So.. I did this new topic because I can't reply in supposed brahcn, because I'm blocked as newbied (I put only 3-4 reply there).. so I dedided to write to support (as it was suggested there)... and they auto reply revert me back to the forum. So as I understood only one way how I can put somewhere here now is by creating post.
Okay. So here I collected all bugs that happened with me in one place by priority of toughness for user experience. Most of them I have described above. But here I have decided to summarize all of them at the moment. And I did purge from the bat file before doing all of these actions, but it didn't give any positive effect. So here is bug list:
1) "SLOWMOTION". Don't know why, but I feel that workflow with installed Fences, just a bit slower on Desktop. For example it is hard to describe exactly, but in most actions it take more additional time. For example it happens when:
a) you create a selection area by left mouse (if in fences it is turned off to create new fences by left mouse.. looks like it still calculates something, even though). Comparison example(left side witout Fences, right side installed Fenses)
when you dragging Fences over the desktop, you can feel this delay, and even see that cursor going further than Fence.
c) when you replacing icons it took much more time than usually (~ additional second)

c) when hover over and unfolding Fences, it feels that they a bit laggy(slow) opens, and not immediately. As I understood it related with content (more files it represent, more it effect). Example
On this recording it's might be not so laggy because I have opened this Fences before. But it specially tough feels after restarting system. Anyway, even in this example it have been stuck on one that I have not touch before. And even thought all other just slightly feels laggy too. But interesting thing that if you will repeat this action again a lot of times (feels stupid ) and again... in some moment they start behave more speedy (probably as it should be)
d) when you twice tap to hide all. It' visually seen how it like slowly laggy (steps) when hide, and hide moment starting not at one, but take just a second to begun (same in back direction). Example
It's looks like it process 1 second before start hiding all fences
I put it to 1st position of bed experience. I just really want and wich if it work so smooth and fast as native speed of desktop. And I'm new user of Fences and really not sure, maybe it was like that always (because I feel that it was in 3.12 and 3.10 that I have installed at first few days ago)
2) "DESTRUCTION HOTKEYS". I just pressed on this hotkey Ctr+Shift+F12 combination (I have used it for draw software and it's close to another one for screenshots.. so that's why how I faced with this bug)
And all Fences at once scattered and messed up on both desktop like if software was collapsed and closed. On left/right click it not react(like it was closed and not existed), and Fences options menu on right click not exist too. But when I start it from icon whole program options appears. But I can't restore position by previous state in options.
Another strange glitch.. that I be able to switch screens, and it looks like all this messy moves (small dots screen indicators appears at bottom of screen too, and show where exactly am I). But icons moves strange like moves and not moves at once... literally they stand on their places, and when I press ALT+arrow, copy of all icons moves in proper direction like it should, and all looks same at the end, because nothing is changed.
After restarting all looks okay. Only after that I found that if you press this hotkay again - all revert back to initial position and will looks like should. But all Fences areas is disappeared, and at same time response on mouse hover.
Interesting that if you drop some lebel from any explorer place to desktop(I have fence that collect all desktops items, maybe it's important, who knows) it all revert back and start show all fences as should be.
3) "MAGICAL GRAB-HAND". You can grab icons through other screens(if you have more then one) by simply diagonal move and drag from any free space(but over that spot, where on other screen Fences are located), and mess up you order in this case.
Here is example
4) "ANNOYING FLICKERING OPACITY". If you do you Fences opacity level les then 100% and them simply press outside on the desktop and press ALT button, they all will Flickering by changing to 100% at this moment of press this button(and loose at once win-transparency mode). And it's hinders and distracts when you change 'screens' by ALT+arrow combinations
5) "UNPROCESSING TEXT". I'm not sure if is this a bug or some sort of optimization? But it really feels like a bug. When you switch screens by ALT-arrows text bellow all icons at all new screens appear after 1 second. But the shadow of text is still seen. So that's why I think that it's a bug(because otherwise probably you will not upload shadows before original text)
Don't think that I'm indignant. Just really want help and hope you guys be able to fix all this issues. I really like the concept and how exactly it was implemented. Same that I'm searching for.
And could you please send me older stable build version 3.09 ? For reason if I will found some new hard bugs and will stuck with it. Until the new update comes, I will wait for the older one.

