Just creating this post for anyone who has any questions.
You ask, we'll answer!
O.K. I have a few.
Q1, How is Star Control different from No Man's Sky?
Q2, You guys are good at strategy games. But you haven't done an RPG. So how has that changed how you make the game?
Q3, When are you going to make your forum software support avatar updating?
Q4, For those of us trying to avoid spoiling the game, what's the best way to get updates without getting the story ruined?
I'm kinda wondering about Melian's third question; I had posted a reply in another thread here on the forums, changed my avatar in my profile, but that post didn't show my updated avatar. I'm mainly making this post to see if it would show in future postings....
...Or was that beside your point Melian? If so, ignore this post; I just want to see if my avatar updated for newer posts.
Edit: Yep it sure did! Cool.
Ok, now that I'm thinking about it, I do have a question. Will Star Control Origins give the player a sense of urgency like it was in Star Control 2? Like how you have all those solar systems out there to explore, you visit aliens, even write down coordinates to a star system you were told about in game that may contain a hidden secret or two, but while you're doing that, you would still know that if you don't complete your main objective in time, then you lose big time. You never saw a timer in the corner of your screen ticking down the seconds until armageddon comes, but you're told over and over again in the game (whether by aliens, your advisor, discovering new artifacts...) that if you don't stop what's coming, then you're history. Will Star Control Origins feature something like that at all?
I got an e-mail saying as a founder my steam account has the new game already to beta but it isn't. how do I merge my account here into steam?
Thats odd. I’ll ask.
You're checking the betas for the Star Control: Origins game and not the Star Control: Origins Fleet Battle Beta, right?
I have a question - I got the e-mail about Star Control closed beta starting, but the thread says this is only for those who preordered?
Now, I haven't preordered, but then why did I get the e-mail?
If it's the email I sent, the first paragraph says:
Greetings! You're receiving this email because you have either Galactic Civilizations or Sins of a Solar Empire. I wanted to drop a line to give you an update on some of the things we're doing and let you know that Star Control: Origins is nearly done!
Greetings!

It also says "If you are interested in being part of the Star Control RPG beta" - So does that mean we need to pre-order then?
Correct. Our beta team only has the branch PW. We don't have any Steam keys.
Well, hmph. No closed beta for the BionicDance, apparently.
Anyway, I do have a query: apparently we're getting weekly updates now, yes? How will we know when a new version is out? Is there an announcement somewhere?
We will be picking people who pre-order on Steam (which you can do now) to be part of the beta program.
The idea is that we want to be frequently bringing in "fresh" eyes. Right now, the Founders have the beta. The next step is to start bringing in people who pre-ordered the game normally once we have integrated the suggestions and feedback of the founders.
Coulda sworn I had...
Yeah, there it is:
Well, in any case, if there is anything else coming up, my shoulder is always tappable.
Yep. You’re set then. The next round is this month.
Oh.
For some reason, I thought from this thread that people had already been tapped.
Maybe I mis-read something.
The founders are in. Next phase is to begin bringing in preorders.
no mac support? lame. Plans for a mac port?
Thanks!
Since I found out that this game was happening, I absorbed as much media as I could; what I've seen so far tells me that this game is being built by people who loved Star Control 2. Even though there are obvious differences--and there were gonna be!--I think they've managed to capture the feel, the spirit of it.
Now, I feel as though we've seen less character interaction and more exploration/combat, which is both good and bad; no spoilers, but less data on which to base an assessment of that part of the game. That said, though, the interface looks similar enough, the vibe is there; if we didn't already know that this is its own game, I could see it be the beginnings of Star Control 2 being given a facelift, re-built with today's tech.
What I wonder about most, actually, is how our interactions with NPCs affect the galaxy.
We've been told that the game world is a "living" universe, but what does that actually mean? How much can we affect it?
Apparently there are trade routes or something--if I read that right--and it looks as though empires can grow or shrink, as though borders can shift...again, if I correctly interpreted what I saw.
So, how much can we affect that? Can we disrupt trade by going on a killing spree? Can we wipe out an empire's colony on some world, reducing their borders? Or, when w're involved, will those things only happen via dialogue/quests (but possibly happen due to NPC behavior)?
Maybe I'm fantasizing too much--I'm always wishing for a space game that incorporates elements from Star Control 2, Master of Orion 2, Spore, and Elite: Dangerous--but what I saw intrigued me, and I want to know more. What can we expect from SCO in terms of empire-building-or-manipulation?
Would it be a spoiler to know if we will be seeing a return of Quasi Space or some other kind of non-hyperspace travel ?
some of my favourite things about SC2 were the thought provoking dabblings in other dimensions, be it from using a portal spawner to bust into quasi space, or speaking to inter dimensional beings or even interdimensional projections, would love to see a return of those sorts of things
Even if we don't see that ship with the main game, we can apparently build our own galaxy, our own adventures, and let other people play 'em...so I wonder how much control we'll have over the look of space travel. I mean, if we can say, "This sort of hyperspace should look [fill in color]," then we could say it's Quasi Space or some equivalent.
...or maybe it'll be red no matter what. I d'know.
So many things I'm curious about!
Will there be a Linux release?I have not bought a single Stardock for ages as there is no Linux versions and I am exclusively using Linux now a days.
where is everyone? there has been a dearth of activity on this forum lately. Seems everyone is focused on E3....
Hate to say, but...there'z not much to say.
Kinna waiting for the next update, myself; crafting is getting kind of old, I'm a bit fleet-battled out without new content--new weapons or other devices--and I really just wanna play the adventure at this point. Well, or if they could release the planet editor, that'd be awesome, too.
But beyond that...well...what's to say? Dead horse, well-beaten.
Well there are a few questions that they could elaborate on.... or at least tease.. "hey BionicDance, Great question, I could totally answer that, but spoilers and such. Tune in to our E3 Press conference."but actually my earlier post wasn't just towards StarDock. seems that there have been fewer customer posts lately as well....
