Me and my brother have been having issues with multiplayer. We have played multiple sessions in huge galaxy map fine. Then one day it started crashing while I was loading into the lobby. It doesn't make a difference who hosts the game will always crash when one of us joins the lobby.
We tried going back to an older save that we had and it worked, after that session we saved it again and when we started it back up it crashed again in exactly the same way, no matter who hosts it always crashes while trying to load in.
The save works fine if I start it myself without anyone joining the lobby. Its only the one who tries to join that crashes.
Approaching 3 months now...
I've been having this same problem since May of this year, when they added an update that introduced crossplay support. I had hoped that maybe the issue was my awful system, but I upgraded and tried it again today and had the same issue.
I know exactly how you feel, but the best thing that we can do is to continue to report on the issues, I'm hopeful that now that many more people have experienced the same issues that I have been having for over half a year now that it will be taken more seriously. When I was posting about it 6 months ago I was just a getting a barrage of 'works fine for me' type comments that just made it feel like I was totally alone with this problem.
Even though I have seen no fixes for this issue, the fact that Sean Drohan has consistently replied to these tech support threads gives me hope that there are devs who are working to resolve this issue among others.
I will politely poke again.
Thanks again for your patience.

I know its holidays now so I wish the team happy holidays. I have hope this will be fixed at some point, Would be a real shame if not as its a lot of fun playing with friends!
But why it was crashed??
Happy New Year everyone! How is the fix going? Still willing to play the game with my friends
Do we have any update on the crash issues? We (Me and Elebril) would really like to get back to our map, but with the current state of game stability (or should I say, instability), resuming the game is pointless...
It doesn't really have to be the same map, just get it working again so multiplayer is viable at all.
Can we get any update on this? The last message was from over a month ago, has anything been done? Ar eyou at least looking into the issue?
There are no updates at this time I am afraid.
Dear Stardock,The game is still crashing. We just experienced a game freeze at turn 6. We thought that maybe it has something to do with the map size (we picked a large one), so we set up a new (smaller) map, we started playing - BOOM! Game crashed on turn 2 (game closed and the crash report window opened). Please update us on what has been done in the recent weeks towards resolving this issue.
I honestly admire my own patience at this point and the fact we continue playing (or rather volunteering as QAs) while it continues to crash.
One thing we noticed after several other maps is that artifacts that spawn ships/creatures (overlord ship, space monster) always make the game hang up at the end of the turn they were spawned. If we restart the game and refrain from using these artifacts, game proceeds normally that turn.
On top of what elebril wrote, I think the crashing issue ragrading artifact usage does not limit itself to spawning artifacts.Sometimes we had a crash after I used a artifact that boosted production. Not all artifacts are problematic (I never experienced a crash after e.g. terraforming a tile on a planet), but the problem is definitely triggered by using some of the artifacts.
Hope you guys fix this soon.
We have found other causes for crashes, some examples:
- the conjunction of spheres
- Sunday lottery results
- USD exchange rate
I regret preordering Galciv IV. I regret hyping up your upcoming release on our YouTube channel. You people just don't care.
If a chargeback was possible for the GalCiv IV preorder. I would do it.
that doesn't help with this, take your galciv 4 salt to another forum post unless you have something useful to add to the discussion
Well, TargetMaster, sorry you don't like our salt but we're tired of not having this fixed in a game that was relesaed back in 2015. It's been 7 years since this game has been released, we love it, we bought almost every DLC, got over 800h of gameplay recorded and the one thing that keeps us away from playing it as intended is some stupid connectivity/stability issue that Stardock has failed to fix until today. It is important to me that startdock knows how some of their player base feels about this and if they fail to deliver the stability we expect from a game we pay for upon releasing GalCiv4, believe me, there will be waaaaay more salt than you see here today. Therefore, thanks TargetMaster, but me and my salt will stay here.
Its been almost 5 months...Me and my brother have pretty much given up at this point that we will ever be able to play a game in this together with out it crashing at some point so we have moved on to other games. Would have been a lot of fun to play this game together but it keeps crashing when we play more then 50 turns in a game together. It was a waste of 20$ so that we can play together...
Your frustration is noted, I share it to be clear, but it need not drift away from the topic to get your point across.
I have nothing new to report on this, however, it would be prudent to remove all DLC (uncheck in Steam) for all players, no MODs, not user-created races or ships, just the absolute vanilla game.
Also, and prior to any test, this dir should be renamed so the game, upon 1st start, can recreate it in a default state (do not edit any settings prior to the test):
\Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3
Or any other dir that has to do with GC3, again, rename it so the game can create a new one once run.
If it runs well for MP, add one DLC at a time to see what one causes you issues.
Report back.
Thanks.
In all seriousness.
If I purchase a car and it does not work, the manufacturer does not expect me to fix it with my own hands.
It's my free time, and I'm done QAing for you. I already do this for life, but the company I work for pays me for it.
It's your colleagues' job to get your company's product to work, especially when this is not an isolated case. I am not the one who started this thread, but I will keep it alive as long as this is not fixed.
Unacceptable
And we welcome the feedback but if this is accurate, that you will not participate in helping find the cause:
Then the effort will continue to be slow and less productive I fear.
Slower than half a year since the bug was reported by someone else and nothing at all has been done? Do you expect this state of affairs to make me or other people reconsider?
Now the game locked up on the invasion screen, with those stupid dots running around a single tile instead of moving towards the target city. There is no way to leave the screen other than pressing alt + f4 and rehosting again.
What, are we supposed to be listing all the bugs that are still here forcing us to rehost every 2-3 rounds in late game so that your devs can continue working on GC4 and blatantly ignore GC3 cause it's no longer generating substantial revenue for the suits on top? We've been telling you there is a problem for half a year.
I'm sure it feels good to rant about this, but you are really barking up the wrong tree, I'm sure Sean Drohan doesn't want to have to tell us that the devs are working on GC4 but don't you think that's a fair explanation? If there was no GC4 in active development then I sure would understand your frustrations, but all I'm seeing is near constant emails about new replies in this thread and me hoping that a solution has come about only to find YOU childishly ranting in a tech support thread.
Have your personal opinions about the dev team and what they are doing, but take them into another thread, you are not providing a resource for people with similar issues to work on, you are simply bloating this out and making yourself look petty in the process.
Anyway more to the point, I have started the process of finding where to conflict is and I have soaked a totally vanilla game to completion and can load it in multiplayer so the issue must be some kind of conflict with a DLC or Expansion. I don't have a lot of time for this, but I will keep testing until I find something and then I will report back here. And actually thank you Sean for consistently replying to our issues and providing steps to help solve or help tech support to solve them, even as people do nothing but attack and harass you for it.
