Do you think of yourself as a legendary shipwright with greatness just waiting to be discovered? Maybe you can join the GREAT STAR CONTROL: ORIGINS - SHIP DESIGNER CONTEST!
That’s right, we are challenging those with the Fleet Battles beta to build the best spaceship in this or any other galaxy! The winners, of which we will select 5, will go down in Star Control: Origins history as legendary shipwrights and quite possibly a little too good at cutting corners and meeting deadlines.
Rules - By entering this contest you are agreeing to the following:
The contest will be held from this date (December 19th) until Christmas Eve at midnight (the 24th/25th).
You may submit any number of ships within reason, but each entrant will only win from one ship from what they submit. So make sure they are your best.
Winners will be announced after our space elves (Altarians) reach a decision working through night and day on December 27th.
The ship must work in-game as a viable fighter. It can’t be a “show ship”.
Each ship must be uploaded to Steam Workshop for consideration.
Your ship must be an original creation, not copying an existing design (e.g. USS Enterprise).
Including lore/background for your ship is optional but not mandatory.
How to Enter
Prizes
From the entrants, we will select 3 winners and 2 runner-ups. Those winners will get to pick from any 2 game keys from this list, whilst runner-ups will get to pick only 1:

Sins of a Solar Empire: Ultimate
Offworld Trading Company

Well I gave it a go but I cant promise its actually any good!

I have been dying to play Offworld Trading Company, but any ship I make will be all function and no form. The artists and modelers will make me look like a 5-year-old when it comes to appearance. So I'll just wait until I can afford to buy OTC, haha!

FR-09http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1237339706The Frontiers Rubbish corporation of Earth has sent millions of units of waste material into stars for a variety of reasons. Ultimately, predominantly for use in Terraforming.But as their Media relations representative likes to point out, the company was built on humble beginnings, tiny rocket propelled pods of waste were clumsily biffed in all manner of directions, most of which hit their target, a few crash landed on asteroids or planets and one...One fell into orbit around a distant star system, where it was gently heated as its orbit tightened encouraging a bacterial arms race within the rotting radioactive trash heap.No sooner had one species established dominance, their top minds had calculated that at the increasing rate of their orbital periods, they would soon be cooked within their “homeworld” so they set about learning about their environment and before long, they had mastered the controls of their primitive rocket craft and by pure coincidence, they were already producing a renewable fuel source as a byproduct of metabolising the waste material in the canister.But after countless eons living in peace and confined within the vastness of space, they have found a new problem to adapt to, they've run out of food.Ever the resourceful minds, the colony sent expeditions (Boarding Party) to find food, but they rarely returned, they would usually splat against a nutritional object so hungry that they would turn rogue, forsaking the colony and feasting until reaching critical mass and dying off. If they ever did return, it was empty handed, looking for a ration. So the colony began work on a means of extracting nutrients from nearby objects using electro-gravitic fields to literally tear them apart (invitation), at a much greater rate of success and now, they set out to find their next food source.Quasitronhttp://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1237339192With telltale signs of having been manufactured at some stage, this unmanned robotic ship appears to have been fashioned after an as yet unknown humanoid creature, perhaps its' creator? But at this stage its' actual origins are unknown.It seems to be able to open some sort of inter-dimensional portal (Black Hole), but all science teams entering the portals have disappeared entirely and, after multiple attempts at contact, are now presumed KIA. To further add to the mystery, any attempts to come into hailing range of the robot have resulted in a localised breakdown of space-time (Demotivator) tearing apart approaching vessels with any survivors having sustained heavy damage.One thing is certain. However this thing came into being, it is now a threat to life in the quadrant and should NOT be approached for any reason.Derpen E-Jethttp://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1237338208Direct communications with the Derpen have been less than enlightening. Diplomats attempting contact have received multiple pictures of small furry creatures paired with unintelligible statements of what can only be presumed to be some low brow form of sarcasm. However, their ship A.I. appears to be highly advanced and has sent an extensive history of the species in our own language. The species appears to have evolved in an entirely isolated corner of space long ago and lived among the stars for the majority of their recorded history. Once leaders in engineering and information technology, their hi tech gadgets made life so easy for them that, for generations, their culture has been without need to advance or progress. By this point, they spend their entire lives doing nothing but capturing imagery of their pets, their meals and engaging in an activity known to them as “Trelling” where once an image is uploaded to their “clerd” database. They will then take turns adding unkind remarks to the image until the image is once again removed from the database in an act known as “Reij Qu'Ting”. Thankfully(?) before devolving into such a state their lead R&D teams had developed what is quite possibly the most advanced self maintaining vessel in the universe, capable not only of sustaining the lives of its “crew” but also defending its creators against hostile encounters by disabling their propulsion systems (De-Energizer Bolt) and stationing external turrets (Drone Release) to both detract attention from the ship itself and fire upon the aggressor once in range.Berr-kin Macehttp://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1237337362Evolving on a dense forest planet, the Berr-Kin had it all, until they realised their neighboring clans had it all too. Coming to the conclusion that they couldn't all have everything, the clans independently decided the only way to truly have it ALL was to take it, through open warfare. The Berr-Kin quickly became adept in destructive technologies as they took turns firing larger and larger explosives (Canister Mine) from camouflaged artillery positions within the the forest. This went on for some time until one day, the discovery of plasma field technology gave one clan a distinct edge, the ability to shoot through the surface of their planet. Initially this lead to precision strikes which quickly disabled the more immediate threats from rival clans, but once they were all were dealt with, the victors grew wary of a new threat, the possibility that the as yet unevolved inhabitants of their planet would one day become advanced enough to form a resistance and rise up against them. This could not be tolerated. In a massive coordinated offensive, the Berr-Kin began using their plasma beams (Big Long Range Laser) to scrub the planet clean of all life, flora and fauna alike. A great success, with the unexpected side effect of destabilising the planetary core, forcing the clan to evacuate in their largest battle cruisers and take to the stars just in time to watch the shell of their charred world collapse into a dust cloud.Not considered a peaceful race by any stretch of the imagination, they become particularly aggressive when reminded of the fate of their once lush and plentiful homeworld.
Happy to see we are already getting some nice submissions.
@Kavik: There is nothing to lose in giving it a go!
@Ghap: I have it a spin, nice take on repurposing the Scryve laser.
@Emperor: Faster than she looks.
@Nahtegood11: Reminded me a bit of the Syreen penetrator.
@Blasphememetic: Nice work, although remember that although you can submit multiple ships we will only select one for each entrant.
Special thanks to StarDock for bringing Star Control back! Here are my ships hope you like them!

