So it seems Galciv 3 got the 'Spiffing Brit' treatment - basically finds an exploit and just breaks the game with it. As it happens the exploit seems to rely more on breaking the game by slowing the game right down, rather than exploiting some dodgy/leaky game mechanics, so that's gotta be a positive!
I'd be interested to hear what the devs make of it?

Heh, yeah seen this one. Not sure if the exploit he uses is really that big of a deal though. Obviously people can cheat and find exploits if they want. Just look at any speedruns. If this was more of a core gameplay bug we'd want to look at it though.
Can't be bothered to watch 32 minutes of video and several ads just to see what the fuzz is about (I honestly can't understand how anyone can but I'm grateful I can ask someone who's made the sacrifice).
I'm of course curious though, what's the exploit?
Starbase module duplicate through upgrading them during end turn phase. The game will lag a bit during that so if you spam click on the module, it will duplicate those upgrade module. The effect also stack.
Thanks! I've read about that one actually. Always amazes me how some people will use those kind if exploits, might as well use cheat mode instead if that's your thing.
Balancing the game and correcting things like the Consulate giving tourism bonus is worthwhile for the devs to put time on (which they obviously did), fixing those kind of exploits doesn't feel like it should be a priority.
I've seen that, and just don't do it. There is no point to playing at all if I feel the need to cheat to win, in a single player game.
Wow that video maker thinks a lot about himself, holy shit- 15 minutes of the start are about NOTHING but his attempts at humor! And that attempt doesn't even leave the ground.
He must be really fun at a party...
G'bye...
Wait I take that back. Just went to the video end and he was STILL AT IT... ugh. What a bore. 32 minutes of stuffed shirt.
To be fair, most of people don't watch his video beacuse of the exploit or flaw in the game he is showing. They go for his dry humour about tea and british stuff. Oh right, you don't get paid if your video is shorter than 10 minutes which is why most people attempting their best to stretch their video out to 10 minutes mark or more.
*He made a new video dubbed as "Unlimited Money Exploit". Another almost 30 minutes where he doing the exactly same damn thing like the first one but now he just duplicate the starbase market module so it skyrocket his economy. If you aren't interested in his humour then I saved your time to watch 27:45 minutes video where it could be done within a minute.
Now I feel sorry for him, actually... if he has that sort of time and inclination...
Finding bugs and exploits are key to making solid games, and also part of the joy of computing.
It's up to Stardock now to see if they decide to fix it or not, we win either way
Personally I don't see the point of fixing this particular exploit. Exploits are in every game and are often a big part of the speedrun scene. If it was something that was more mainstream in the gameplay loop or game breaking I think we would look into it. This exploit though is really only going to be used by people who want to cheat and if they choose to do that in a single player experience that's perfectly fine. Play the game your way.
Also: In theory as computers get more powerful this exploit will be less and less.. exploitable. Even in the video the guy is deliberately running the game at settings too great for his machine in order to make the exploit easier to achieve.
Right. Nobody would attempt any action once they hit "End Turn". This kind of exploit require you to went out of your way to do it and it is not a sure fire way to work. See Spiff need to keep saving his game before he trying this because the upgrade is free but sometime it cost. In the video, it happened and it drop his treasury into negative. GC3 has a lot of exploits but Stardock ironing most of the obvious one out and only left with extraordinary one that you not going to see it happen if you are playing normally.
