I'm in the same boat. I like having fences as it gives me quick access to folders I selected, but not being able to arrange my desktop icons (those that i've chosen not to place within a fence) in any way that I choose. I would be able to deal with it if auto-arrange wasn't completely random. If I arrange by type, like items do not arrange next to each other. For example, multiple .xlsx files I would expect to arrange alphabetically next to each other. This does not happen at all.
I've recently bought this software and am about ready to abandon it and chock it to a loss since I not allowed to use a core function of windows.
Would love this in particular.
As an option for individual fences, having a fence roll over open windows would be very useful; Windows often hide the fence one is trying to drop icons into.

I like these ideas, especially 2, 3, 5, 8 and 9.
As well as Fences sometimes allowing icons dropped on a fence to wierdly fall through onto the desktop where it gets lost forever, sometimes grabbing an icon from a fence actually picks up an icon from the desktop and results are not as expected. I am using a modern i7 machine and it still does this far too often.
Also - Fences BADLY NEEDS, badly badly needs, a detailed search system where the icon/file is located in both a fence and the desktop - I have maybe 100 fences over 8 desktops on 3 screens - finding a lost file can take an hour. I usually resort to opening the desktop in explorer which is not a nice thing to do.

1 Snapping Fences so they line up nicely with each other does work, but only just. The gaps between the fences vary more than can be explained by rounding errors; roll up fences will not snap closely to the position of fixed fences or other roll up fences, and will jump consistently many millimetres and misbehave when trying to position them in a neat row or column.
2 When scaling icons with ctrl-wheel the behaviour is inconsistent - sometimes it changes only the icons in a fence, sometimes several fences but not all, and I have not quite worked out what is does for portals. Some strange combination, I think. Probably should be done by fence.
3 ICON SELECTION is pants. Selecting a few icons in a fence sometimes end up selecting a portion of the whole desktop area which can cause iconic chaos and loss of composure. Selection rules and means both need attention.
4 The ability to select a set of fences and move them to a different desktop would be useful.

so let me explain my situation and see if someone can suggest a workaround.I have my archives all going to a particular fence. My folders to another. If i extract an archive to a folder from within a fence, it goes to the desktop, then the proper folder-fence. this wouldnt be too big of an annoyance except the folder that appears for a few seconds on the desktop goes right behind an existing fence.. Would be awesome if it just circumvented the desktop all together and went to the folder-fence but I'm assuming this isnt gonna be able to be made possible.Of course i can move those fences off to the right side of the desktop, but id prefer them on the left.Any reasonable way i can circumvent this?
Please can we have all fences able to have items viewed in "list & Large Lists" like folder portal.
Thank you
They don't seem to be getting THE MESSAGE, or, simply DO NOT CARE...until they get hit int he pocketbook. No matter how good the product, customer relations with users, is primary. Defy that and they'll go the way so many once big organizations have-- into obscurity.
Too bad. They don't even seem to be interested in the feedback forum either. Tch Tch. Who are these folks anyhow? Where are they?
They are in Michigan, 15090 Beck Rd, Plymouth.
Nested Fences! I myself do some development and to be able to have my repos folder and development tools in two different fences, but being grouped within one common fence
How anyone can think starting such a thread in Dec. 2018 and let it go for more than 15 months now without any further notice is a good business model is really beyond me.
I have requested Microsoft to create their own version of FENCES as a built in feature.
I think everyone here should do the same since these guys are not responding.
Good idea. Please provide a link to your suggestion so we can vote for it.
Yes, provide link - I add my vote.

That's the reason why I quit Stardock long time ago. They do something. You spend money on it and nothing will be developed any further.
Hi all,
Newbie here testing some software.
Sorry if this has been posted already.
When using pages in Fences i think it would be great to have a different screen background per page to easier identify what page you're in.
Also, say i need to share my screen on a presentation, i would rather prefer a different background to my primary, gaming, etc pages
I'm not a big fun of virtual desktops, but maybe that would be another workaround.
Thanks in advace
Ability to sync fences across desktops (ie, desktop pc and latop pc)
Hi!
I was experimenting with Cairo shell extension and see that it have to offer anything for Fences.
It has desktop overlay where is possible to show folder and navigate by button:
It will be useful to add to folder portals at least home and folder button of whole.
By folder button is easier way to show different folder instead of folder portals right click and selection. Also home button can go back to selected folder in Fences menu. And after login/reboot always show home folder... whole button can be displayed for example at right corner of Fences folder portal label.
I see that Fences have this thread long time and no one replies to requests, so this thread looks dead. But I hope anytime will somebody look at.
Add the ability to easily select all or several (via ctrl click) FENCES at the same time so they can be easily dragged to an alternate monitor or display location.
Hi,
I'm in my period of 30 days testing software right now. Something really annoying i noticed when using the fences with auto roll-up activated is that hovering the mouse over the label display the content of the box IMMEDIATELY. There is no way to configure some sort of delay, even imperceptible, that would let us cross the label with the mouse without activating it.
Right now, every time we close a window and drag the mouse from top of desktop to the bottom taskbar, if we cross several labels rolled-up, it's a firework of fences rolling down and up consecutively. It makes the experience quite frustrating when the whole purpose of the software is precisely to clean the desktop and make it practical and enjoyable to look at. Instead, I have to make sure to avoid the fences with my mouse every time i'm on the desktop as if i'm playing minesweeper. That's not a nice feeling at all. (and yes, we can double click hide them, or move the fences to side desktop, but it's not optimal)
Here is a gif to illustrate :
A solution for that would be to have an activation delay of the rolled-up fences, so it only activates when the mouse stops on it, even for an extremely short amount of time, like 0.3 sec. That would fix almost all the cases of unintentional fences rolling down and up when mouse is continuously moving across the desktop. Or even better for us : make that feature optional and let us configure the time we prefer between the cursor stop and the activation of the fence rolled up (the sweet spot should be between 0.2 and 0.5 sec of delay).
That alone would pretty much make the software perfect in my eyes. Thank you for your attention.
