Good morning,
A couple of weeks ago, around the time 3.02 came about as an opt-in, my custom civ began getting the Incompatible Faction Detected - Unknown Ship Style error message. This is still happening today, so whatever caused it has not been reversed for 3.03. I looked in the debug file after another unsuccessful load of my faction and there was a string showing that one of the ships (a freighter type) had failed to validate. I have tried re-validating files many times, usually it starts with 5 and then progresses to 1 over the course of 2-4 attempts, then it changes nothing as to what factions load or fail. All of my ship set designs are downloaded from the workshop, and this one in particular I know I had been using as my base freighter for a very long time. I have 2 questions about this:
What would cause a previously sound design to become incompatible? And can I fix this outside of the game so I don't have to rebuild my ship set again? I liked all of the names and descriptions and I doubt I will be able to put everything back the way it was exactly.

Nothing? Guess I'll hold off on playing until I feel like putting Humpty Dumpty's ship list back together again. I tried sending in a ticket with the civ in question, the error log, and my computer specs but I got a message in return saying there was only email support for certain items and my issue almost certainly is not one of them. I was hoping for more on the forums, even if it was a "we're working on this" or "no, you have to rebuild it". I've searched the other threads so I know this is happening to at least a few others as well, I'm sure they would like to hear something too.

Hello, would you upload the ship style that is causing the problem so someone from support can take a look?
I would be glad to, is that on the Stardock support page?
No they usually would prefer you to put it into dropbox, or something like that and link it to here. I have the same problem, but many times over, and it was from almost the beginning. How would this stop you from enjoying the game though.
I only ever use my one custom civ, because I like the way it is set up in regards to abilities and flavor text and ship designs etc. I've spent many hours tweaking the look and feel of it because that is my "portal" through which I put myself in that mini universe. Whereas some folks get enjoyment from using different races and strategies to win based on the setup of the game, I prefer to use my one race and a limited strategy tree to win in the widest variety of situations possible. I recognize that this is not something that most (or possibly even many) enjoy but it has kept me in the GalCiv universe for thousands of enjoyable hours this way.
The ships used are all downloaded from the workshop, not created by me. I really enjoy seeing all the designs from other gaming universes being imported into this game and I appreciate all the time that was invested in creating those models.
Hope this works, just set it up.

Thanks, I'll pass this along.
OK, so it seems my issue is related to syncing items to the Steam workshop. I just went to the workshop in-game and looked for new civs. I did not download any, but when I closed out the overlay it stayed on Syncing Workshop Items for over 10 minutes. After using task manager to end the process, my civ came up as unknown ship style again. Since I am more used to getting items while in the Steam program and not while GalCiv is running I can make sure not to do that again, but any tips on what I can look at to make sure the sync works (which I assume has a good and useful purpose) would be appreciated.
Don't end task while it is syncing it does take awhile.
How long is a while? 10 minutes seemed excessive to me, even with ship sets and all. My computer is pretty good even if it's not top of the line anymore, and my internet connection is solid as well. I do know ending a task can have consequences, I rarely use it for that reason.
Do you have the Steam overlay enabled in GC3? Other people have reported problems syncing downloaded civs from the workshop if the overlay was not enabled, yours might be a similar problem.
Yes, the overlay is enabled. I just verified in the Steam settings In-Game tab.
So I lost a ship this way too just today. It was loading fine and then got incompatible? Sucks
