The game will not launch for me. All OTHER games I have, do. When launching a NEW GAME, it displays the yellow space ship screen for a couple seconds than bombs out to my desktop. This is the 5th time, and about 2 hours spent trying to get it to work.
What I've tried?
1. Uninstalling and reinstalling the game
2. Clearing download cache in Steam
3. Uninstalling/Reinstalling Steam
4. Rebooted, a lot.
I have updated video drivers, a GeForce GTX 1080 and a Core i7-7700k CPU.
I'd of hoped you folks at Stardock would have tested this game before launch, because it certainly doesn't seem like it to me.
Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having trouble.
While it can take some time, going through this is going to help us a lot if you still have issues after:https://forums.starcontrol.com/491043/star-control-origins-support-faq
Please to let me know, I'll keep an eye on your thread.

Pretty much same here, unless the launcher is called the game has crashed.
I don't get anywhere, not even a loading screen.
The steps in the FAQ have not helped.
I have been able to enter the game but get random crashes constantly. I have not been able to string together more than a few minutes at a time; however, once a "zone or encounter is loaded it doesn't crash, it crashes when I switch (space to conversation, hyperspace to real space, etc.)
None of the support items have worked so far.
Do you guys by chance have virtual memory disabled (your swap file as we used to call it)?
Another thing to try, especially if you had previous fleet battle betas installed...
In your My Documents folder, you should see a My Games folder. In there you should see a Star Control Folder, delete the settings.ini file that you find in there and try starting the game again. -- I know it sounds weird but it has worked for a few others so far.
Nope, virtual memory is on
If you would, and immediately after a crash, we would like to see what's in your runlog.txt located:
\Documents\My Games\Star Control
If you could upload it to a cloud service (DropBox, Google Drive, One Drive, Paste Bin) and post a link here, we will look at it straight away.
Thanks for your patience and patronage.

I took a look at the event log after posting and I did have a Resrouce-Exhaustion-Detector event stating the system ran out of virtual memory. I had a hard limit on the page size which I removed. I haven't had an issue since but I will post back if I do.
Very interesting and thank you for the feedback. Out of curiosity, what limit did you have it set to?
Hi Guys,
I have a "Crash on startup" problem to report. I managed to find a solution too.
I did not have my documents folder mapped to the default path "C:\Users\ * \Documents", and then the game failed to generate the folder or files under "My Games". No settings.ini or error logs etc.
In my case this was resolved by resetting the path to default. Maybe add this to the troubleshooter and/or look into why. Please PM me if I can help further.
Still not had any luck with any solutions posted so far.
i5-2500k
8GB RAM
Radeon R9 380 with Radeon software updated to 18.9.2
Sorry to hear about that. I'll ask the engineers to put a check in for that.
Have you verified your steam files?
Yes, did a complete reinstall, plus other steps from the faq.
You said in a prior post:
But did you try the Purge option (not the most fun as it means nuking everything and redownloading).
Its the last item here:

Here is my runlog.txt: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1i1pjCP25hGBRNPoXsKgbtO95uEmWrwCp/view?usp=sharing
A few seconds after launching a New Game, my screen goes black. All I can do is task manager out.
Excellent, rsomazzi, thank you. I want you to do a verify of the game files:
If that fails, I want you to go to:
\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Control - Origins\Assets\Models
Delete the folder: DanNath
Then do a verify again, then try to run the game. If it fails again, post another runlog for me.
Thanks for your patience here.
That did not work. Followed each step.

The game is working now. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it in a completely new location, on a separate drive even (probably not necessary but what the hell...) I can start a new game and finally play.
Perhaps I spoke to soon. Saving a match, changing the resolution to 4k, exiting, and restarting/ loading the save game from before (to apply changes) is causing a crash to desktop.
I'm disappointed to say the least. I shouldn't have to pay for games so buggy a first year software tester could catch issues like this on their first day.
Good to hear! Sorry it was so difficult to get it installed! Thanks for hanging in there!
Please read my new post. The game is NOT working. I made it further but am just running into more problems.
This same exact behavior happens to me as well, it has been like that from the beginning. Any click on the Save/Load button causes the game to crash to desktop.
I have tried all the steps mentioned in the FAQ like rsomazzi and nothing resolved the issue.
Game crashes at every time on start of new game in menu....
Error_Tread.txt file in game folder "Star Control - Origins\Game\" indicates
Failed to read texture file: ../Assets/Models/####
the texture file varies from crash to crash...I've got about 30 files with varied texture read errors
found SDCR32.ini and created temp path ...Star Control - Origins\Game\Stardock\gameLauncher\ as it didnt exist.
now I only receive:
D:\BuildM_SCO_MainStage\Main_Stage\Cider\Remoting\Src\TcpServer.h Line: 96
An error occurred while attempting to determine the IP address of the TCP Server's socket for accepting connections: 126
For reference:
I've reinstalled on SSD and also move install folder to HDD and verified via steam twice, no effect on startup crash.
c:\Users\######\Documents\My Games\Star Control\ and other files was cleaned prior to install and files seems ok.
