hi, want to first say that i absolutely love gal civ games. great job for coming up with the game, continuing to work on it, and also for the incredible level of involvement of stardock with the community.
so i had some issues with lag as my game in the vanilla version of cc3 so i tried version 2.8.
i started in an immense galaxy with like 3 alien races and set it towards almost everything abundant. basically to test out the version and see what i think and to compare the differences without too much challenge. i chose terran as my race. the first thing i noticed was that there were no research labs available upon game start on earth. i thought, thats weird ... but continued playing awhile to see if maybe that was one of the changes and that i had to unlock them. i researched up to tech capital and have 45 colonies now and still cant place any scientific buildings except planetary core.
is this normal? have i somehow missed unlocking something? is this a bug or a feature?
There should be a tech that unlocks the Xeno Research lab toward the beginning. I think it is Xeno Experimentation which does this.
it should be under xeno industrialization according to the terran tech tree which is inside the colonization tree. on this tech tree ive researched as far as fusion labs on one route, institutional research on another, and agricultural adaption on another . ive definitely research xeno industrialization.
but i still cant build a xeno research lab on any of my planets.
the only research tech i can build is technological capital, coordination center, and planetary computer core.
ive just gone back and restarted a new game. version 2.8.
researched zeno industrialization which unlocks the xeno lab. still cant build it.
sorry for the triple post
opting out of beta from steam and starting a new game. research labs are indeed available at start of game. its got to be a 2.8 bug
I just tried it in Crusade for v2.8 opt-in. For Terrans, the Xeno Research Lab is under the Xeno Experimentation tech.
I have no problem researching it, nor building it.
Now, I checked in the Base Game for v2.8.
Seems like the start building for research (which should be named "Research lab") is no longer available in the Colonization tech. As Xeno RL is an upgrade for that, you can't build XRL on it's own.
This is a SHOWSTOPPER BUG. The Research Lab needs to be available in the Colonization technology, just like Basic Factory is.
The problem is not in 2.7. It's solely in the 2.8 opt-in.
i dont have crusade. pure vanilla, no mods, no nothing. for me its in the 2.8 opt in. no research labs, no xeno labs, etc.
which stinks because i can see the differences in speed between turns already and the game hums at 2.8.
Looking in the files I see that Research Laboratory in no longer present in ImprovementDefs.
I'll notify the devs about this.
They stopped having the research building very early on and moved it 2 techs out to Xeno Experimintation (the research line). I see we are missing assets and Rhonin already is addressing it.
Even in 2.7 there was no Research Lab outside of the campaigns, only Xeno Research. At least for Crusade.
In Crusade Xeno Research Laboratory is indeed the base research building, however, Research Laboratory does exist, but it is exclusive to civs that have the Intuitive ability.
i play many games and its absolutely astounding how fast you all move and how responsive you all are on these forums. WOW. one could get spoiled )
when this gets patched or repaired will there be some way for me to know other than trying to play that version again?