Strogg Immolator
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1234563987
While the infamous Strogg Tormentor vessels were deployed in air combat above Earth by Makron during his failed invasion, the Strogg Immolators were routinely used to repel the inferior Earthling Cruisers in space.
How do you rotate/flip the entire ship in the editor? I can figure out how to do this with individual parts of the ship but can't find any way of rotating or flipping the entire ship. There must be a way...
@haomaicl: Wow, those are really good.
@Ashog: Strogg stronk.
Great entries so far.
Is there a way to rotate/flip the entire ship in the editor?
Duh... the middle mouse button I never use in favor of the thumb button that my mouse has.
A Kholigar explorer ship has arrived from the Omega Octant of a familiar, and at the same time unfamiliar, other universe.
This ship is inspired by a race from the Omega Octant of SFB called the Kholigar. The Omega Octant is like the Delta Quadrant in Voyager, except that Omega pre-dates Delta & Voyager by about a decade. The Kholigar are an aquatic species. Their ships are built under water and the “bubbles” of the ship are filled with water which is their atmosphere. This ship can operate in space, in an atmosphere, and under water.
The Menkmack mines on the tops and bottoms of the bubbles are the emitters for the De-Motivator. The sensor dishes are “Hybrid Sensors” which are very powerful electronic warfare systems, not represented in SCO of course, and the small bubbles in the center of the ship are where you would find things like the medical bay, explosive ordinance storage, and the computer core. The lighter colored bubbles are the crew quarters/off-duty areas of the ship, the darker colored bubbles are the operational areas of the ship.
I avoided using the Speed Boost as the secondary, which currently I would use as the secondary on any ship I designed to actually use against other people. The Charbroiled weapon and De-Motivator are a very powerful combination, but not nearly unbeatable like the Black Hole and Speed Boost combination is.

Hello, my two submissions are as followed.
The Eye
"Far reaching probes of the "Entity". It seeks out potential targets for harvest. Rare communication with the eyes have described an eye which for a short time will listen to its victims before casting its silent judgement."
The Hand
"Vanguard of the "Entity". It searches the galaxy for both Biological and Non-Biological resources for its master. It feeds on the weak and challenges most threats."
Both have been battle tested and do alright.
How about my abominable adorable Snowman?

Merry christmas !! This is my 5th ship. Hope you like it.
Tywom Flag Ship http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1241712071
@ShYariv: Nice, very aggressive looking ship. Has a bit of an Il-Wrath or Bird of Prey vibe.
@haomaicl: You're on a roll. I like all of the Origins-inspired designs.
@SchismNavigator: Thanks. I love to design ships and see them in action. Just like I did back in 2000-2007 on UQM v0.62. I recreated graphics for 21 ships. Some were my originals, some were from SC3. Star Control 2 is the only game I play for countless times. It's been with my for over 20 years!! Once again, thanks to Stardock to bring it back.
Did not have the time to REALLY get into creating many cool stuff (Christmas stuff, go there, spend time here and etc)
but i did manage to update an old design and create a new one!
Here they are:
THE CORE:

"Of their many ships, the Glutton is the one they use for an all-out attack on a colony, being the "fusion" of two common Phamysht ships, this Cruiser has the upper-hand of not only being bigger, but deadlier, It's Supper Time!"
That's it! Thanks peeps! all of you are amazing at creating ships, love to see this kind of enthusiasm and imagination!
Happy Holidays Here's my second entry:
