Why aren't tab names saved when saving group?
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Not sure what you're referring on "tab names" please elaborate.
ThanksBasj,Stardock Community Assistant.
'Tab' is the word Groupy uses in the right-click menu, and we have the option to rename them. And we can save groups. So the tab names should be saved as part of the group. It's annoying to have to rename them every time I open the browser, if I want the same groups/names every time. 'Save' should save all the data, not just some of it. At least we should have that option.
Hello,I have forward your request to the Stardock Support Team for their review and recommendations. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We really do appreciate your feedback, Thanks

In addition to the tab saving...which is hella important for me as well, also, when you actually select the Rename Tab button and the dialog box comes up, once you rename it, you have to use your mouse to confirm. it would be great if we could use the "tab" key on the keyboard to tab over and select confirm.
I want to add a +1 to this request. So far Groupy has been great except for this one omission. The tab names really should be saved when saving the group. The renaming feature is pretty much useless if the names are not saved.

How would you expect this to work? Please provide an exact \ detailed example (apps, files, use cases).
Thanks.

It should work in the same way that saving any group currently works - that is, across all apps. If a group tab has been named or renamed, the save should capture the assigned tab name, so that when accessing the saved group the tab names are there. At the moment, the renaming of tabs only holds for the current session, when accessing the saved group the tab names are lost, which for me defeats the whole purpose of saving the group.
Personally if find this most annoying when using Groupy to save browser windows, where I might have several tabs named for open browser windows e.g. Work, Personal, Research... etc. Save the group, next time, names are lost, so the 'save' isn't really a 'save'.
Great app, except for this seemingly obvious omission. Thanks for giving this some attention.
But that is the thing, Groupy would have no way of knowing what is 'work' when a generic browser window is opened from a saved group. How would Groupy know any browser window is for any specific task?
well, maybe you have a login authentication with oauth? whereby each of my google chrome persona or instances are attached to a seperate gmail. that way at least each tab is authenticated and you an then allow for name assignment?
does that make any sense? I am just dangerous enough to have information that works...but i cant program!
I wouldn't expect Groupy to know what is contained in a browser window, but if I save a group with say 3 named tabs, then I would expect Groupy to open the saved group with those 3 named tabs and 3 windows of the app, because this is what was saved.
It's not just about the browser. If I save 3 explorer windows with named tabs, then I want to see the named tabs when I open the saved group.
If for some reason this is not possible then so be it, but I can't see why it should be a problem.
To be clear, you want three non-unique Explorer windows to have names that do not at all detail what is in them until you manually navigate to the location after they are open?
Yep, you can put it like that if you want.
What I want is when I save a group using the 'Save group' function, the name of tabs is saved also. Really doesn't seem like too much to ask.
yeah. i agree with that too.. they are placeholders for what folders we want.
i want the same thing for CHROME browsers with the personas!
When you use the "3-dot" icon and choose "Save group", Groupy saves the group to a file under "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Groupy". That file contains all of the information about the group. It should be easy for Groupy to save the Name of the tab along with the other tab information when saving the group to that file.
For example, here is what the contents of the group file look like. The lines highlighted in green were added by me as an example of how how you might save the tab name:
[Group] GroupCount=2GroupLeft=464 GroupTop=101 GroupRight=1298 GroupBottom=648 GroupMax=0 [GroupyEntry1] OwnerProcess=C:\Windows\explorer.exe RunElevated=0 Target="D:\FS\MSFS" MatchingClass=CabinetWClass Name="The name I chose for this tab when I chose the rename tab option in Groupy. If the tab was not renamed just use the default name like you already do" [GroupyEntry2] OwnerProcess=C:\Windows\explorer.exe RunElevated=0 Target="C:\Users\Don\AnotherFolder\Files\FS\MSFS" MatchingClass=CabinetWClass Name="Tab name for this tab"
Regards,Don
It's never been a programmatical issue, it's been one of practicality - opening up a generic tab, naming it with no relationship to what it opened, had us question its use cases.
That said, I have made the devs aware of the suggestion.

Thanks for the feedback.
This is in the bullet list for the next update:
Renamed tabs are now saved in the Groupy file
It still has to go through testing but...
Thank you for the feedback.
That's great news. Thanks!
awesome... and if possible, just default with all the text selected or just empty so we can type and not have to do "select all" then type... then instead of using the tab to get to the close button, just the return button should invoke a save. my 2 cents.
Yes, this is sensible, it fits with standard user expectations, and would be less irritating than how it currently works.
It will be added as well now.
Again, ty for the feedback.
Sean, I have to tell ya, first of all thank you for making these changes and for making a piece of software that fundamentally changes the way you organize your life. such a valuable piece of software.
I have an idea for 2 pieces of programming that was originally in the old MACOS, not sure if this is the right place to drop this info, but since i have your attention and it was such a great utility, thought you would be the right person First oneDefault Folder - in essence, move your cursor into a open explorer directory window when you are in a save dialog box... and boom... it jumps to that folder instead of burrowing into a folder, folder, folder, folder.... to save a file.
