Me and my brother have been having issues with multiplayer. We have played multiple sessions in huge galaxy map fine. Then one day it started crashing while I was loading into the lobby. It doesn't make a difference who hosts the game will always crash when one of us joins the lobby.
We tried going back to an older save that we had and it worked, after that session we saved it again and when we started it back up it crashed again in exactly the same way, no matter who hosts it always crashes while trying to load in.
The save works fine if I start it myself without anyone joining the lobby. Its only the one who tries to join that crashes.
The reason I can understand your frustration is that I share it. Believe me, if I could wave a wand and resources would appear, I would (I would also give myself more hair but that is another matter).
That actually is what I was hoping for - deduction from reduction.
Thank you VERY much sir - whatever you can share, with whatever time you can spare, would be well received and greatly appreciated.

And here we are now, deleting posts that make the company uncomfortable. Might as well close this thread.
Posts are deleted for a variety of reasons - in this case, if it does not directly contribute to solving the problem at hand.
We have no issues discussing Stardock's dirty laundry publicly (we welcome it to be clear); as long as the focus is on the laundry and less so about how dirty it is or how long it has been so.

Hey Guys,
I don't want to reheat the upper discussions but is there any solution, yet?
Me and a friend of mine encountered the same issue. He opens a lobby with our savegame and as soon as I'm trying to enter my game crashes. It doesn't matter if he invites me or if I try to join over the serverlist. Same result. I also tried to load the savegame and start the lobby, then his game crashes.
Regarding Bonus Content we were using the Map Pack, the Mega Events and the Crusade Expansion.
Thanks in advance for your support.
Multiplayer worked with the Expansions installed and none of the smaller dlc. We did use some custom content and it seemed to work - my friend could join when I loaded the save.
Will do further tests to see if custom races and such are a factor in the issue, but the tests we did seem to indicate that the expansions on their own work.
EDIT: should note that the expansions we are using are: Crusade, Intrigue, and Retribution
Good to know and thank you for the update.
Hi again,
So it didn't work and the game still stopped working but at a much later turn, around 170 I think.
I think it has something to do with custom ships, we started with fresh saves but we saved a lot of new designs in our playthrough and I think this probably was part of the issue as I've seen this to be a factor in a lot of instability in this game.
We tried one person to go into the save and delete most of the custom ships they had designed. Did not help in the slightest and the game crashed upon the other player joining the lobby. Its now been over a year since this ticket was opened and still nothing.
sdRohan, any update or progress on the multiplayer issue?
Perhaps a total rework of the entire multiplayer codebase if necessary? Too bad you guys can't poach some devs from, say, World Of Tanks or Instant War - those organizations have got multiplayer down cold; so maybe hire/poach someone who has extensive experience with massive multiplayer coding.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'd gladly buy a DLC that not only fixed multiplayer, but expanded it so that 3 or more teams of 3 players each could engage in a multisided contest (perhaps with special digital assets or civilization enhancements as prizes.) For example, multiplayers could rack up points, and once they have accumulated a specific quantity of points, can trade it in to obtain a civ enhancement - such as the ability to choose a 3rd ability for a civ of their choosing; etc.
In other words, there is a huge opportunity here provided you can fix and enhance multiplayer. Since GalCiv 3 plays much different than GalCiv 4, there is no fundamental reason why development for GalCiv 3 couldn't continue. There is lot's of life left for GalCiv 3 -more expansions, DLCs, the works.
This thread is pretty old, BookSiberia, so I would need more information to assist.
It would seem prudent to start your own thread and fortify it with as much information as possible (Win\Game version, map size, player counts, etc).
