Maybe I'm missing something, I cannot group my Chrome browser windows using Groupy. Does Groupy support Chrome? Is there any special setting I have to set to make this work?
We are investigating to see if there is anything we can do to workaround this.
Thank you
Fingers crossed!
We should not have to do the work! Stardock Should... it's their problem to fix ... and i hope they don't let their subscribers down. Otherwise why would we use them again for other products?
I do believe, I have mentioned in your other thread that a workaround is currently in the works for it.
Thank you,
BasjStardock Community Assistant.
Basj.... by the way, it's not just a Chrome/ google problem ... other programs that I am utilizing that are not browser dependent do not group like they used to before. So it's not just google/chrome that is the issue!
Please list down those other programs that is not grouping, so we can look into it.
We are not aware of other products not based on the Chrome engine which are having the same problem. If you have others please do report but it will be unrelated to this problem.
Ultimately Google chose to sandbox their process to prevent other applications extending it. This is their choice, but the consequences of this are they become incompatible with other things and this is on them.
We are looking at a possible workaround which whilst not as good as what we had before for Chrome, will allow Chrome to be allowed to group.

Neil, to be fair I don't know that just telling your customers to go to Google is going to be the best route for either side. I think it's reasonable to assume that most customers aren't going to report this issue in the forums and instead will assume that it's a bug in Groupy.
Seeing as Chrome is the most popular browser, that's potentially a good chunk of your user base who might see Groupy as being the problem, fair or not.
I would think that Stardock would have better success getting Google's attention anyway. A software developer might get a quicker response than a single user would.
This issue with Chrome also seems to affect Tiles as well: https://forums.stardock.com/497352/page/1/#3763075
Edit: Just saw sdRohan's post above. Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately results are far more likely to be obtained if large numbers of customers complain than a software developer. It is simply a numbers game.
That said on our test boxes here Chrome seems to have reverted back to its previous behaviour here of letting Groupy (and tiles) work with it. If you close all instances of Chrome and then restart it you may find it is now working again.
Perhaps someone has reminded Google that they do not own the PC Chrome runs on and if they choose not to work with others then perhaps the users will choose not to use them...
This same problem just happened to me with the Brave browser - it's been working with Groupy until I updated Brave today, and now it's stopped working. MS Edge browser is fine.
BTW Brave uses the core Chrome browser engine.
There may be an update to Brave which resolves this, but if not the upcoming 1.3 release of Groupy is being designed with a workaround for applications which do not want to play nice with other things on your computer. I should caution that those apps which run using a workaround may not work as well with Groupy as those which do not need to however as otherwise we would always use the workaround method
I would recommend letting the Brave developers know they have broken this however so they can consider releasing an update sooner.
In testing here this afternoon it looks like Chrome may have reverted to more sensible behaviour so there is a good chance other browsers using the same code base will too. This does rather demonstrate the dangers of letting one company control much of the code however, one silly move and all the browsers copy it
Chrome is no longer working with Groupy here - I haven't used Chrome in a month or two, because I now use Brave instead, but when I started up the old version of Chrome just now, it worked OK with Groupy. When I went to check the Chrome version, it auto-updated to Version 78.0.3904.70 (Official Build) (64-bit), and this no longer works with Groupy - so it looks like the core of the latest version of Chrome is no longer compatible. I also checked the new Microsoft Edge Version 79.0.308.1 (Official build) dev (64-bit) , which is also based on the Chromium open source project (looks like a slightly later version), and that doesn't work with Groupy either.
Firefox works fine with Groupy.
This is really annoying, I'd got used to using Groupy with Brave...
Updated:
That link seems borked. It takes me to a 'nuked' post message...
That link seems nuked, is there a work around or should we wait for an update?
Fixed the link issue. Basically Chrome should be happy again as Google rolled back something, Brave and edge beta are not currently but might be in future updates but either way the Groupy 1.3 update will contain a workaround for if they decide to sandbox them entirely again.
I can confirm that Chrome now docks OK here, but not Brave or the MS Edge Beta..
Chrome is now grouping again for me.
Both MS Edge Beta and the Brave browser have been updated and are working with Groupy again.
Hi,
Groupy is not working for google chrome. I have tried the following:
(i) https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1343324175/Saved+groups+with+Chrome%2FEdge+will+not+have+Chrome%2FEdge+open+or+opens+outside+of+the+group.
(ii) always group windows when moved on top of one another

I am using windows 10 - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FcF4vEf4RDcaqkXNgwVRcPQKIQRwKE1a/view?usp=drivesdk
Any other suggestions?

Hi Basj,
I opened my group in notepad, but cannot find the line “CommandLine=” line.
Can I send you my group to show you?
