I'm just a lurker here, but do have some considered feedback to share. This will seem quite negative and critical so I have to be clear that this is not a review - it's an open feedback post intended to be constructive criticism. I have 535 hours clocked on Galactic Civ III and so I obviously really enjoy this game. The many reviews available capture The Good aspects of Crusade quite well, and my steam votes for this are all "Recommended" as if you like 4x games, there is a lot of fun to be had with Gal Civ III. However, there are many things that fall short of the game's real potential and hence why I am taking the time to share my thoughts. With that disclaimer in mind, here goes:
I'll finish by reiterating my intro that I really like Gal Civ III and Crusade and have spent over 500 hours playing for that reason. It is the unrealised potential of this great game that inspires me to take the time to write this feedback in the hopes that some elements of it may be helpful, and in the long run then improve my own experience of the game too.
Thanks.

To be fair, having at least a low level of intel (via espionage) also let's you "see" the actual ship list stationed on any given enemy planet, and that can be very helpful in designing and possibly buffing your attack fleet.
I've several instances where the enemy had 15+ ships on a planet, and had I gone in blind, I'd not have been happy with the results.
Even without espionage, if you have your fleet selected and then hover the mouse over the planet to be attacked. It won't tell you how many ships you face (or what kind), but it will tell you how likely you are to win the battle.
To see the layout of planet tiles, I should be able to do that with powerful enough sensors or at a close enough range.
Except for planets that are enshrouded by weather or shielding, I should never have to put a spy on the ground. I shouldn't have to send a colony ship either (for planets not yet occupied by any civilization), but that's a whole 'nother subject.
A spy could spend the next 30 years just learning about the geography; more if the planet's development is not very advanced.
Requiring boots on the ground for learning about geography is silly (except for the cases I noted above). By comparison to GalCiv3, our current Earth's unmanned missions to Mars are far more advanced than future Earth in the game!
