Good day Everyone!I just recently updated to Windows 10 Creators Update. After the update, I'm experiencing a sort of delay whenever I clicked on anything on my desktop. Clicking the icons, right clicking. Everything has a delay on it.So I tried disabling Fences and voila! Instant response. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Fences, but performance is still the same.
Using Fences 3.0.4.12Any help or suggestions would be truly appreciated. Thank you!
sdRohan:
I just made a few tests on the "first" test case, and wanted to do some deeper tests on the regs.
So I did test each and every one of the 7 values several times (and in different combinations, trying to rule out what made the difference), and I am now here to present my findings. Now seeing you added a new test (I don't know how much you changed in the code, I haven't tried the new test), but according to the reg files, I think I've found the same thing as you seem to be finding.
For me, having all values at 0 and then EITHER NoClipHidden or NoLockHidden set to 1, fixes lag and double click now works.
With NoClipHidden the icons overflow over as described in the instructions, however with NoClipHidden 0 and NoLockHidden 1, I don't see anything wrong at all. And on the surface now seems like a fully working Fences without lag and missclicked double clicks.
I have no idea what NoLockHidden 1 does, but it seems to make a difference.
What for me feels like perfect is:
Note: I did NOT try your upload from 8th of January, but only the first uploaded version.
Thats fine, it was just reg changes anyhow but wanted people to not have to worry about that.
I will be putting this in front of the devs asap, thank you for the time and effort perbellfield, really.
Hi, tried the new client and saw a vast improvement just in the client alone.
Fences 3.0.5.12 = 5 seconds lag on clicking my desktop icon or folder
Fences 3.0.6.28 = 2 seconds lag on clicking my desktop icon or folder
Test A = Zero lag
Test B = Zero lag
Test C = No change (ie 2 seconds lag, altho placebo it couldve been like 10-20% faster unhinding icons)
Fences 3.0.6.28 = same delay
Test C = No change
Fences 3.0.5.12 = 4 seconds lag on clicking my desktop icon or folder
Fences 3.0.6.28 = <2 seconds lag on clicking my desktop icon or folder
Test A = Zero lag with problem (Icons are hidden but clickable - left or right click possible) (see pictureA)
Test B = 1-2 seconds lag with problem (shows me all icons (transparent)) (see pictureB)
Test C = no change
Yey for progress!
Test A - Zero Lag
Test B - Zero Lag
Test C - 2 second lag
You haven't worked it out yet?
Investigate color hot-track, because that appears to be the source of the problem from my investigations.
This is really really annoying - I'd be happy to revert to an older version till you get this fixed, in fact, I'd be happier on an older version.
But apparently, I'm not meant to run an older version, unless I archived it myself, or I want to download it from some 3rd party archive.
Give me access via the accounts page, old versions of the program! I'm basically in a position where the only choice I have is to uninstall.
And if you're going to have beta releases for testing, don't just post it in the forums, post it on the account site, so I can try it.
Really getting upset with stardock, I've recommended it to so many people, and now I feel like I've sold a lemon because of the constant changes for the worse, and now 3 months + of 'features' to workaround.
They gave a link to an older version 2 pages ago. You can use it for now.
This threads main issue was not addressed directly with 3.07. This issues is still be investigated.
That is interesting (and exactly what I would hope to have come from this thread - something in common noticed).I will pass it on to the lead developer straight away, ty.
sdRohan,
I just wanted to report that I am probably one of the few users out there still using one single display - so this issue is not a multi-monitor issue at least considering I am using one ACER monitor @ 1920 x 1080, as for mouse: Razer Deathadder Elite.
I appreciate you releasing beta versions of the driver to test, but my Stardock annual membership has lapsed during this period and I cannot download the official drivers without renewing my contract with Stardock... and to be honest, I am not willing to do so (yet, at least) as I do not feel I received the value for the money I paid Stardock for that period of time.
It is not thought to be a monitor size / res issue any longer.
