Hello I updated and restarted my computer and now my desktop is empty. No matter what I do they do not appear. Enabling fences button does nothing and restoring fences from last save neither.

how did you reinstall
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Do you by any chance also using Deskscapes 11?
ThanksBasj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Have you tried layout snapshot restore?
Before you reinstall, try disable Fences and see if all the icons appear on your desktop. If yes, enable Fences again and try disable Fences desktop pages and see if all the Fences return to your main desktop. Try that and report back.
Thank you,
Basj,Stardock Community Assistant
And after you install 3.13?

Purging Fences and reinstalling seems to have fixed the issues (as he breathes a BIG sigh of relief!
no
After upgrading to 3.13, I had no icons or fences or newly created/added icon, file, folder doesn't show up and desktop is just blank with background only
also left mouse selection (blue rectangle) does not show up
restarting explorer or OS do nothing
is there a link to downgrade to preview version
Hello,Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling. Just make sure to re-download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, I do not see your posted on issues you're having. Please elaborate.
worked after purge and reinstall
Excellent, glad it worked.
Yesterday I installed 3.1.3.3. From me past experiences with Stardock software I should not have done that. Today all icons were gone. Rightclick-> show icons. All Icons showed up but all Fences were gone. Rightclick -> activate Fences: nothing happens.I found the purce script and ran it. After that I reinstalled Fences. Fences ran again, but ALL MY FENCES WERE GONE. I had to recreate them.
This did cost me precious time this morning, that I not had. Get your things together, almost every time Stardock updates are faulty and cause problems. Something this simple should just work.
In the future I will delay updates as I did in the past from bad experiences. Those bad experiences were the cause to uninstall all other Stardock Software besides fences.
Win 10 20H2 64, AMD Ryzen 7.
Basj,
Yes, I do have Deskscape 11 installed. I uninstalled Deskscape (but did not remove/reinstall Fences 3.9.33 after uninstalling Deskscape) and the problem was still present....so I reinstalled Deskscape. Are the 2 compatible?
If yes, just disable Deskscape 11 and take a new layout Snapshot and see if it still blank/black background? Those thumbnails that taken while Deskscape 11 still running will be blank/black background. But the layout restore should still work.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Have you tried layout snapshot restore?ThanksBasj,Stardock Community Assistant.
I had. I ending up having multiple problems going on. First of all, the Fences update was kind of screwy in that it was placing empty fences on top of desktop icons. This happened even after purging and reinstalling. The other problem I had was IT-related ... my IT department decided to turn on OneDrive sync with my desktop and basically moved everything to OneDrive. Once I moved the files back, I was able to restore layouts successfully.
Yes, that is the issue, Fences need all your desktop icons/shortcut etc physically inside your desktop folder, sync it to OneDrive will make that happened. There were few reports on this and the only solution is to bring back those icons into your desktop folder and disable OneDrive Desktop Sync.
The items on my desktop remain hidden, and I can't interact with them. This is the same issue I had the last time I upgraded to the latest version of Fences. I'm using Windows 10 Pro.
Do I have to downgrade to an older version again? Or is there something I'm missing?
@DevsWould you be so kind and stop pushing pop-ups urging me to update!!
I don't want to update at all and would like to know where to toggle off update pop-ups??
I upgraded to Fences 3.13 on Windows 21H1 19043.1165 per the fences pop-up. After reboot, my desktop is completely blank. If I navigate to the desktop folder in explorer, all my files are present and available. Double-Clicking on the desktop does nothing. Right clicking on the desktop shows my right click menu with 'Enable Fences' as an option. However, choosing that option does nothing. I can 'run' fences from the start menu (yea Start 10), and it starts. It shows Version 3.1.3.3 and fences is enabled. Snapshots of my desktop are there, but restoring one again does nothing. disabling and enabling fences does nothing as well. I also tried disabling the double click to hide desktop.
At this point, I need to uninstall and install an older version. I have a copy of 3.09 locally and will install that over 3.13 first.
Yes, this is my issue exactly. I've also just reverted to 3.09.
Still curious as to what exactly is causing the issue, seeing as how it has persisted for the two(?) latest updates.
