Every time I return to the Windows Desktop using the Windows+D shortcut, Fences seems to close and restart. How can I prevent this? With Fences enabled, using the Windows+D shortcut to return to the desktop causes the fences to disappear, the icons disappear, my task bar to clear, my icons return, the task bar returns, and then the fences return too. The process takes about 4 seconds. With fences disabled, using the Windows+D shortcut takes only a small fraction of a second to return me to the desktop. This occurs with both Fences 2 (2.12?) and 3 (just d/l today 17Sep18). Windows 10. Video - https://youtu.be/LKfI-HsqurI
Hello,
---------------------**NOTE***: Fences 1 & 2 is not supported for the Windows 10 Creators Update. If your efforts are to get Fences to work with this update, you need Fences 3:
https://www.stardock.com/products/fences/download.asp
A link at the bottom is for prior Fences owner discounts.
If you do have Fences 3, please continue with the below instructions.
-------------------
The following tool will purge the application (your settings and layout will be preserved).
**IMPORTANT** Please save any open documents/work and close out all of your applications including browsers. Your PC may restart after running this .bat file.
Please follow this link:
http://sd.stardock.com/zubaz/apps/Purge_Fences.bat
Save the file to your desktop, right click it and select "Run as Administrator" if you're on Vista/7/8/8.1/10

If you are running Windows 8/10, you may be notified that Windows is protecting your PC. Select "More info" and then "Run anyway".
Reboot the computer and reinstall the application.
For Stardock Direct Purchases:
Note: It is important to get the most recent version of the application. For getting your product and key, please see the following:
https://www.stardock.com/support/productkeyretrieval
For Steam Purchases:Install from Steam and Steam only.
Please DO NOT change any of the default settings until you verify that the application is running as expected in its default state.
Restoring a prior Fences Snapshot:
Its IMPORTANT to ensure, after the purge and reinstall, that Fences is working as it should be. Please create a few new Fences manually, drag icons to them, make sure that your issue is indeed gone.
If Fences is indeed working as expected, please try restoring a previous snapshot:
-Right click on the desktop and select "Configure Fences..."-Click on "Layout and snapping" on the left hand side of the configuration window that appears.-Select a snapshot you wish to revert to. A preview window will appear showing you what the desktop will look like. -Click Restore Snapshot to revert the desktop to this preview.
Again, test to make sure it is working as expected.
Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.
No dice. Still not functioning as expected.
I purged, reinstalled, created new "Test" fence and added two icons to it. Win+D. Screen flashes exactly as in the youtube video linked in original post. The behavior seems similar to when explorer.exe crashed on Win7 but I haven't had that problem (that I remember) since Win10 came around.
Disabled fences, tried Win+D again. No problems.
Is this a work PC? You using WebSense / Forcepoint?

Work. ForcePoint.
Then that is the issue. ForcePoint will (and is well documented in other threads) interfere with Fences working properly in the fashion you mentioned (and why I asked it straight away).
My IT isn't going to troubleshoot an incompatibility between a personal software I brought in and a security software they require.
I take it Stardock is not actively trying to resolve this issue.
Has anyone else had any luck reaching out to Forcepoint/Websense directly?
Hey Guys,
I think I have found a solution that works for me.
Instead of using Win+D to show desktop, use Win+M(minimize-all-in-win10).
This solves the problem that is fences restarts, redraws everytime show-desktop.
I used ahk to remap Win+D, to Win+M, which makes life easier.

Hope this is useful for others with same issue too.
Thanks for fences, its really useful to keep a clean organized desktop!
Thanks,