That said, it is understandable that people that can demonstrate the issue will make purchasing decisions because of it.
I did talk to the lead today and he said to me:
'“Going to get this fixed!!!!”
I will let you know when I do.
Followed by: "ffs get off me already!"
Hi,
Ive been suffering with 4-10 second delays launching apps from the desktop for a year going back several version of Fences. I just now realized Fences was the source of the problem. I am currently running the latest beta drop but it hasnt helped at all.
I havent read the 6+ pages of this thread. Can someone tell me is there any workaround at all for this? I dont really care if it requires a registry hack or anything. I would just LOVE to get past this suffering.
I would be eternally grateful.
Answering my own previous post.
I manually added the reg entry NoLockHidden=1 using 3.6.75 beta and all my perf issue are GONE!!
Please, anyone -- What does this flag do?
Is it safe to keep?
@preinerShort term solution is to install Fences 3.03 versionSupport is currently working on a final fix.
Ok.. We have a new test build for clients with the issue:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dykx8436x0cdp3j/AADiIhmHwJA1Ttl-h0nifHL9a?dl=0
We believe (hope) the build itself will resolve the issue. If not, there are other tests. Please see the (new) instructions.text on how to use the new build and for performing the tests if needed.
If installed properly, your version should read 3.0.7.7:
Thanks again for your patience and help.
I saw there was Fences update released recently. Unfortunately that didn't fix the click lag issues so I decided to check on this thread.
I downloaded and followed the instructions to install the 3.0.7.7 test version. I had to right click the desktop to get the application to load still, but the click lag appears to be resolved with this test version. The only issue I see is moving the cursor along the icons with some speed doesn't highlight each one as you go along. It will wait until you stop to highlight the one you land on. I also found that when you drag a highlight box on a non-fenced area and move the cursor back and forth fast, the highlight stays there until you stop moving the mouse. Because of this, I'm convinced there are still flaws in this application. I have not tried any of the other registry tests yet.
Current version (3.07.6) is reported as unsafe by Windows Defender Smartscreen and does not download. Fences 2.13 will download so presumably there is something in the 3.07.06 file that Windows Smartscreen does not like.
I haven't tried the round of tests as I have stuck with 3.03 and File Explorer changed to single click operation which has worked for me until there is a definitive fix.
Just installed 3.0.7.6 update and lag is not there (Lenovo P50 - W10 64bit my system)
I don't know if this is because I installed the A patch or because - as I hope - this upgrade includes that patch too
The changes noted above were not included in 3.07.
After activating the test build 3.0.7.7, importing the "disable-all-tests.reg" file and logging off and on again, the mouse lag is gone. I didn't need to activate any tests at all. Actually, the felt response time between clicking the icon and starting the linked software, seems to have decreased to zero milliseconds. Clicking any desktop icon immediately starts the software on my machine. Fences works like a charm now... Even starting software by clicking on quick launch icons, works on demand.
Perfect work, thanks a lot!
My system:
Gigabyte XP170-SLI Mainboard, Intel Core i5 6600K @ 4.5 Ghz, Crucial 16GB DDR4 RAM, Nvidia GTX-980Ti GPU, Crucial MX300 SSD as System Drive
Yipee!!!! Issue finally resolved!!!I didn't need to do any tests. Clicking on icons inside a fenced area is a tiny wee wee bit slower than clicking a regular icon outside the fences. But its barely noticeable. Thank you so much to the team for resolving this issue! As the original creator of this thread, I'm assuming this case is resolved and closed! Cheers everyone!!!
My system:7700k, GTX 1080ti, Asrock z270 extreme 4, 16gb DDR4-3200 Gskill RipJaw V, 500gb evo 850 ssd, Triple monitor.
Excellent!
I installed 3.0.7.7, ran disable-all-tests.reg, and restarted and the lag is completely gone.
(The downloads, including instructions.txt, can be found here.)
Thank you!
This is the pending RC (release candidate) if anyone cares to test and report back.
