Are there any open source skins/themes that I can modify and redistribute? Thanks.
Hm... I T H I N K "Diamond" by Stardock that comes with WB is like the "Start off" skin- to use... Somebody from Stardock should have the final say in this though
Yes, I think what neone6 is true. Diamond is "Start off" skin. Something you can learn from. I advice you not to modify and redistribute it. If you need to redistribute you will need to build your own theme. You shouldn't take any theme and add a logo or make a small change and redistribute it as your own.
But, that is just what I think, I have forwarded your questions to the Stardock Support team for their input on this. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate patience.
Thank You,BasjStardock Community Assistant.
I meant specifically skins released (by whomever, not just Stardock) under a Creative Commons license, or something similar.
No.
But, the Diamond skin is redistributable providing you swap in your own graphics and rename, of course. In other words, you can use Diamond as a template, just be certain to replace all graphics with your own work.
Yup, what I said.
As said above Reply 4. NO.
no such thing here as a "Creative Commons License".
Can't even believe you even asked this question. There aren't many WindowBlind skinners left here. So you think it's ok to take one of my or other peoples 80 hour skin or more, spend 5 or 10 hours changing a few things, renaming it and uploading it as your own. Totally NO.
BTW: Before one completely knows how to make a full complete skin they can spend over a 100 hours on one.
Well said Dave!
Creative Commons is a voluntary thing. You as an artist/author release your own work under this license; no one forces you to.

It's pretty common. Wikipedia uses this license, for instance. There are supposedly some 15 million CC projects on DeviantArt. I use CC or GPL for most of my projects
Anyway, I would consider buying a skin, but I haven't seen anything I really like yet, except "Modern". And most of the third-party skins are not quite up to the level of being worth spending money on, IMO.
Creative Commons licenses require licensees to get permission to do any of the things with a work that the law reserves exclusively to a licensor and that the license does not expressly allow. Licensees must credit the licensor, keep copyright notices intact on all copies of the work, and link to the license from copies of the work.
https://creativecommons.org/licenses
You still need PERMISSION from the author.
Wow, now you're REALLY working hard to get popular around here, aren't you ??
RIGHT!?
Mikali, I think that coming to this forum and acting the way you are is wrong. Who do you think you are? The creators of the Windowblinds here work hard at their craft. Many of them are Masters. You expect something for nothing and then you belittle the creators. You need a attitude adjustment.
Mikali, I don't see any skins in your library. Why don't you make a few worthy of paying for? I'm sure most of us would be more polite than you have been here.
Voluntarily releasing a skin or two with a license that allows redistribution (with credit) might aslo be a way of getting a new generation of skinners in the game. It doesn't take awya from the work a skinner and it doesn't allow a new skinner to take credit for work they didn't do.I don't see teh harm.
(I do see harm in treating a reasonable question/questioner as a pariah . . but I'm just an old lurker, riht?)
Nice to see you still have that old zubish keyboard, Aaron!
With you guys' attitude to what has become an important social movement (Free and Open Source Software/Artwork) across the world over the last decade, no wonder you cannot attract more skinners!
Anyway, I like FOSS, but do not object to paid software when it's a good value such as Stardock's software. But taste is subjective, and I do not feel this way about the skins on this site, nor do I have to.
A man's character may be learned from the adjectives which he habitually uses in conversation....Mark Twain.
Anyway, I don't want to work with such morons. Bye!

That is not a problem because with your attitude no one will want to work with you either. You come across as a know-it-all who thinks he is better than anyone else and that is unfortunate but not surprising, the world is full of know-it-alls that do not want to listen to people who really know what they are talking about.
Look who's calling the "kettle black"! Don't let the door hit you in the butt, as you leave, it looks as if we hurt his/her feelings!
Don't forget to take your; "Social movement of Free and Open Source Software/Artwork"......with you when you leave!
