Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making Start11 a better product.
Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having trouble.
So you had Start10 on Windows 11? If so, that should not have worked.
If you uninstall, reboot, is there anything left behind in the install directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start11
For that matter, do you still have anything for Start10:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10
If so, delete them both and ensure there is not a Start10 \ 11 services left.
Reinstall in the Default:
And let us know if again it's not working.

The only other thing I've done is use Winaero Tweaker but not to do anything to the taskbar.
If it helps... Can recover taskbar colour and transparency by restarting the Windows Explorer process in Task Manager but again, it doesn't survive monitor power off or reboot.
I just purchased Start11 yesterday, running it on Build 22000.120. I've noticed that I have to click the Start button twice to get the Start menu to open. On the first click, it opens and then immediately closes. Click again, and it stays open.
Edit: I believe it might be connected to auto-hide on the Taskbar. If Taskbar remains open, I click again and it will continue to work. Allowing Taskbar to close usually causes the problem to appear again the next time. Also, using the keyboard Windows key works every time.
Windows v 21H1 Build 19043.1165
Start11 0.5
After uninstalling Start10 and installing Start11, then rebooting, one of the program shortcuts pinned to the Start11 menu, for Microsoft Sticky Notes, returned an error when I clicked on it. I can't remember exactly what it said, I think it was "the program the shortcut points to no longer exists, do you want to delete the shortcut?".
I deleted it, searched for "sticky notes" using the Start11 search, then re-pinned it and now it works. However, the shortcut no longer appears in the spot it should, based on alphabetic order.
There was also a recent cumulative update to Windows, KB5005033, but I don't remember if it was before or after I upgraded Start10 to Start11, so it could be the culprit.
edit: Just had the same problem with a shortcut to Snip & Sketch, so it appears to be related to shortcuts for "Universal Applications".
Using Start 11 beta on Windows 11 Enterprise, Version 21H2, OS Build 22000.132 and seems to work similar to Start10 predecessor, except I do not see the option to change the Start Button icon. As I use several systems it is very useful to help me distinguish those with Start1X installed from those without. Also, It just looks so much better!
Gotta buy it right away? Why can't we try it?
Hey,
Last night (Australian Time) I installed Start 11 and also upgraded my Fences to the latest release before rebooting my computer. Once rebooted I lost all access to my printers. The print spool service was gone from the services screen and when I when into settings all my printers were gone and printers screen was totally blank, no text of any kind, just totally blank. The settings screen then locked up. I have windows11 release 120 and I ended up having to restore from a week old backup to get the system back. Was there some issue with installing both Start 11 and the Fences update at the same time before rebooting?
I had to restore as all my office apps and reckon (intuit in US) apps refused to start because of the printer issue and those that did run crashed when I tried to print. Very strange behavior indeed. I have now upgraded my fences again this morning with no issue, but I'm hesitant to reinstall Start 11 in case it kills my print ability again.
I should make it clear that everything was working till I did the above installs, so something in the install process has caused the issue.
I couldn't grab any screen shots as that ability died as well.
Darryl
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, from what I understand Fences is not yet officially compatible with Windows 11. I am not saying it is the reason for your missing printers issue. But, need to inform you of the possibilities.

In the Modern Mode, when you hover over a pinned folder the contents pop up in the right pane in alphabetical order . As of now this list does not scroll. If possible, making this scrollable would make sense.
Sorry, I forgot to add that I had disabled Start10 right before upgrading to Windows 11 Dev, I removed it from the Windows startup, and disabled the service before running Windows 11 upgrade because I was already aware of Start10 glitches with Windows 11 (I tried running it though, did not work at all)
Here's what I did now:
- Rebooted- Uninstalled Start11 with the latest Iobit Uninstaller- Rebooted- Deleted C:\Program Files(x86)\Stardock directory all together (there was no Start10 directory inside it)- Rebooted- Installed Start11 with basic installation- Started it with 30 days tryout, confirmed the trial- These settings (below) are in effect, closed the config window- No Start11 start menu available ...- Rebooted- No Start11 start menu available, Start11Srv and Start11_64.exe are running, Stardock Start11 -named service running happily in Services application. Funnily enough when checking it's properties, it says "Service Name" is Start10, but "Display Name" is Stardock Start11
Seems to be resolved... After several attempts to sort this out by uninstalling Start11 (including settings) rebooting then reinstalling I discovered the problem appears to have been with the registry! There was some painstaking and careful deletion of all registry keys related to Stardock, Start10 and Start11 - there were keys that couldn't be deleted so initially I left them alone and reinstalled Start11. That didn't work either so I went through the whole process again and this time managed to delete ALL the registry keys using a third party registry editor.
