS display language is set correctly you should get translated text for those.
I'm not sure. "Pin to taskbar" in native Windows 11 Start menu is translated in my language but is still present in Start11 menu.
"Pin to taskbar" in my language means "Pripni v opravilno vrstico". You could see is in attached pictures.
Native Windows11 Start menu (Start11 is disabled):
Start11 Start menu (Start11 is enabled with Windows 10 menu style:
.
As mentioned before, Pin to taskbar does not even exist in the en.Ing file.
Besides, my Os is swedish and i get Pin to taskbar in english whatever i do. Including trying to add that line myself. And then there are other missing items, "click here to name group" - is also absent.
It works. Just put it at the end of your "lng" file. I tested it and it works.
"Click here to name group"="your language"
It works. Just put it at the end of your "lng" file. I tested it and it works."Click here to name group"="your language"
So it did, thanks.
Pity it does not work for - Pin to taskbar, also. That is still a problem as mentioned earlier in the thread.
Add these new lines to Spanish language:
;10/30/2021
"Reset"="Reset"
"Pick texture colour..."="Elegir color de textura"
"Use automatic accent colour for texture colour"="Usar color automático de acento como color de textura"
"Use automatic menu colour for texture colour"="Usar color automático de menú como color de textura"
"Reset to no texture recolouring"="Sin color de textura"
"Stretch to show entire texture"="Estirar textura"
"Remove from this list"="Eliminar de esta lista"
"Pin to Start menu"="Fijar al menú de Inicio"
"Unpin from Start menu"="Eliminar del menú de Inicio"
Here is a fully translated Swedish language file for Start11 https://www.rj-texted.se/downloads/swedish-start11.zip
Any help in improving the translation is appreciated. Some menu items are not translated even when the text string is added to the language file (as mentioned above).
I upgraded Start11 to version 0.96. Some untranslatable phrases are now translated, but some still remain in English language:- Windows 7 style -> Modern UI applications
- Windows 7 style -> right click to application -> "Pin to Start menu (Start11)"
- Windows 7 style -> right clikc to user's name -> "Show this folder on the desktop" (maybe this is related to operating system)
- Settings for Start11 -> about Start11 -> Check for update -> untranslated text in message box
Installed Start11 v0.96.
I found a few items in the Windows 7 and in the Modern style menu that are not translated.
Modern UI applications, Computer and Settings. The corresponding shortcuts in settings are not translated either.
I also found a string in Start11 settings.
"Customize menu visual appearance" is not translated.
Here is a translated Japanese language file for Start11

Any support in improving the translation is appreciated.
I've uploaded a revised version of the Swedish language file for Start11 https://www.rj-texted.se/downloads/swedish-start11.zip with some minor improvements.
Besides the - Pin to taskbar - that is not translated either even in your good translation that you uploaded.
Thanks,
I think, "Pin to taskbar" is translated properly in Start11 v0.96. Please re-check and let me know if I've missed something. I've tested using Windows 10 and Windows 11 menus.
"Pin to Start menu (Start11)" is not translated properly in the Windows 7 and Modern menus. I'll try to check everything later today and upload a final Swedish translation, and make sure all strings are included. Even the once not currently translated.
I hope Startdock release another RC build before version 1.0, so we can check all strings in the language files.
It is not your fault, thats how the program is, right now. Read the thread and you will understand. I am also working on a swedish translation and the Pin to item does not even exist as a possibility to translate.
So the base, the english file is, flawed at the moment.
Hopefully it will be corrected since Stardock now is aware of it due to this thread.
