I have a few licenses on Start10 and have a question about transferring Start10 settings from 1 PC to another. Scenario:
I have installed 1 version (desktop PC) and configured it exactly how I want it (colours, etc.)Now, each next install I would like to have it exactly the same.
Right now, I have saved screenshots of each Start10 settings-panel and also the RGB colour codes.(Used a tool to establish the RGB colour codes) When setting up Start10 on VM or laptop I manually enter the codes and select the appropriate settings. Suggestions: 1.display the colour codes in the setup 2.have a kind settings backup, I think there is none right now and maybe some matters are stored within the registryIt would be nice to have export of the GUI: colours and settings and OPTIONALLY only(!) also the program settings. (If one is setting up Start10 on a clean PC, then transferring Start Menu program items is not applicable)
Example: I want to transfer the Start10 settings to my laptop (with a just installed, clean, Windows, i.e. without any applications yet)No idea whether this has been asked before, or is too complicated. Thanks.
Hello,I have forward your request to the Stardock Support Team for their review and recommendations. We really do appreciate your feedback.
Just a suggestion : You can change your Start menu using Windowblinds and adjust its color and save it using Skinstudios.
Thanks.BasjStardock Community Assistant.
All the Start10 setting are saved in the registry here : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Start8
The actual programs are stored on the hard drive as shortcuts so those would not be copied over, but the colours etc will be.
Thank you.
Frankly, I already did have a look there, but noticed sub folders in the Start8\Start8.ini key, such as NewShortcuts,Pinned,Recent, etc.
Wheras I am assuming that the actual interface changes (colours etc.) may be stored in Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8If I were to export the key from the 1st Start8 (the one immediately following \Stardock\) then I would include all the .lnk entries in the sub folders, whereas those applications are not yet present. Hence my confusion as to how Start10 would then be handling this...Remove the entries in the registry because the appliations aren't there? Empty 'sub folder' key?
Thanks again.
Hi wulffra,
I have the same question.
Did you solve the problem?
I want to upgrade from start8 to start10 but will not do it if I will need to spent time to configure all over again.
cheers
Start10 and Start8 share the same registry entries (well Start10 will have some additional ones). So if you are uninstalling Start8, rebooting and then installing Start10 it should be seamless.
Many thanks for the quick reply