Hey, I know this is old but I wanted to say I've been having very similar issues (especially 1. Slowmotion). Hope this gets resolved soon too!

Not sure if relevant but I recently installed Wallpaper Engine, but this was also happening before then.

For me it's not work (even if works I not feel the difference). I even tuned off some other additional checkboxes parameters too Unfortunately It's lagging the same way
P.S: I have checked it even on v 4, and it's still the same all except last one (5 - "UNPROCESSING TEXT"). Looks like this one was fixed. Unfortunately, I launch v4 and have no see the reason to upgrade. Probably will need to wait on version 7 or something like that... . I really hope on that, that once it will be fixed.
Because mostly really interfering of nice expirience to use it, is still 3) "MAGICAL GRAB-HAND" and 1) "SLOWMOTION". First one is do a lot of randome mess up. So all the time you should be really careful/scary to do any manipulations with files/folders and icons on the descktop screen, with extracontol. And it's slower the work(with conjuction of "slowmotion bug") and need to used to strange behave on reflecs level (agree, sounds weird?). Or use only 1 screen (but I bought it exactly for purpose of using in few screens mode, because this is one of the main feature of it, that I really like in Fences, to be able have order with a lot files/icons/folders, for different workflow). And second one bug just slow process of working with files and icons.

I don't found the proper branch as it was before, so until not forger I will put it here. WISHLIST:
1) DECREASE DELAY BETWEEN CHANGING DESCTOP SCREENSCurrently it have some half of the second of freezing/thinking before start swap to another screen. Or maybe it feels so, because when you need to switch on 4rth screen you should press button few times, and it's not responce for each one, but have some pauses in 1 second between screens stop animation. And it's not depends off animation on/off for swaping screens. For both modes they did this pause so you can't just fast jump onto 4th screen without this pausing.
2) DO UNISTALL PROCESS MORE SIMPLE. (same to upgrade)
Currently it extrimely stressful process. Duno.. maybe it's because it happens on my PC.. but I run unistall "Fences 4" and it run window, then after continue press button it hide window but still in the task bar..due 10 min without any responce and ability to close it. Only from "close the process". And I repeat it fome few times.. because it not do anything looks like, because all files was on place. Only once it decided to delete files.
(Please. Do not hide it, because it's not obvious what is happening. And put the progress bar of deleting process, to not think that it stuck.)
And after all that you should then 'dancing' with purging and all this process. WHy to not include it insude unsistall by default? As I remeber before it was not simple too.. because I always run Purdge.bat file
Just imagine situation when you do all this "dancing" at time when you was not prepeared for it, and should continue do work but all yours work was attached now to different folders and you cant understand in this mess where something located now. And should continued trying to fix this problem, just to be able come back to previous activity. I think it will be most common situation for users.
3 SHOW PROPER FANCE ICONS ON STARTING OPERATIONS SYSTEM AT ONCE
Another thing that I wish to appeare in future versions - is that after you launching OS, it currently show you all yours desktop icons as total messy, untill it's not launch program. Usually it about 1 minute. But if they at once start all like it should looks like on desktop, it would be much more appealing. Dunno if it possible to achiave somehow. But it will be great.
Just example from my own experience. I have folder for anatomy references, so I usually grab and put there anything that catch my eye for futher study process.. so and now some one came as guest to you and you start OS, and all this mess of images randomely spread at Desktop. Can't tell that it too much bother me, but I found this unnnecessery that someone will be able see all your files at once.
4 UPDATE BUTTON NOT WORK PROPERLY
I push "check for updates" button stable each week after 3.1.3.3 and never get any news that v4 came. It always show me that current is the last version (even before downloadn new one, I have checked this button again, and it's now show me any info about new update), I just accidentaly found that update was realesed mouth ago, when came on site.
5 GLOBAL HOTKEYS FOR SCREEN SWITHCH
Would be really love to see Global hotkeys to switch the screens without no need to press each time on descktop, just to activate ability to swithc with hotkeys. This moment slower down fast usege in work. Becuase usually I do like this:
If ound it quite too many useles actions (at least 3 steps) to do simple action.
