So I discovered this bug.
My system includes 2 monitors, the only 2 differences these monitors have are the refresh rates which should not make any difference.
In my case my main monitor set on Windows has identity 2 and my second monitor identity 1. I can't change that.
Fences in this case, when it's enabled and a new icon is created seems to use identities for new icons.
So when I am saving a file to my desktop, it creates the icon for it on the secondary monitor , on the very left edge of the screen, and you can kinda see the icon hopping to the main screen too
Screenshot included.
When I turn off fences though, and I try to save a file on my Desktop, it saves to my main monitor, as normal.
So to my understanding, Fences uses the Identity that is set instead of the default main monitor set on windows for saving icons.
If you need me to test anything more, feel free to tell me.
Easy fix, tell Fences to put all new icons into the fence on the main monitor. It's in the settings.
If I want the icon to go the general desktop then this doesn't solve the problem. I want the icons to go to the main display's general desktop where I can sort it manually, not a secondary display where I have a full screen program running.
I know this thread is old, but I'm shocked this issue hasn't been solved yet. Or at a very minimum give me the choice as to which monitor I send them to.
As mentioned by RedneckDude above you. You can create a Fence and put it in your main monitor or which ever monitor you wish. And then set the rule for that fence so that all new icons will be put into that Fence. That should solve the problem.

Basj,
I did read that reply; I do not consider that a fix, it is a work around. If I am provided the option to send everything to the general desktop then I expect the native function of my OS to be maintained. This is not what happens, it puts the icon on a secondary monitor with a full screen program operating; which can be quite the nuisance.
I have tried all new icons go to a specific fence in the past. I don't recall what the reasoning was but it didn't fit my work style. It would be awesome if this could be addressed in the next update.
Noted, Please check these steps to see if it help your problem https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#shortcutswrongmonitor
If not, please report back.
Thanks.
In accordance with the article, the registry entry was not consistent with my primary monitor display number.
So I did change the value, but it hasn't made any significant change. Now the occasional new icon will end up on my primary monitor, lets say every one in ten will actually end up on the primary monitor.
I'll keep testing and see if there is any significant change.
Sorry to pull this old post out of the annuls of time -- I'm having the same issue in 2022.
Wondering if a fix was ever made for this. Searching high and low in the program and online and can't find one... maybe my google-fu is just rusty.
For my workflow I actually do need the files on the "real" desktop, not in a fence. The workaround of making a desktop fence doesn't fix the issue. (I need to drag-and-drop files onto programs and printers, and dragging and dropping inside fences doesn't work--but dragging and dropping on the desktop does.) Presently, any file saved to the desktop flies to my left-most monitor, behind a program I need to leave fullscreen.
Same here, this problem is driving me nuts. Windows display set as primary, I checked the registry setting as per reply #5, same behavior. In my case, it sends all of my new icons to monitor #3.I confirmed this is caused by fences by turning off fences and then turning it back on. When off, new icons are created in Monitor 1, when on, they go to monitor 3.
