I have searched and searched but I just can't find the answer. I usually get lots of trade resources while playing Retribution, but how do I trade them? I don't/can't collect them even though I own the planet. I never get to build any special buildings and I can't sell them like in the older versions and titles. Is my game faulty or are there some settings I'm not seeing?
Trade resources on planets are completely useless until they have been improved. Check the tile with the resource to see if there is an upwards arrow on it. If so, it needs to be improved. On the right side of the screen, check the list of things that can be built. There should be something that is an improvement for that trade resource. Once it is built, you will begin accumulating 0.1 of the trade resource per turn. You can only trade in increments of whole numbers, so you will have to wait until you have at least one before trading.
There are techs that can be researched that allow you to build better improvements which allow you to accumulate resources at a faster rate.
I have never seen anything like that on my game. The resource is there. Taking up a tile and that's it... Now way to improve it, no arrows, nothing to build or upgrade...
I've never had that happen to me. Here is a screenshot showing a trade resource that needs to be improved.
On the right side there is an Aurorus Orchard that can be built to improve the Aurorus Arboretum.
Perhaps verifying the intergrity of the game files will fix the problem. Don't be surprised if 2 to 4 files have to be reaquired. It doesn't mean anything, but that's the way it works with this game. More than 2 to 4 means something was wrong and was fixed.
You haven't mentioned using mods. A mod that isn't designed for Retribution can cause lot of problems. By mods, I don't mean anything from the workshop. Workshop content for this game aren't mods by the definition used by this game. Mods mean something downloaded by you from somewhere that isn't Steam and put into the Mods directory. You then have to turn on mods in the Options. If you are using mods, turn mods off.
After these two "fixes" are done, you will need to start a new game to see if the problem is solved.
If the problem still exists, I'm out of ideas.
No mods. No add-ons Nothing other than the game as is. Clean DL from steam. I have verified it several times but even after "repairing" the game it will not work. I'll try to uninstall it and see if that helps.
You need to research certain techs to make use of such resources, like this one.
Sorry to say but that doesn't work either... I have played the game for 163 hours and nothing happens on the tradefront. Other than me sending cargo ships to other planets. The trade resources remain only as a tile grabber! It also seems like I have a different game...
All planetary resources should be upgradable once without tech, and twice more with appropriate tech. Seems like it is an error with your install, maybe a reinstall will help?
Yeah... I just tried that. Didn't work... Not sure where to go from here
Come to think of it. I can't change the mode of government either...
If governments are working properly, they can only be changed after gaining a second planet, and once changed, cannot be changed again for 26 turns. But if resource upgrades aren't working, it is possible that governments are wonky for you as well. I have no ideas, other than the failed reinstall. Hopefully the Stardock support team can help.
I hope so as well. This is frustrating... None of the missions are doable either... Dang... Pay full price for half a game
Missions need the right government type (some governments don't allow missions to be sent - it is in their descriptions), and a lot of the missions also require resources, such as planetary ones from your original post.
So what comes up when you mouse over the tile with the resource on it?
Which DLC do you own?
Are the DLC properly installed? Right click on the game, then go to Properties and there check the DLC tab.
Are you using any of the classic patches? Look in the Betas tab in Properties.
Not sure what you mean with DLC. The latest update was the GalCiv3 4.01 with the Retribution expansion pack. I DLed it from Steam so... Should be up to date at any time. I have tried to reinstall it several times but... Nope...
Are the DLC you have marked as installed?
Are you on any beta branch?
I have only this...
Well that explains some things. The resource system was overhauled with the Crusade expansion, governments were added with the Intrigue expansion.
Ok?So I only got half the game? What else would I need in order to play the full game?
You bought it on 21st February 2021?
You should have gotten Crusade free, the same as Retribution. It is now an integral part of the game so it won't register as a separate item. It was added free because it changed some of the ways the files were organised, so it made it easier for the devs to create more content if everyone had it. Or something like that, anyway. It made it easier for devs to develop content. Mega Events DLC is also included.
Intrigue isn't included an is additional, paid, Expansion Pack, £15.49 on Steam, currently. There are a few DLCs and Expansion Packs that you can buy for GalCiv3.
You haven't bought "half a game", there is just extra content that you can optionally buy. It's how a lot of games work these days...
The simple answer would be the rest of the DLC.
The expanded answer would depend on what you like. Each DLC adds different things to the game.
Crusade expansion adds the Citizen system, espionage, changes how invasions work, and the Terran Resistance, Onyx Hive and Slyne as playable civilizations.
Intrigue expansion adds governments, crisis events, the galactic market where you can sell and buy resources.
Mercenaries expansion adds the Galactic Bazaar, where mercenary ships can be recruited, and Torians and Arceans as playable civilizations.
From the smaller DLC there are the two free ones, the Map Pack which adds a map editor and several premade maps, and the Builders Kit which adds more cosmetic parts for the ship designer.
There are DLC which add more civilizations to play with or against, Revenge of the Snathi, Rise of the Terrans, Heroes of Star Control: Origins, Villains of Star Control: Origins.
The rest add extra stuff that can impact a game:
Mega Events - several mega events, like Peacekeepers, which sees a bunch of ships appearing and attacking any civilization that is at war
Precursor Worlds - adds special planets with bonuses and new colonization events
Lost Treasures - new colonization events that can reward planetary improvements or ship components
Altarian Prophecy - adds a new campaign
Mech Parts Kit - add new cosmetic ship parts
Worlds in Crisis - more crisis events, planet types
Ah, well not having all the expansions does seem to explain the problems. As a player, I highly recommend all the expansions (Intrigue, Mercenaries) - you have Retribution and Crusade should be included). As far as other DLC, I have them all other than Villains of SC and Mech Parts (which are completely unnecessary). My personal recommendations (the ones that most affect gameplay), if you wanted to get some, would be Precursor Worlds, Lost Treasures, and Worlds in Crisis. Mega Events is good too. I do like having the extra civilizations as well (though I didn't care for Heroes of SC, so didn't get Villains) but that's totally unnecessary.
After going on an buying spree on Steam, I now have WiC, L.T., Merc, Precursor, Mega, Builders, Map, Rise and Intrigue... Still no trade resources... Or the research ability...
As I stated previously the resource system was modified with Crusade, if you have purchased the game recently from Steam you should have gotten Crusade, Retribution and Mega Events alongside the base game. If one of those items is missing I suggest restarting the Steam program, if they still don't appear contact Steam support for help.
When I bought the retribution pack I only had GC3 and retribution. Nothing else. Everything had to be bought seperatly or as an overpriced Ultimate edition... Still this thing doesn't work... And have yout tried to send an email to stardock? We are sorry you are having problems... But we won't help. Use the forum...
There is no Retribution pack, this is what is available on Steam. Where did you purchase this "Retribution pack"?
There are many great features available to you once you register, including:
