Epic Games is owned by Chinese company Tencent. Tencent has strong ties to the Chinese government. With all the human abuses that the Chinese government is committing (very much including the silent holocaust of the Muslims and other non-state-sponsored religions) I cannot in good conscience give any of my money to a platform with ties such as this.
This is not a whim or some SJW fluff.
Two years ago I deleted my Blizzard account (which they made difficult to do, BTW) after Activision took China's side on the Taiwan/PRC issue.
Steam is wholly owned by Americans and cares only for making money for Americans and making good gaming experiences.
When I opened the email this morning, I was ready to drop $50 dollars to become a GalCiv 4 founder, as I did when GalCiv 3 released so long ago. But with the Epic Store, nope.

That's the reason a lot of people refuses to buy anything on the Epic store. The money they are giving away to developers is dirty. China's regime is not your friend.
I find this argument a little poor honestly. For two main reasons:
1) Epic is still a privately owned company and whilst Tencent owns a cut they don't have a controlling share.
2) It's harder to find companies that Tencent doesn't have a cut in. From Discord to Reddit, Blizzard to Paradox they're everywhere.
Of course it's your choice where you spend your money but if that is the issue for you then you're gonna find vanishingly fewer games to enjoy.
They already said the game was coming to steam upon full release. Also If you don’t want to support the Chinese regime you aren’t going to be able to buy practically anything.
I guess you should blame who ever allowed foreign nations to buy stocks, or whoever invented stocks.
So is Riot, but no one seems to care.
Thanks for letting me know. I never used Epic and never will, what have they done with bribing for all the exclusives just pissed me off.
Now I have one more reason to not deal with them. Just hope Gal. Civ. 4 will not be Epic exclusive.
