Hello, I just ordered the Object Desktop subscription and I was wondering if someone could clarify a few things that weren't explained very well. Firstly, when the subscription finally expires, will the applications that I have already installed stop functioning? Also, will the license cease to work if I say, decide that I need to reinstall the operating system at a later date? I'm asking because it isn't very clear how this all works in regards to the licensing. There is also some contradictory information floating around the forum, most of which is out of date by several years.
My second question is, will Fences 4 remain an Object Desktop only application after it comes out of alpha, or will it eventually be offered for sale like the other applications? I'm asking because its really the only reason that I purchased the Object Desktop subscription. I was prepared to purchase Start10, Start11, Groupy, DeskScape, Fences 3, and Fences 4 before I noticed that Fences 4 wasn't offered outside of the subscription. I'm just curious because I prefer to purchase my licenses instead of subscribing to subscription services.
My third question is, when you purchase an application outside of the Object Desktop subscription, does that application also receive updates? It wasn't exactly clear if updates were a Object Desktop only feature. I would assume that they do so long as its within the same product line, correct? Start10 version 1.0 to Start10 version 2.0 but not to Start11, etc...
And lastly, assuming that the expiration of the subscription does void the license, and that the applications deactivate, at what times of the year do Stardock products go on sale? I remember seeing them on sale several years back but I can not recall when it was...I take that back, one final question. Assuming that the above is correct and I decide to purchase the products before the subscription expires, how easy is it to simply switch the licenses over? Would I just deregister the product and then reregister with the new license?
Thanks
Hello,
Please refer to this for your first question :
Second question, I believe, Fences 4 will be available for others to purchase when it come out from Beta Stage, as a stand alone product like other Stardock Products.
Third question, Stand alone product will get free updates. But, you will need to pay for new license for new upgrade. For example, if you purchase Fences 3, it will get all free updates for all Fences 3.XX updates. But When Fences 4 come up, you will need to pay for its new license.
Last question, Sub expired, your license key will still work for product version you own while your sub still valid. For example for Fences, if you purchase now, You will get Fences V3.13 this key will be valid forever for Fences V3.X.
Last last question, not sure what you mean by license switching? Please elaborate.
Thank you,

Sorry that I didn't explain it very well. What I basically meant was that if I let the subscription lapse, and if the subscription lapse meant that the applications deregistered, how easy would it be to switch over to a new license before that took place.
It appears that they will remain functional however, so that won't be an issue. I was mainly concerned about forgetting which day the subscription would expire, then being unable to use the features that I've become accustom with. Nothing is more annoying than having an application stop working in the middle of a task.
Now that I know it won't happen, some of the pressure is off. I still have plans on repurchasing the applications once Fences 4 is released. I like the idea of having extra copies around for virtualization, or for whenever I get around to upgrading the other computers in my home.
Thank you for the helpful reply.
