So on Friday my adopted daughter called the ambulance at my request because I had gone down to the local deli for breakfast. By the time I got back upstairs I could barely breathe and damn near collapsed. This had been going on for about a week, shortness of breath and coughing up some mucous. Turns out I had contracted pneumonia. Treated in the ER at Chester County and after examining by the doc I was admitted. Had a bronchoscopy done yesterday and the doctor found a growth on my right lung as well as fluid around my heart. My hearts in good shape but the pneumonia hid a surprise. A mass on my lung that in all probability is cancer. Yup...big C had my name on it. Funny thing was it didn't scare me. The end results won't be in for a couple of days yet. I'll know then the severity of it and what course of action to take.
Right now I'm on a host of meds that include amoxicillin-clavulanate, azithromycin, albuterol sulfate, prednisone and guaifenesin. Damned if I know what all that means. I do know however that a complete 360 as far as life style is in order. More exercise, which I wasn't getting much of, lazy sucker that I are. Eating a whole better than I have been and in general turning things around. One thing the doctors say I do have in my favor and that's presence of mind. I refuse to stress over it as that would be counterproductive. Now I'm gonna go pig out. I'm hungry.
I think the highest ambo fee in Oz is around $7000....[it's a big country]...so it pays to be in the Ambo Subscription....about 100 a year....worth it as it also covers the Air Ambo and KiwiLand...
I remember years ago [like back in the 70's] when an ambulance ride cost me $570 to go about 1.5km. After that I subscribed to the QATB [Queensland Ambulance Transport Brigade] It used to cost me 20 bucks per year back then. Now the service is funded in part by vehicle registration fees and state taxes.
No update on that yet. What's getting in the way is my senior citizen status. Because I came to my situation a year too early my actual coverage doesn't begin until after the 24th of December, which happens to be my 64th birthday. I'm being given the opportunity to get in on certain programs that much earlier. I already have full prescription coverage, hospital coverage, plus a few other perks that I don't remember off hand. All in all I'd say that's not too shabby.
Also transportation is an issue as I stated in a previous post. Until all my shit kicks in after the twenty fourth I'm stuck paying full price to get to where I need to go and that ain't cheap, believe it or not. At any rate I will be getting there soon. My daughter, who is limping about at the moment, she dropped a really heavy skillet on her foot, has an account with Lyft, a kind of taxi service. I'll be able to use that. Fingers crossed peeps. Lol
Thanks for the info Ross, prayers your way.
Back in the day an ambulance ride didn't cost you a dime. You paid the hospital bill, which was about five percent of what it is now, and that included the ride. When I was about ten or so I was in the car with my family on our way home after a New Years Eve party at my aunts house. Two blocks from home my dad's car get broad sided by a dude who ran a red light. My dad's car was a 1959 Cadillac with the big fins and bullet tail lights. It was totaled. Bumps and bruises were the worst of it and we were all home by day break. Two days later the hospital calls and they want me there ASAP. I had hit my head on the cars roof and an X-ray taken of mine cranium revealed a hair line fracture. I spent the night under observation by a Chinese Doctor. I found out he was the head of neuro surgery.
So Im thinking that may be the cause of my insanity. What you think?
Well you certainly didn't knock any sense in.
Mind you, I've had a couple of knocks on the head and got no wiser, either.
Besides, insanity is only a state of mind.... and if you don't mind, it don't matter.
It was like the time a doctor was looking in my ear with one of those light gadgets. He said to his colleague: "Oh look, nobody's home."
Hmmm, I wondered why there was a beam of light shining on the opposite wall.
