Good day Everyone!I just recently updated to Windows 10 Creators Update. After the update, I'm experiencing a sort of delay whenever I clicked on anything on my desktop. Clicking the icons, right clicking. Everything has a delay on it.So I tried disabling Fences and voila! Instant response. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Fences, but performance is still the same.
Using Fences 3.0.4.12Any help or suggestions would be truly appreciated. Thank you!
Fences just asked me to update to 3.08 and it fixed the icon lag problem!!
Change Log:
I guess that's me! I have a triple screen with over 400 icons in different Fences and drop down Fences.
That problem has been annoying me for it seems like a year!! I was just clicking around my desktop yesterday.., watching the icon selection lag2-3 seconds behind the clicks. Wondering why I liked Fences so, so much that I put up with that.
And now it's gone!!
YEA!
Thank You Stardock and Devs for not giving up on this problem!
Since this problem was so major and lasted for so long, care to share WHAT caused the problem, if it is not too proprietary - just dying of curiousity.
Thank you very much. With Version 3.08 the clicking lag and "desktop typing" issue is gone completely.
It now feels even better than Version 3.03 was.
Great job !! And great comunity !!
Update 3.0.8.1Fantastic, thanks, works excellent.
No lag anymore.
whoah! I just updated to 3.0.8.1, and it's amazing! I see no perceptible lag compared to all the recent fixes!
Thank you so much for fixing and continuously improving Fences! CHEERS!
Finally we get the problem solved.
Thanks for all.
The reason it 'lasted for so long' was that it wasn't 'so major' but was actually difficult to replicate and thus pin down.
For some/several people it was 'major' but for almost all of the millions of users it was non-existent.
The frustrating thing for you guys was that it didn't matter that everyone else [almost] had no issues but that your own experiences indicated a 100% fail.
The frustrating thing for the devs was exactly the same, word for word.....
The frustrating thing for THE DEVS was that it didn't matter that everyone else [almost] had no issues but that your own experiences indicated a 100% fail.
I'll see if someone can shed more light on any specifics...
I am having this problem to not able create new Fences half year. Tried to uninstall. Nothing works.

Resolved - intel driver problem.
Saw that there was an update while randomly browsing and was skeptical, but it looks like the demons have been defeated. Thanks for all the hard work nailing down this bizarre bug.
And building on what Jafo said, it wasn't just that the product failed that was so frustrating, but that it took down the entire system. We couldn't just quit it or dismiss an occasional crash dialog box. It was, "Oh boy. Time to save everything, reboot, disable Fences, reboot (to be safe), and get back to where I was." Or, worse, that buggy software bargaining we all do where we tempt fate by trying to get just a liiiitle bit more use before troubleshooting. Click that icon, go back to work and write a paragraph while the click registers, go back and drag icon to folder, go back to Chrome. Forget it! We're using cmd! I got too many tabs open with half filled text fields to turn back now!
Anyhow, yeah, thanks a bunch. Of course now I am unable to activate Fences for some reason, but I submitted a ticket and will go through the usual channels to deal with that.
The problem is clearly NOT solved.I have exactly the same issue here now - Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, Fences 3.0.8.1.AMD Radeon R9 390 card as primary, 3 monitors attached. Plus Intel card used as secondary, no monitors attached. (used for virtual machines GPU memory)Issue is same one - with Fences disabled, right click menu of desktop shows instantly. With Fences enabled, it takes 4-5 seconds+ to see anything.
To the clueless person labeling WIndows 10 CU/FCU a Beta:Dear clueless person, none of Windows 10 Creators Update or Fall Creators Update are Betas.Windows 10 Creators Update is the first new Stable/RTM version of Windows 10 released in 2017.It was released in the spring of 2017.Windows 10 Fall (aka Autumn) Creators Update is the 2nd stable release for 2017. It came out in fall/autumn of 2017. NONE of these are Beta in any way!
I have taken the plunge and installed 3.0.8.1.
It looks like the problem is resolved for me with a 2 monitor set up on an extended desktop with around 200 icons in 12 Fences/Folders.
On my system the right click menu does display immediately, (unlike nakibest's problem above).
However, there is a strange behaviour when using "next desktop background" from the right click menu. The background changes on the "other" monitor, and not the one that has the mouse focus. A further click for the next desktop background does change the background on the screen with the mouse focus and then another click changes it on the screen without the mouse focus. I suspect that this is probably more a Windows 10 quirk that I simply had not noticed before, but I do not recall it doing this when I was running 3.0.3.
Like many, I would be very interested to know what the problem was. I know it seemed to only be a problem to people with over a certain number of icons, but even this was not consistent?
same problem! Thanks Zubaz.
Desktop lag is resolved on mine with 500+ icons and the last beta and 3.0.8.1.
That said, I have noticed some fences sorting error that has popped up in the last few versions ( as have been using 3.03 for ages)
Basically a fence that has a large number of icons, like over 50-100+ when adding a new icon to the fence it will mess up alphabetical sorting, and no matter how much you flip between different sorting methods it wont sort anything alphabetically. But on reboot of the system the fence will be sorted properly.
I've seen this, too, but it's semi-rare for me. I want to say that I got around it somehow. Maybe by disabling the navigate within fence option? Also, I've only noticed it with folder portals, but that might just be because I have more icons in those.
