It seems, I am the only one who puts the taskbar to the left side of the desktop. Is this feature coming with Start11 soon? Would be really to be able to use the mostly unused horizontal desktop space again.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo!!! Crap crap crap. I wasn't aware of that--thank you for letting us (me) know!! Man. Well, talk about vindicating Neil's comment above about Stardock's decision not to support that functionality!
I should point out that, at the bottom of that ExplorerPatcher commit you linked, someone posted a link to this article, that says this change isn't quite the end-all for that functionality yet... so I guess there's still hope.
I can, however, confirm using startallback along with start 11v2 does allow taskbar on the left still on Windows 11. I believe startallback is still planning on functioning with 24h2 (after its official release), but Im not 100 percent what direction EP will be going in.
Still it is pretty cool the dev team of start 11 made this possible.
Just type 'Feedback' at the Win 11 main menu and the Feedback Hub should be found.
Windows search for 'Feedback' used to work for me in Win 10. Now, on my new laptop with Win 11, it finds the 'Diagnostics & feedback' settings, but not anymore the feedback hub. Win+F does not do anything wither. On the settings page there is the comment "Some of these settings are managed by your organization" - so maybe my company's IT has disabled feedback hub?
I don't want this thread to drift too far from the OP's original topic. For anything outside of it, please create a new thread.

Not being able to move the taskbar to the left side of the screen is a deal breaker for me. I'd be a lifelong subscription customer with it. Without that functionality, all the other stuff doesn't matter.
Windhawk now has the perfect solution for this. There is a new mod out called "vertical taskbar for Windows 11". This very nicely gets the taskbar to the left.
But....
Currently Start 11 and this mod do not play nicely together. I wonder if an update could change that?
edit -
best work around I have found to run both start 11 and this mod is to also use a windhawk mod titled "click on empty taskbar space" and program the windows key to double click on empty taskbar space. Then program start 11 to only open via the windows key. Not perfect but a start
Sadly they (Stardock) have said here they have no intention to do so.
What we have said is we will not use hacks to accomplish things MS will inevitably make moot.

Nearly every setting is either hard to find or not possible without Start11. So by definition Isn't all this a hack?
It's all about Micorsoft's definition of what they want to classify as a "hacktool" Stardock has no control over that.
hacktools include explorerpatcher and startallback via Microsofts definition. However, the windhawk mod titled "vertical taskbar for Windows 11" is legitimate (to Microsoft i.e. no windows 10 parts are being used) which is why I posted it here to help find a solution
I use SAB with no issues but scoured through the Windhawk features and could not find a module for moving task bar to either side.

Actually I would argue anything that relies on debug data to patch private internal functions or literally scanning for specific instructions in memory would be considered by Microsoft to be a bit of a hack. I believe many of the windhawk things do that though I don't know if that particular one does or not.
You will notice our apps work just fine even if Microsoft don't put out the pdb files for a build as we need to create software that we can support and sell to businesses.
That said I suspect I know why it isn't happy with S11, in particular it would be unhappy with enhanced taskbar enabled as that wouldn't know what was going on. With that disabled on the other hand I would have expected to have been happier as it handles vertical taskbars on Win10.
That all sounds tricky for the average user to understand for sure. If the mod titled, "Vertical Taskbar for Windows 11" is in fact considered a hack by Microsoft, even I couldn't tell it was.
Yes, enhanced taskbar does have to be turned off. But even with that turned off any app pressed opens the start 11 menu rather then the intended app. The only solution is to assign the windows key to open start 11 rather then the mouse click. Not sure why that happens
That sounds like something that might be fixable to me. From that description I have a pretty good idea on what might be going on there.
I think it would be a great solution for all the people asking for moving the taskbar to the side. It is a modern Windows 11 taskbar.
Announced a few minutes ago: "v2.5 Beta Arrives with Vertical Taskbars"
Great that Start 11 2.5 now comes with the badly missed feature "Vertical Taskbar" ... although Stardock claimed not to have even the intention to do so . I am really happy to read this announcement - it made my day!!
As 2024 comes to an end, we wanted to ship one more update to make your desktops just a little bit more personal. With the release today, Start11 v2 now supports vertical taskbars on both the left and right side of the desktop.
With this new feature, you can now dock the taskbar on either side of the desktop and return a feature that was available in Windows® 10 and older version of the OS. And if you want to mix and match where the taskbar is displayed on multiple displays, you have that option as well.
New in Start11 v2.5 Beta:
•
Vertical taskbars on right and left side of the desktop
Improved support for left aligned Start icon with centered buttons on more than 2 displays
Bug fixes that improve compatibility with upcoming releases of Windows 11
The update is available now as a beta and you can download this release from the Download page of your Stardock account or through Object Desktop manager - learn more here.
yes yes yes !
thank youuuu devs
it's workiiiing!!!
insert banana dancing gif because I'm old enougth
Yeeeaaah you guys are awesome!
Ah, Windows 11 only with that Beta... My Ivy Bridge CPU prevents Win 11...
You don't need Start11 to provide a left aligned taskbar on Windows 10.

Thanks.
I got a bug, in 4k resolution the taskbar cant 'be resized, its small. I've tried:
If this must be posted in other place, sorry
I know, by dragging it over to the left border... But I've always hated how that looks lol. Thanks though, I had forgotten... Did they remove that ability in Windows 11?
With the release of Start11 v2.5 which includes vertical taskbars, we are closing this thread.
Thank you all for the feedback.