It would appear that uninstalling Start10 or Start11 doesn't completely clear registry entries which leads to problems!
Can you edit the hover position of Start11 so it matches the normal Win11 startmenu position?
https://ibb.co/ww0HxMK
Also the rounded edges don't match the system style as they are not very smooth.
Will the function to change the Start icon be added in the future?
The hover position in Win11 doesn't make much sense when the menu is located on the left as to look balanced it has to be shifted right too which means it no longer lines up with the button which is why we chose to only shift it up when in centre mode.
We might add an option to leave it to the user to decide on that as I know we would get complaints if we shifted it by default when left aligned.
Rounded edges will be changing in future updates.
The start button is undecided currently. Left aligned start button wouldn't be too much of an issue, but centred mode would be due to how it animates position with open / close of windows.
Hitoday I bought Start11how to change the language to Polish? in the Start11 / lang folder is Polish
Am I missing something or is there no longer an option to change the start button icon?
Running Start11 on Windows 10. Having an issue with search. Some apps that exist in the Start Menu can't be found with search. An obvious example is File Explorer, but I've run across a few others.
I can click "All programs" and locate them that way, or I can locate them with Windows 10 search (Win+S).
Tried defaulting to Windows 10 search but Start11 often fails to pass the first character that I type into the Windows 10 search box. (I.e. type "file explorer" and get "ile explorer" in the search box.)
I posted this on the wrong place and was told to post it here instead.
Running win 11 pro - build 22.000.132.
The taskbar is set to 50% transparency. When the machine boots the taskbar goes back to the default dark grey color, and to being 100% opaque. If you go back to the transparency setting in start 11, the setting is where it should be, but the taskbar is opaque. If you nudge the slider either way by just 1% the taskbar becomes transparent again. However upon say installing a new piece of software or other actions the taskbar goes back to being the opaque grey once again.
I hope this helps.
Same here! I thought I'd solved it by carefully cleaning the registry of all references to 'Stardock' before reinstall of Start11 but it turned out to be a temporary fix. Now back to the same behaviour that you are seeing. I've found that going to 'Settings/Taskbar/Use automatic colour for the taskbar', switching automatics colour on then back off again brings colour and transparency back. Definitely a bug!
Due to changes in the config UI the configuration screen will not be translated until closer to release as it is still in the process of being changed.
The settings text on the menu seems like an oversight and I will get that checked.
Thats very odd as the same search here produces the expected result.
What language is your Windows install?
Also in the all programs list if you right click on the file explorer option and pick properties, what is the path to the shortcut?
Hey Bobert1950,
Thanks for confirming I'm not the only one with the issue. I concur, I think it's a bug.
It's regular old English. File Explorer shortcut path is:
C:\Users\aaron\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools
Thought it might be an indexing service thing, but other tools (i.e. built-in Windows search, and Open Shell Menu) do not have a problem locating the shortcut. I previously had Start10 installed and never had any such trouble with it but I had it uninstalled a few months before starting to try out Start11.
[Edit] Unscientific searching seems to indicate that the "missing" programs are from my user's start menu folder and not from the global start menu folder. I have been able to find some programs from my user's start menu folder though so they are not all missing.
Here is another example.
[Edit 2] It seems that it can find shortcuts at the root level of C:\Users\aaron\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs but any subfolders under that are a no-go. I confirmed that these folders are covered by the Windows Search index. I'm rebuilding the index and I'll see if that makes any difference.
I cannot customize the windows 11 start menu button from the default of windows.
I could using Start10 but not in Start11.
This is normal for Start11 beta 0.5. You can customize the start button on Windows 10 but not on Windows 11 due to changes in that OS.
We are looking at if we will offer that on Windows 11 in the future, but the centre start button complicates matters considerably.
Win 11, Ver=21H2, Build=22000.132 / Start11, Ver=0.5
Sometimes (not always) when I click on the Start icon (bottom right) the cursor starts wandering - as if there is remote support also moving the cursor. Only started after Start 11 installed, but it may be a Win 11 problem.