6 DISCOUNT IN HALF PRICE FOR THOSE WHOM IS BOUGHT ONCE
Of course maybe I'm too poor... but I found current discount for upgrades too low. It's too close to the same price. Because I can imagine how many time you will need to fix all the exist problem it seems to some few years(and it's normal for biulding software, questin not in this)And just thinking sensibly, I don't see any point in buying the program every year, especially since I've already bought it once. Okay, I understand that it needs for support to bugs fixing process and etc. But 2$ discount it's like the same price Since, in general, the current payment model discourages all the desire to maintain on an ongoing basis, when you need to buy a program for a new one every time. It's more reasonable to wait until it will be workable, and only then buy it again, than pay each time with each new version. Why not make a discount of at least half of the original price (as 5$) for those who have already bought it once? Then at least it is more or less acceptable. And I feel that it will be more comfortable more mostly users, to buy it each time. And the person is more likely to agree. And in yours current model, it seems to me that any sane person will simply decide to wait a year or two, unntil it will be workable(then watch test trial version to see changes). Than support all this time from version to version. It seems to me that with the current model you scares away even those who could theoretically be able to support the project. And boutht middle versions too
7 REVERT BACK FALLEN OUT FROME THE SCREEN FENCES
I don't know, maybe it work like this, but if no — all Fences that was for some reason fall out from Desktop screen, should be placed back on the screen after Restarting OS
8 ALWAYS RESTART EXPORER.EXE AFTER PURGING
I found that if i unistall software from all programs unistal place, then goes and run purge.bat (to be sure that it really unistalled) file without next reseting PC, I'll get clean PC (without anything), because it turn off explorer (but not restart it properly). And just imagine if you at this time have opened some other programs with some progress in it (mostly users will not found any way to deal with it as only reset PC and loose data). So I think better always restart explorer.exe, even if user not "choose reset pc now" (maybe he have some not finishing work at this moment, that's why he choose not reset now, and get into this bad situation).
9 OVERLOAD SSD WITH OS AND FREEZING SYSTEM [the last one and fatal/ctitical for decision to use Fences at all]
I really have no idea what might be a reason of this, but after I reinstalled back from version 4 to to 3.1.3.3 (after trial period was done and I rewatch on differences) it start freeze OS just almoust each day by overloading SSD where it was installed to 100%. So it's impossible to do something except hard reset, because each action might delay of 10-30 min
I can have only 2 assumptions (maybe some windows update happence[and it defenetely was] that or after v4 installation process somethig somewhere was dramatiaclly changed.. but. As far as I remeber it was happence before too..(with all versions) but really rarely. Maybe once in a week or two. So I not paied attention to it a lot, and start thingking that SSD probably gonna die. But now it's happence almoust each day, that not give me any possibilities as trying to find the reason during few weeks.
It's not something else. It's definitely because of Fences somehow interat with SSD. SSD is fine as I checked (it's only 2 years old, it always have ~30 GB free space from 240), all possible or impossible thing that might lead to it I checked and cleaned too. And each time I've installed Fences system freeze happence in randome moment of time. But mostly when I do some interatiocns with windows or explorer (and mostly(80% cases) of this time as I remeber Firefox was opened) Only when I remove Fences - nothing like that is happence no more. And OS goes smoothely well without any freezing at all. So please check this moment in future updated.. something definitely happence there.
So.. how I'm not like it's possibilities of quick access and few screens with preview of images inside portals... I should remove it just to be able do something at all, because I don't see any other way. Sadly. Especially when I have used to it so. Now my only hope to wait on really far future updates(after year or two), to check it then. And maybe at once some previous mantioned(freezing or "grabbing hang") bugs will gone too. At least one good thing will happen for you, that I'll not bother you more near future with my bad expirience here😅
PS: I always did purging. And tested v3 witout my usual settings too (clean settings) - and always have same result: freezing OS.
Anyway, whishes good luck with development. Hope once it will be more stable 🤞
