Hello, I own the original game from 2008 and have not played it since about 2011. I have two primary questions.
Is there a way to move the game into the Steam platform or will I always launch it and play it on its own?
Is there any advantage to owning the original? I guess what I am asking is if the original is required to play the Rebellion expansion, or is that considered its own game? Is rebellion the most updated version of the game or is there a newer version? I see there are many expansions, but not really sure where those all fit in.
In summary, I really loved the original and thought I would like to play again, but was not sure where I should start. I was able to recover my software key and download the original game, but I did not want to do the actual install until I got some guidance. Thanks!
Same situation here. Thrilled after all of this time to have something I paid good money for in 2009 still work after 11 years. Bravo Stardock! I have exactly the same questions... I remember getting hooked on Stardock with Galciv. I don't remember a lot about this but being impressed, and I still am. People are still trying to copy this 11 years later, unsuccessfully (On the Steam Store) Look alikes everywhere, but no one beats Star Dock for story. I'll be interested to hear any response to you. Next stop will be seeing if they still use that intermediary software for game setup online.....
The original Sins has never been on Steam. Stardock allows those who registered the game to continue to download it from the Stardock store website.
Other than nostalgia, there's not much point in playing the original Sins. Rebellion has been out almost 8 years now, and it includes all the features from the original game, plus the Entrenchment and Diplomacy expansions, plus more original content like titans, subfactions, and victory conditions.
In addition, at this point the mods for Rebellion far and away eclipse the ones for older versions in quality.
In short, Rebellion is the version everyone is playing and most of the player base is at. Rebellion is a "stand alone" expansion, so you don't actually need any of the previous versions to play. At one point they were offering $10 discount on Rebellion if you already had Sins, but I think that expired, and you can get better deals on a steam sale anyways.

I think its definitely worth it. If you'd rather not pay the full $40 for a game that's a more advanced version of one you already have, put it on your steam wishlist and get it on the next sale.
We got a new "DLC" for Rebellion, Minor Factions, maybe a year and a half ago. No word on what the next thing might be for Sins yet unfortunately.
I too was impressed how easy it was to obtain and install a game that was over a decade old without jumping through any hoops.
I too am very happy I found this game was still active and runnable. I hate stepping away from gaming for so long... much of what I own isn't playable anymore... but Stardock comes through. One big question is... what is up with IronClad Online... I find almost no reference to it... or Impulse. Is it still a thing? Thanks
Impulse was bought from Stardock by Gamestop. They managed to run it into the ground, much like they're doing with their retail stores now.
Ironclad Online is the multiplayer functionality in Sins. Or at least it was - a recent update no longer specifically calls it that in Rebellion. But most people still call it that.
Not indeed, you just have a copy of the OG game by the developer. This garantees to you a not cheap or fake experience of the game.
