Hi
I'm trialing groupy and am wondering if there is a way to change the name of a tab when grouped for better management. Each month I have a minimum of 6 explorer folders open and am moving files from a main folder to 5 others in preparing for some data processing. Each open tab is a territory and as you can see from the screenshot...the name of the tab is the same based on the string...the actual folder name is all the way to the right and not visible. Is there a way to rename for viewing purposes only?
I don't want to have to click into each tab to see the full path...it is more productive to just look at the tab names and select the one I need.

Hello,
At this moment that is not possible. But, I have forwarded your request to the Stardock support team for their review and recommendations. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We really do appreciate your feedback, Thanks.

Can we get an update on this feature? It would be very helpful.
It was forwarded to support reply #1, no update at this time .
This is very disappointing. Had I known this I would not have purchased. Please add this feature like in Clover.
I am also disappointed that after a year this has not been a feature considered to be feature-rich and productive enough to add. I gave up and found a great little app called Tidytabs.
I would also like this feature. Please add it!
I too am very disappointed that tabs cannot be renamed. I just bought this software for the sole purpose of adding tabs to File Explorer. It is useless to me if I can't see the folder name on the tab. Thanks those of you who suggested alternative software!
Totally agree...this is why i'm so upset. I bought this as well...and without the ability to do this it was wasted money and is a useless tool. Check out TidyTabs....you can rename the tabs when you have multiple explorer tabs open.

I assume the primary cause of the issue in explorer is using the explorer setting to show a full path in the titlebar as otherwise the folder names would typically fit on a tab already.
It is worth noting that Groupy has a variable tab length setting under More settings on the Visuals page which gives each tab more space for the name if needed.
Now regarding the renaming tabs thing, what exactly is the expected use case? Are people looking to rename a tab but only until you close that window, or are people thinking a window named X would be renamed to Y always when grouped even after rebooting?
We can add features, but we need to know what people are expecting from the feature and why they need it.
I use TidyTabs in my job because of its functionality to rename a tab. The functionality for me that is a deal breaker to not use Groupy is the ability to have multiple explorer windows open and renaming each window for my purposes
Here is a real world example of how I use this in my work situation. Each month I have files that I need to move from specific folders to another folder on a server that a piece of software is pointed to for running a monthly process.
In this example I have 5 territory folders open in explorer windows. Prior to using TidyTabs I would have to open 5 individual windows and position them on the monitor visibly...with grouping and the ability to rename the tabs...it visually looks like one window and I just select the tab I need to move my file to. This has been a huge time saver by being able to rename the tabs.
I've attached a screenshot of what I'm talking about after the explorer windows are grouped and renamed
First image is what the tab looks like - + sign allows you to add a new tab to the group
Next are windows I've opened and added to my working group. Double-clicking a tab allows you to rename it.
Not having the ability to change the name of a tabbed in a grouped environment is not productive and just does not make sense for the user to not have that ability. This allows for me to have all the explorer windows in one group and I simply select the tab I need to obtain my files.
I was very excited when I saw that Stardock created Groupy, but quickly was disappointed because without this critical feature the application is useless to the user. As the user speaking to the developer - I need this capability to be productive. It is a key feature and without it, I have to put Groupy to the side and continue to use TidyTabs as my go to software to continue to maintain productivity.
Really want this too - I'm not upset or gonna kill myself in it's absence tho
This was a dealbreaker for me too. Ended up finding TidyTabs a year or so ago and I use the renaming daily. The UI isn't quite good as Groupy, but it seems to get regular updates unlike Groupy. Seems as if Stardock is spread too thin with too many apps to maintain.
Other than renaming what exactly where you looking for with updates?
We issue updates when updates are needed either due to bugs or because we feel there is a feature our customers would like to have and given the release version is 1.25 you can see we have released updates for groupy which add in new features, fix bugs etc.
With regards to renaming, this is something we hope to have an initial version of in the next update assuming QA pass it.
EDIT: Foot in mouth moment, apparently This was added in and I totally missed it. Thanks for adding it in!
Just a signal boost and to put my wanted use case in the narrative:
I (want to) use groupy to have tabs of chrome Tabs so I can have tabbed windows based on what that window is for. An example would be having one tab of Email Tabs, Project Tab, School Tab, ect. Since it takes the name of the Chrome tab it can be hard to tell what the group is for, and since it changes when you change Chrome tab.I'll include a picture, please excuse the quality, I'm not an artist.
As far as my use case goes, persistence of the tab names isn't important, just need a way to label a group as it's created.
This is pretty much the only thing Groupy is missing for my workflow so otherwise I think it's a great piece of software.
Thanks!
