This past year we've been recruiting developers to begin doing some major updates to Object Desktop over the next year.
First, I'm going to post what our thoughts are on what to focus on but then we want to hear what you would like to see updated. As always, our choices are determined by a combination of factors including technical challenge and market demand.
Definitely getting big updates next year
Fences
CursorFX
SoundPackager
Keyboard LaunchPad
DeskScapes
New Apps
We have three new programs for Object Desktop slated for release next year
Maybe getting big updates IF there's demand
Multiplicity
Tiles
Start10
On the bubble (for getting major update)
WindowBlinds (usage of desktop skinning is becoming less common and skinning has gotten more and more complicated). What would go into v11?
IconPackager (making icons today is a lot of work due to resolution and most people don't bother changing them anymore)
What are your thoughts?
What do you use Object Desktop for and what sorts of things do you want to see updated as well as what new things do you think people would like to see?
Let us know in the comments area.
Hey guys, I have been a big fan here for awhile. I love my Windowblinds, my Start10, my Icon Packager and CursorFX. I am a big fan of customizing my monitor! I sometimes reset my monitor 2-3 times a week. I'm a great fan of all you guys hard work. For myself, I was wondering why I need to disconnect CursorFX when I play my Sims games. Sims 4 does not work with CursorFX on. But that's just me, and a very small problem. I also still love the fun of putting Rainmeter on, especially the neat clocks. Almost forgot---big fan of Winstep!!!
Thanks for all you do!!!
couldn't say..
I do know that the last time I used IP that it was a known issue at that time. Never tried it again after that as I had to wipe my system to fix the issue.
Glad to hear it's ok now
Whilst the app changed (due to loss of developer), the skinning format remained exactly the same. I would be interested in knowing what the change was exactly that caused the most issues.
I use:
Groupy (limited to file explorer atm)
Cursorfx - Like, but still learning. I use icofx to convert pngs to icons, pretty easy.
Deskscapes - Must have!
Start10 - Irreplaceable
Please keep Windowblinds! Work on the skinner, I'd love to give skinning a try.
Windowfx is also very nice.
I like Fences, but using it totally slows my system down.
I think my personal priority is Deskscapes. One improvement I'd like to see is being able to have different wallpapers on different virtual desktops in Windows.
I'm a major modder too. Windows should not be boring.
In the majority of my reading i have seen most use WB. Myself included. i go back to styleXP. Themimg OS has always been in my cards. Stock Stinks! Hence why we are here now. Skinning! The more platforms to skin the merrier..
Windowsblinds
Deskscapes
Cursor FX
Objectdock
How hard would it be to make an app that reads your desktop icons and lets you size them individually?
I use
- Start10 (A must! Too bad MS doesn't use it as a built-in alternative!
- Groupy
- Fences. Best thing since sliced bread! But, please add the following:
-- A simple way, like double click to hide/show, to make fences show on top of all other windows/hide behind them. Needs to be easily accessible even when whole screen area is covered by other windows.
-- A "copy fence to this page" property. Like "make fence visible on all pages" but with the pages where the fence shows up selectable. Even a simple "Copy Fence" would be a step in the right direction!

Dang.
I'm gonna go off the deep end here and guess that you like to read?

shit
Quoting seems a bit wonky. Maybe it's just me.
(Enter Doc to say yes, stumphumper, it's just you.)
Are you kidding?? There are tons of options out there and morally corrupt sharing competitive products in Stardock forum.
I love Start10!!. Please continue to update it!
Hi everyone!
The Windowblinds was and still is the best and the most popular Stardock product in the world, it is a pity and a shame a mother not to support her best and most famous child..."Skinning is becoming less common" you say Brad, but not for the reasons you may think, I will just point out few words about it, not a huge analysis.
When skinning is started with Windows XP three skinning options, (blue, silver and olive) people wanted more and better... skinning had a lot of success...Now Windows 10 has the new very popular and beautiful flat design, people can't find here at Wincustomize what they are looking anymore, there for less interest... and skinning became less common...
I know that many of you here at Wincustomize forums may not agree, but this is a long story that I am not going to start... or to go on."Like" or "don't like" is an endless conversation with no results, numbers though, are a reality that everybody agree, let's say for example, numbers of people who buying Windowblinds, numbers of visits at Wincustomize and finally numbers of downloads...
I am still supporting Windowblinds as much as I can, I hope you will be supporting it too.
Be well my friends!
I use deskscapes constantly on my 3 monitors. I cut 10min clips of some ambiance vids for my wallpapers.
One thing I'd really like to see is a monitor identify function. Deskscapes numbering system doesn't match my display settings system.
btw, the switch for Chrome + WB is --disable-windows10-custom-titlebar
I will support it till I no no longer can. That time is coming way to quickly for me. I have several WB's that I made a year and months ago. I will be uploading from time to time just not going to flood the site with them all at once. Mentioned before I can no longer make a new one. But I can still check the ones I have done. Truly sorry as I'm sure I said some of this a few times in the recent past. Think it's my way to just remind people here how much I loved all their support and Thank you. Also my memory is jumping around.
I also agree this could be a debate for a life time with no actual solution. I do like to see it pop up because it also shows there is still a lot of Love for WB and WC.
I agree 100% also!
I look forward to seeing your new work. Do you post them at Wincustomize, and if so what's you name there?
Icon Packager should be extended to be able to change the icons in the original windows startmenu. THAT would have some potential. Also, why not let the customer use PNGs (in satisfying resolutions of course) and let IP take care of the conversion? There is so much potential still left in changing Windows 10. I think the visions and ideas just left. That new touch thing doesn't make any sense for my workflow and hardware (Windows Laptop and Android tablet/phone), so I don't use it.Groupy for example is a good idea, unfortunately it doesn't work as I want it to half of the time on my rig (can't get explorer to tab). And I just don't have the time to do testing-work with stardock anymore. I reached an age where I just want software to work.
I make intense use of darkmode on Win 10, unfortunately WindowBlinds breaks it. And the list goes on.
I've been around since MS-DOS days and then enjoyed the pioneering era of Windows cosmetic customization when 'look & feel' were fun to play around with. But today it's a lot more about productivity for me and for most users I know. So a big thumbs-up for ongoing development of 'Fences'. It's been up there with 'Workflowy' and 'Trello' as one of the major factors in my having an optimized working environment. If 'Fences' continues to improve, so will that working environment in functional terms, rather than any of the now irrelevant cosmetics. (Who cares about changing icons these days!) So, in general, I'd see the way forward for Object Desktop as being more about the productivity-enhancing features and a lot less about 'look & feel' on a superficial level. Keep up the good work!
My MUST haves:
Windowblinds
Icon Packager
SkinStudio
DeskScapes (when it works)
Win FX
Logon Studio
