Fixes
note: we also have a ZoC issue we are working on. But I didn't want to hold up this patch for the fix. So when we have the ZoC fix, we will patch again.
Sweet, another update!
Any word on the borders bug fix?
Unfortunately that is beyond my skill. ill ask one of the devs to take a look at it this week if i can repro it
Ah, didn't realize that you were the one actually making the fixes! That'd be great if they could look at that, but any fixes are always welcome. Thanks for the response.
The ZOC bug can be reproduced fairly easily on my system (and I expect on others) by starting a New Game or by Loading saved games until, on loading up the new map, the ZOC has disappeared. One easy way to see this is to start a New Game in cheat mode, reveal the entire map by Ctrl+U, then switch starting places using Ctrl+N (which causes the whole map to reload) - assuming that the map has wildlands (which start the game showing a ZOC), their ZOC will disappear after a few reloads/start position shuffles.
Once the ZOC bug has been induced this way, the ZOC will not re-appear (Even if a New Game is started or saved game loaded) until you Exit the game and restart.
I've also seen the ZOC bug induced by myself or AI players Settling a new town using a sovereign, but this seems more intermittent.
Or you can simply keep re-load the game and you will eventually see border disappears.
It's due to memory leak obviously. If you re-load the game, and see the error log with full of memory leaks, it's almost insane.
....I really hope you guys would add monster zone of influence thing though.
Indeed. Given how many folks seem to have run into it, the ZOC bug should be pretty easy to reproduce. If you're able to get one of the devs to fix it, Derek, it would be so very much appreciated!!
I doubt this bug will be ever fixed, since it is deeply game engine-related issue, and I believe Stardock pretty much gave up improving game engine for this game.
And that was like what, 2014 or something? It's been a while Stardock stopped giving any serious attention to this game, despite the fact it is one of better Elemental series overall.
I have been able to repro the ZoC issue. We are looking at options today.
ooops, reply instead of edit... sorry!
Not a simple fix, I'm going to get some dev time to dig into it. But I'm putting the patch out without the fix until the dev becomes available (the dev team is pretty busy with Star Control at the moment).
Just glad to hear you guys have officially reproduced it. One step closer at least!
The beastlord fixes should really make some people happy, it has been the most posted about thing I have seen recently.
Thanks, Derek. We sincerely appreciate it!
I do not visit the forums often, but want to say this is still my favorite 4x fantasy game since Elementals till now and I'm very happy with the fixes.
I'm looking forward to any solution for the border (ZoC) issue I experience as well. Even if I have to wait while you are developing Star Controls, another title I look forward to.
As annoying as this bug is, it isn't really game-breaking.
The "Insufficient Space" bug that permanently blocks tiles from development and the "Battle Pathing" bug that locks the game in an infinite loop are both worse in my opinion, they just don't get comparable forum attention.
I second Go4Celerity. These bugs are big on my hit list.
I don't know how to reproduce the Insufficient Space Bug but the Battle Pathing is easy enough. If you have units that the AI can't get to, they will eventually try anyway. At least that is how it seems.
Oh and awesome on Star Dock that they are doing anything for this game. It is my favorite of the series and I am so happy to see that it can still get some love.

Stuck turn again.
Until they fix it, you really have to move you guys carefully to minimize the chance. If that currently hero in the front row was one square down and to the left there would be a path through your forces and it is less likely to happen.
Less likely but not impossible, I think the wolves have completely blocked the path and now one of the wolves in the back can't get to whoever he has targeted.
If you play to keep a path open as much as possible, you can limit the bug to a minimum. Can't eliminate it though. Nothing to do when it comes up but to hit the resolve now and hope the damage isn't too bad.
