Now i understand your image has to be bmp but what i am having trouble with is making mine look like this the only place that image is at is in start menu popup menu then background and in glyph tab. All i am wanting to do is i want the image to be perfectly in center of the left and right placlist like in this picture.
you can use tga (png), cut the png to 2 pcs, put 1 on the left, 1 on the right & play with the alignment.
Looks good there but next picture its ogff yes i am new to this
it means your image is too big, resize it a bit smaller, also leave enough blank area at the top and bottom part
Okay and the rest i figured it out thanks so much you don't know how to do animation for start button do you.
you can always learn from skins that already made by others.extract the images, look at it, look at the code, you will figure it out.
it doesnt mean that you have to always make 16 frames, you can make 100 frames if you want to
Mine go backwards always
copy paste this to replace your code in the code editor tab:
Trans=1PerPixel=1TopHeight=0BottomHeight=0LeftWidth=0RightWidth=0Tile=4LoopOnce=0LoopBackDelay=0FrameCount=16 <------------------- depend on how many frames you haveAnimTimerRate=80MouseEnterStartFrame=5MouseOverStartFrame=5MouseOverStopFrame=15 <-------- depend on the frame number you want to stop & loop, can be your last frame or last frame -1
Now you use animation in photoshop right then render video correct this link is what i was following. https://www.wincustomize.com/article/361485/how-to-create-an-animated-start-button-alternative
Some things i think were left out of it, so i gave up now if you are able to get me going in right direction i'll be so happy lol.
i dont understand what you mean.have you solved it or still have problem with it?i never read any tutorial, i learn by looking how others made their skins, looking at the images & checking the codes is enough to help me to understand.if you still have problem with it, you can send me your image, i'll see where the problem is.
Okay i sure well thanks
How could i have made that look better wait wrong picture
this is the one that i have now this could had been better should i have made one big one and cut it or what is best way.
if i were you, i would put the glyph on the bottom right. no need to put part of the glyph on the left because most part of the glyph will be covered by your big icons, it won't look good.also when you resize the image don't forget to tick 'constrain proportions' so that the image is not distorted.
I wonder why you would use Glyph, while you can use the 2nd,3rd etc image layer in here. It should be better since you can control your blend mode on it. Just my 2 cents.
Thank you,
Basj,Stardock Community Assistant
I agree with Basj, all my images in the start menu are a second layer, not a glyph, just like in my latest Master skin Sunset Lake, the duck image is a second layer, and I always make sure the image is the right size, so as not to interfere with the icons .
i also agree with both basj & don5318, but the question is about glyph, even the title is glyph also it's obvious that op haven't had many experience with sks which will be more difficult for me to explain how to use additional layer. not to mention my broken english will make things more confusing for others
Well I thought inorder to get that picture to look hole for the left and right place list cause the skin i got form another person thats what he used yea i just need some pointers on a better way to make my to half look good like i know what i am doing lol.
What i showed you above i am sure there is better way than what i am doing like i said i am so new to this and really don't knwo photoshop or skinstudio that well, so to make that picture better what do i need to do so next time i try one i'll know what to do
Thanks for everyones advise in advance. PS guess i did not need to use Glyph?
start menu > left hand side > program list > click "+" layer > import png for additional layer 1 > go to tab "painting" & set the marginsstart menu > right hand side > places list > click "+" layer > import png for additional layer 1 > go to tab "painting" & set the margins
can you understand? no? good, let's wait basj to elaborate more so that he can stop hiding
that's very nice of you basj, mention about additional layer then leave me to answer the question.
seriously, i think jaltadonna5 should really know how glyph works before doing layer, actually it's the same thing, but layer is a better option.
i think you already know the answer: try to know ps & sks better.
coz you can't always rely to someone else everytime you have problem, just by observing the skins made by well known skinners you will learn alot
You're not wrong on using "Glyph" images on a start menu, if you're using it on the left/right side of it (for the most part anyways). Now, if you want to have your image centered on the start menu, then creating an extra layer for said image would work, also, you'd be able to (through cutting of image, and painting margins) have the image shift according the size (width) of start menu, when you want to show icons as tiles within columns. There's a place for "glyphs", and extra layers within a skin, you'll also notice every skinner will have their own idea/way on doing things, what I just explained above works for me, I can't speak for the other skinners, skinning is definitely a learning curve and also evolving, that's my two cents. Duces everyone...
Well, I am just pointing out a better option here. But, if someone wish to use glyph, by all means, go ahead.
On the other note, I learn almost everything on Skinstudios by trial and error and looking from how others did it too. I recommend others who like to learn, try it first, and ask only when you're stuck. That the fastest way to learn and it will stick with you longer that way.
Well said Basj, I picked the brains of Andy (neone6), Tom (LightStar), and the late Dave Baxter (RIP my friend) they were my mentors in the start of my skinning, and I appreciated all of them, for their help, you couldn't ask for a better bunch of people to help/guide in skinning technics, anyway, as you stated Basj, trial and error works too, that and look at other artists skins, to see how they achieved there technics.
can't agree more
So i take it witch they not expensive to buy there skin and put it in skinstudio just to see how they did it, that i can do just when i get to the part where it comes to that i want to make a animation start button that something i can not figure out mine always goes backwards.
But thats for another subject right now i am trying to figure out how to make my start menu to look perfect I well I well get this just going to take me time.
And yes 1nsomn1ac i do know the answer but been watching video on how to for photoshop but thers none for skinstudio i mean nothing.
