Does anyone know of a decent competitor to objectdock? Something like it but that is supported and continues development? I love objectdock but it is obvious that it is a dead end. No longer supported or developed.

You may try searching for "objectdock vs rocketdock vs". If you do, you will find a free and pricy competitor to objectedock. The pricy competitor is $48.95 for 2 or more computers. I would give you the name or company that sells it, but I doubt it would make it to the forum.
I would really like to see objectdock continue, but it appears that it is abandoned. There isn't much information about Stardock's plans. Note: "there is no plan at this time" is not a plan.
The owner "Jorge" of Winstep is and has been a member here for many years. Many people here use Stardocks great programs along with nexus dock. Object seems to work for some on Win10 and not others. I for one have used it for 10 years and love it. On my win ten and now my win7 machine I like to use Fences. May wish to give Fences https://www.stardock.com/products/fences/ a try as it's very good for organization.

And $24.95 for a single user license. $48.95 is the price for the Home Network License, good for up to 5 computers.
As for $24.95 being 'pricy' , just a reminder that the price of ObjectDock Plus while it was still in development was very close to that, i.e.; $19.95. Those are the normal prices for applications of this kind.

I am a Nexus user for almost an year and I can say that it is a great product, has a lot of flexibility and the owner is constantly improving the software, not just by fixing bugs but also by adding more and more features. He is actually listening to the users, responds to their requests and even implement the changes that people are asking for, when that is possible. All that does not worth the $24.95/$48.95? I think it does. And if you enter the winstep forum, you will see that I am not alone in thinking that.
Anyway, try the software and decide for yourself.
And the cost for it is minuscule compared to the work Jorge has put into Winstep...in every way, shape or form. Now if only we could get him to finish some builders.
Even though the RSS feed and weather dock have stopped working, I still find objectdock to be hugely useful.It allows me to use a shortcut for any part of my computer, and I have over the years collected some wonderful icon sets that allow me to make it look pretty great, too.
Oh, and version 2.0 works flawlessly in windows 10 home, as well as pro.
Probably worth the money as long as its stable on the system and efficient in terms of CPU, disk, RAM. (not a resource hog)
An update to my previous post on May 24, 2018. I went ahead and purchased Winstep. It has been a good product that is both easier to manage, has a better UI and has more features. The down side was cost but we just went to our university dinner and low and behold, it is cheaper than going out. We will celebrate our 50th anniversary in 3 years so in our case, I will have to pay for both to make it to 50.
Jorge Coelho is actively maintaining his product which is essential because of Microsoft windows 10 issues. I had a problem with Winstep that required email support and he gave me quick and useful support. This alone is a reason to use Winstep on your desktop.
A note about the Winstep problem. Winstep started having problems after an update to windows 10. At the exact same time I had problems with Adobe, MS office, NAS drives, and some stability issues. So far only Winstep has been completely repaired. Way to go Jorge😊

As for cost, it is as you said: it is cheaper than a single night out. But while going out will leave you with nothing but memories and an empty stomach that needs to be filled again the next morning, the Winstep application will be right there for you, day in, day out, for a very long time to come.
It's the type of application you use every single day to enhance your productivity - and I may be biased in saying this, but it's not only beautiful to look at as you actually have FUN figuring out all it can do.
I have been using Winstep Xtreme for several years now and attest that it is worth every penny spent, and not just on the initial product itself, but also on the annual subscriptions, which entitled me to all the new upgrades and innovations.
It is also true that Jorge is constantly working to create new features, improve existing ones and fix the bugs caused by Windows Updates. His efforts make Winstep the most useful, stable and enjoyable apps to use, and I would most certainly recommend it to anyone needing good and efficient productivity tools that look fantastic as well.
I also own ObjectDock as well, but unfortunately it doesn't work so well on this iteration of Win 10 on my main machine. However, I have another Win 10 machine it works well on, as well as a Win 8.1 machine, so I keep it for when I'm on those rigs.
To the people saying objectdock doesn't work on windows 10, could you be more specific about the problems you're having?
I ask this because i've put objectdock 2.0 on a half dozen different windows 10 pro builds, as well as a laptop running windows 10 home. And I have not had one single problem.So I wonder if maybe this is conflicting software being ran by some of you, rather than objectdock not running on windows 10.
At the top of my mind, here are the problems with any dock not specifically updated for Windows 10:
1. You can NOT add shortcuts to UWP apps to the dock, unless you point to an existing shortcut (.lnk) file instead of the app itself. This is because UWP apps are not Win32 executables.
2. If you are using the dock to show running applications, UWP apps will appear as two blank entries in the dock, even when closed and cannot be properly manipulated. This happens because Microsoft changed the rules used by pre-Windows 10 docks to detect when an application is running, because UWP apps do not exit when you close them (instead going into a sort of suspended mode), because UWP apps do not have an embedded icon like Win32 applications have, and finally because UWP apps are not Win32 applications but are hosted by a separate Win32 frame host.
Other than that, the docks will/should work fine. They just won't work with UWP apps *at all*.
I have windows apps turned off, so I can't check this. But I am curious though.
As a reference, I know that you can't just drag and drop "This PC" from your start menu into the dock. This doesn't mean it can't be done though. You create a blank icon, then change the address to reflect the location of "This PC" on your computer.
So what i'm getting to is this: Is it possible that those apps would also have an address that would work if typed in manually?And again, I haven't even tried, i'm just wondering.
Yes, but you have to know their AppID. That doesn't get you their icon though, which is actually a separate PNG image (among many variations of the same image) which you probably can't get to anyway because the folder where UWP apps normally reside is off limits even to users running with admin rights.
In the end, it's possible but just way too much hassle (and doesn't solve the problem of showing running applications).
Because Winstep applications are fully Windows 10 compatible, everything there 'just works' (as nVidia's Jensen loves to say these days lol): to the user, UWP apps in Nexus, Nexus Ultimate and Winstep Xtreme appear to be handled just like any other Win32 applications, no muss no fuss.
Except for Win 10 itself.....that 'just blows'...

What I'm recommending to my customers is that they try this well before the Windows 7 EOL date; if the upgrade works they're good to go and if it doesn't they can roll back to 7 and still have time to decide what they want to do next.
I can confirm this because that is exactly what I just did. I used a Win7 Pro serial I had here to activate Windows 10, so you CAN still do it.
I've found that ending doc64.exe with task manager after everything is booted works just dandy. No more slow downs.

Same here! Until it disappears below the murky waters of the swamp.
As soon as my mobo comes back from ASUS and my 3rd machine is up and running, it will have the copy of Win 7 I recently acquired on it.... regardless of MS pulling support in 2020. I need a machine that plays the older games we have. Win 8 and Win 10 don't. Win 7 always did and I'm going to connect it to my 65" TV for the larger display these games deserve.
