I had to reinstall window and let windows update. When I installed Start10 I no longer use search to open items in the new settings menu. For example when I use the search in Start10 Check for updates and I click on the that item in the search I get the following error:
[Window Title]C:\Users\turk\Start10Ctrlpnl\AAA_SystemSettings_MusUpdate_UpdateActionButton.settingcontent-ms[Content]Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.[OK]
I could have sworn this didn't do that before I had to reinstall windows. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
While we are looking at this internally, have you tried any of the work-arounds well documented in the prior posts?

You are most welcome.
You can see that it would work for any service you want to start and stop at will...
To be clear about Windows 10 having changed short cuts, post Windows 10 update 1803 my Start10 search can't find many programs that aren't windows things, for example Substance Designer, any of the LibreOffice programs, OBS, Quixel Suite, xNormal, etc.
Is this consistent with the culprit suggested here?

I've gone through all of those steps when I reported this issue the previous time in June, and it took reinstalling a pre 1803 Windows 10 to fix this. https://forums.stardock.com/489574/page/1/#replies
Anyways, I can confirm that all of those boxes are still checked. The problem instantly reoccurred when Windows 10 forced the 1803 update again. Unfortunately, reinstalling an out of date version of Windows every time the OS forces me to upgrade isn't a viable long term solution.
Reinstalling an older version Windows is not a solution. Stardock will have to fix Start10 to be compatible with Windows 10 1803. I'm sure they will as they have done in the past. Hopefully sooner than later.
I sent a few of you a private build to test. Please check your forum inbox to see if you have a link.

Specifically _which_ prior post? As a paying customer, I don't want to go searching through discussion threads to find solutions. If you've consolidated the important information in the first post or a separate announcement post I'm happy to read that.

To think this thread is so recent and I am just now deciding searching for a solution to this. It's good to see that the problem has been isolated. I will also offer myself to test the "private build" mentioned above, if needed. I am really only chiming in here to say that I am also experiencing this issue and hoping for an official fix soon and to offer any help I can give. Also to say cheers to INTREPID-LI for doing some dirty work and creating some functioning shortcuts that we can use while we wait. Thanks for taking the issue seriously!
I have sent you a PM with the build.
It seems to me that people are describing a number of different problems here that relate to the search function.
Is anyone else getting the problem where they can't find certain programs using the Start10 Start Menu search, further described in this topic?
For example, when I search for 'Snipping Tool' in the Start10 menu, I find no results. I find this program instantly using the default Windows 10 start menu.
When I search for 'Notepad' on the other hand, it still comes up in both menus.
Some installed programs (Substance Designer, LibreOffice Writer, xNormal) don't come up when searched, while some do (Blender, MusicBee, Discord).
The issue has been identified and a fix is in beta. The bug ONLY concerns searching for Windows system items (like Settings, Background Desktop Picture, Screen Saver, Printers & Scanners, mouse, etc.).
The Private Build (beta) has fixed the issue, so the final release should arrive soon. When released, Start10 will automatically update or you can RIGHT click on the start button and select "Configure Start 10", click on the "About" tab and then click on "Check for Update".You can also check for releases here (you're looking for a version higher than 1.60): https://www.stardock.com/products/start10/history
Hey, can I be sent the private build as well? Facing the same issue as everyone else. I can contribute somehow. I prefer contact through steam if you have that
