My best advice would be to try to boot Windows into safe mode or safe mode with networking , that's typically the way to deal with stuff like that ,
and then try to install the version 3.09 on top of old via safe mode , then boot into normal mode and see if it helped (eventually see if you can restore settings from a previous saved snapshot if need be)
same goes if you just want to un-install - which I would not recommend as I do not know if your snapshots and other settings will saved...

"Uninstall: Invalid uninstall control file: C\PtogramFiles(x86)\Stardock\Fences\uninstall\uninstall.xml"
I carried on regardless and after reboot I was offered the Fences set-up panel (which I ignored).
Then when reinstalling a downloaded Fences 3.09, I get this warning:
"Error: The uninstall executable file could not be written out because it is already in use. Close all running uninstalls and click Retry to continue. Click Cancel to abort."
I checked Task Manager for anything which might show an uninstall running, but no signs I could recognise.
There seems to be a corruption in my Fences uninstall files - is there a way of repairing them?
Or should I move on to FiatLux's suggestion?????
We have something in the oven.
Thanks for your patience.
Unable to use after update, help!!
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please rollback to V3.09. Please uninstall V3.1, reboot and reinstall V3.09. You should be able to download it from your account : https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Reboot after the installation and retest it.

Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
I had problems with the update, as I reported in reply #142 here. I simply reinstalled an earlier version of Fences, as offered then on this site, rebooted my computer, and as far as I know, my problems went away and my numerous Fences and icons/links in them are still working just fine and I'm not aware at this point that I lost anything from them.
Sorry to hear that some others are having considerable difficulties still.
I have the same problem and posted a similar question. No answer yet. I want to back out of the recent update.
Does this reinstall preserve existing fences? Or, do we have to redo the fences when reinstalling the previous version?
The purge steps as mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling does not suppose to remove your saved layout snapshot. But, to be sure, you can backup your layout snapshot using this guide : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#backupsnapshots
Thank you,

WynApse, if you used the batch file you will notice that your old backup of your layout snapshots will be saved under %appdata%\startdock\Fences_old. You will see the backups folder there with all your previous Snapshots.
Sorry, should have read further on. Glad you're all fixed up!

Doing the Purge does not lose your snapshots , there still there

Hello, We are trying to upgrade to the new Fences v.3.1 but all of the links on the website appear to be to the v.3.0.9 version. We are currently running 3.0.9.11. Could someone provide a link to the installer to do an upgrade?
Thanks for any info.
Version 3.1.0.5 was pulled back to be updated to fix a couple known issues
it will be back for release again soon as it's ready .
Tiny issue, but letting you know. Fences 3.1 installed and ran fine. However, when I installed the latest AMD drivers and rebooted from that, all my fences grew to 4-wide, instead of 3-wide, so extended onto the other monitor. Windows 10, latest, and AMD (obviously) latest. Easily fixed manually, but still a strange behavior.
Cannot seem to be able to create a portal fence to the Recycle Bin. There is another app that is an alternative to fences that allows for that. Is it possible to accomplish? Or have I just not found a way to do it yet?
Hello,I have forward your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.
Update: I get feedback. No, it seems that is not possible for Fences.
Thanks
Just a heads up...Take a snapshot in "Layout & snapping" before ANY fences changes. It has saved my butt a few times after Intel graphic update installs.
