It seems, I am the only one who puts the taskbar to the left side of the desktop. Is this feature coming with Start11 soon? Would be really to be able to use the mostly unused horizontal desktop space again.
For me it was the task bar that I need to move, not the start menu stuff. I don't use the task bar in the horizontal position because it's very inefficient in that position; vertically I can see 15 applications in the taskbar where in the horizontal position it becomes cluttered and hard to read at 8.
Tried the Taskbar left, right, top and bottom with the competitor, The strangest thing in the world to look at, when it is to the left or right, even having it at the top. I think i am just getting older and set in my ways to some degree.
It is curious the actual complexity that goes into building a new taskbar. I do know that this is also a highly requested feature people are asking Microsoft to implement. Their response is also that it is too much work.
To users such as us it seems a lot more simpler to implement. So, I do wonder myself what exactly makes adding features to Windows 11's taskbar soo tricky.
If the Docs article is correct the Dev team at MS seem to all be doing there own thing without much cross department involvement, so the mind does Boggle mate. Seen some truly wonderful Taskbars in previous WB, but i have to say, the one i love the most (For How It Looks and Works) is the one i am using now in my Tron Legacy Theme, alongside the Competitors Start Menu Replacement, looks brilliant and can be put, left, right, up or down, although after years of seeing it one way, it is so strange.
I have relied a lot on you concerning Start 11 and it's development, yes i do own a copy, but as it is on my Win 10 SSD, i hardly ever use it . Would it even work with a Theme and not a WB, i do know they both are symbiotic, needing another program to get the full effect. Right now i know which i prefer, but as my man hours on Start11 are limited, my opinion is not Valid unlike yours, who has put in the time and effort bud.
Another voice here. I'm also of the opinion that a vertical taskbar is the one thing that I miss the most in Start11.
Having a horizontal taskbar is indeed a tremendous waste of space on the common wide display aspect ratios such as 16:9. For any kind of productive work I prefer the taskbar on the left on my left monitor and the taskbar on the right on my right monitor. It's the most natural and obvious thing.
Stardock, any update on this?
Hello,So far, there is no new announcement on this request.
ThanksBasj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Don't, I'm with you! I've been using right aligned taskbars since I got my first 16:10 monitor in 2005 and still rocking it in 21:9 in 2022.
To me it's imperative before moving to Windows 11. Working professionally through various kinds of remote desktop, I make sure the taskbars are either right (personal PC, remote work workstation) or left (work laptop). That way I don't end up running my applications on the wrong machine.
I won't buy Start 11 or move to Windows 11 before I have that feature available, natively or otherwise.
FWIW I also think of left alignment of the Taskbar as a critical feature. I love Fences and would use Start11 if they added that feature.
No commitment from Stardock for over a year, so my Windows 11 laptop is using ExplorerPatcher instead of Start11.
Mine too. This is very disappointing.
Disappointment here too. I still use Stardock Fences 3 but use it alongside startallback for vertical taskbar. They seem fairly compatible.
If I remember correctly, Start11 is a modification of the Windows 11 taskbar. So adding things like vertical (or even top with 22H2) taskbar and custom taskbars is at the mercy of Microsoft. If Microsoft can't be bothered to put the work in, then both are unlikely.
AllStartBack and ExplorerPatch use the still present Windows 10 taskbar, so have all the features of that. The people behind them seem to have far fewer resources to work with or even desire to add new features like Stardock though.
"At the mercy of Microsoft" is a bit much when others can manage it. In any case, Stardock is simply ignoring this topic, and the needs of the people interested in this functionality, not indicating at all what they intend to do.
I feel like Stardock has abandoned my needs, so abandoning Stardock seems to be the only option for me. You may have different priorities, of course, and it could be that Stardock is still the best choice for you.
So you're abandoning Stardock because one app doesn't have the exact functionality you want it to have. Are you abandoning Microsoft? Because their operating system is lacking the exact functionality that you are missing in Start 11.
I couldn't get Stardock 11 to work with ExplorerPatcher (EP) on my new Win 11 laptop. EP's Windows 10 menu and taskbar work well enough, so that is where I am keeping things for now. I am not yet ready to take the offered upgrade on my Win 10 desktop.
+1 for wanting to have taskbar on the left! Stardock please give us that small feature in the next version. Microsoft isn't listening, but you guys please make it happen.
Another vote for the vertical taskbar, I miss my lefty bar
Am running Explorer Patcher with Windows 11 now. Would prefer Stardock but unless/until they decide to support the left-side menu EP is good enough for me.
Just want to add my vote to this.
I really, really miss the vertical left taskbar where I could have a huge number of programs/folders shown vertically with their names shown clearly whereas now I have to truncate them to fit in the bottom taskbar AND lose the names visibility in the process.. not to mention the wasted space since everything now shows vertically -with wasted spaces to the side- to fit the mobile devices needs.
Any news? Updated to Windows 11 and the lack of vertical taskbar is more than a shock for me atm.. I really need that left side vertical taskbar. Screens have les vertical space anyways as a point to mention.
Hello,Sorry, but there is no new announcement on it yet.
Thank you.Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
It may be on the "To Do List" at some future point, it is possible as the competitors Start Replacement Program which i use on two of my SSDs, has had the ability to move the Taskbar to Bottom, Left, Right and Top for a while now. Start 11 is progressive so i am sure we will see it at some point.
Sad been using Stardock Start for 12 years paid for every new platform change (7-8-10) including 11.
I, like many others here have to go left nothing else makes sense to me unless I still had a 4:3 aspect monitor.
I tried explorer patch, sadly needed aside, it worked but I lost functionality of Start 11 for Taskbar.
Warning said, another app was in control.
I will miss:
1) some of the functionality, for example finer control of task bar with multi monitors.
2) finer control task bar translucency
3) allowing Windows to control the color at the same time.
4) adjustments to Start menu sizing and it's finer control
In spite of those missing elements the competitor just works out of the box with no hoops to jump through. The most important feature, moving to the left works great paid for 3 keys today, under 12 buck.
Bottom line please please please Stardock maintain Fences still love it and works great with Windows 11.
Right now there are two methods to customise your desktop
WB11 and Start 11 (used it for years and loved it, until Win 11 came along)
The Competitor and one of the Theme Patchers (what i use now , as it works with Win 11 almost since its launch, and has been updated constantly to adapt to those annoying changes MS keeps dumping on us).
If anyone needs a recommendation, i would say go for the Stardock option, Why, less risk to your system, yes it is still learning, and if you have the time to follow all the fixes that react to MS changes, you will have a Kool looking Desktop.
Why would a Theme user recommend Stardock. I do maintain a Win 10 SSD with Both Start 11 and WB 10, for the future to compare functionality with WB 11 on Win 11. Themes for me , is my thing right now, will i come back to Stardock (fully), in a Heartbeat when the time is right and i see less and less problem topics. (Simply do not have the time i once had)
