Good day Everyone!I just recently updated to Windows 10 Creators Update. After the update, I'm experiencing a sort of delay whenever I clicked on anything on my desktop. Clicking the icons, right clicking. Everything has a delay on it.So I tried disabling Fences and voila! Instant response. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Fences, but performance is still the same.
Using Fences 3.0.4.12Any help or suggestions would be truly appreciated. Thank you!
Good question. Fences is effectively broken now. The performance is terrible. I have to click on a shortcut and press Enter several times just to get something to open. Double clicking no longer works.
Zubaz,
I executed those two files you provided one at a time, then restarted Fences...
I noticed the difference after trying the unregister (so not after just the first: disable).
After unregistered & disabling, then re-enabling, I noticed immediately that the massive lag I have had lately went away. Instantly everything was much more responsive, however after a couple of hours of adding files to my desktop and moving things around Fences, the lag was back - not nearly as bad as it had been, but it was back within a couple hours of using Fences.
Thanks for looking into this.
Same Here, Horrible 1.5 - 2.0 second delay on selecting/moving/clicking the background/icons.
I'm bearing with it atm but it makes my computer feel like a sack of ****....
I Have tried increasing the icon cache and both batch scripts that were posted but there's no noticeable difference, I am also using Deskscapes I tried disabling it as well but the problem still remained with fences..
My System:
OS: Windows 10 x64 Version 1703 Build 15063.540 (Creators Update)
MOBO: Asus ROG CROSSHAIR VI EXTREME X370
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1800X @3963 MHz
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 3200MHz DDR4 (16GB Dual Channel) @3001MHz
OS Drive: 512GB Samsung SM961 Polaris NVMe MLC V-NAND M.2 SSD (PCI-E 3.0 x4)
GPU: MSI GTX 1080 Armor OC 8GB (PCI-E 3.0 x16) -> 120MHz Refresh Rate
If anyone have any possible solution/temp fix I'm willing to try, Fences really makes my desktop ALOT tidier but this lag bug makes it almost painful to use.
Tia
The support team and the developer team have reached out to a set users who are reporting EXTREME lag to determine what is the root cause and how to fix it.
If you have not contacted the support team, please do so.

Ticket sent thanks.
Same for me!
Extreme lag after the windows update, desktop not longer usable...
After going back to fences 3.03 everything ok....
klausrieger, so going back to version 3.03 helped you?
Being new to the Stardock family... how can I access the previous versions of your software? In "My Downloads" my individual downloads are the latest versions ONLY! Where can I find previous versions on the website?! The only one I have available to me is 3.05.
Surely there must be a section of previous builds for customers not satisfied with the current version to fall back on until the it is working to our satisfaction?
Thanks for any assistance.
The are no older versions from stardock.
If I remember correctly, I found them on filehippo, but personally speaking 3.03 has only very slightly decreased the lag for me, so your mileage may vary.
Im still waiting for the remote tests they wanted to run with us to debug performance.
For me it solves the lag issue completely!
With 3.03 the programs start immediately if I click on the deskop links.
With 3.05 I had to wait 3-5 sec...
Tested it twice with deinstalling and installing the old/new version...
But this version has other issues... see seperate Thread from me.
I found the old version after 2min. in google...
If you send me your mail adress via PM I can give this to you.
thanks very much klausrieger, i managed to find a 3.03 version of fences. i must say, this is very disappointing that a company will not allow customers to comb through older versions of their software - i can think of numerous companies where i can go onto their website and download a previous version, or go the other way and try an alpha or beta version if i was so inclined.
then on top of going back to 3.03, i had the pleasure of stardock reminding me that i was using an older version (every 24 hour hours a message would pop-up with an "ignore" or "remind me later" - to which i always (note: this implies it doesn't remember my choice) ignore. i'm starting to get the hint, stardock wants its users using the latest version!
so between the annoying lag that was never present when using desktop folders, and not offering or allowing me to use different build of your product 'fences' without being harassed daily (remember, i did choose 'ignore'), stardock - 'fences' days are numbered on my computer sadly. i really wanted to love it...
here's to hoping that you will listen to your customers, and that you will find a solution to this longstanding issue with what seems to be quite a number of customers.
I am still running v3.03 which is just about usable on Win 10 Creators. As I posted before this problem has arisen since Creators Update, and the current version (3.05) is unusable.
The solution for instant response is to change the click items behaviour in Windows Explorer, or, for frequently uses programs pin a shortcut to the taskbar.
Maybe Stardock will fix this one day, (dream on!)
Months later, click delay is still there on windows 10 with 3.05 when it isn't there with version 3.03.
This is frustrating, considering uninstalling the program all together until a fix has been released.
I will re-install 3.03, as the lag/delay is almost unbearable in 3.05 right now (note: why Stardock will not allow customers to access an archive of older versions of software is very disappointing), then I will block the outbound rule from fences.exe through the windows firewall so it will stop nagging me that an update is available (until that option is hopefully implemented).
Stardock (Fences) To Do List:
Thank you for listening to your customers.
I just wanted to give everyone a workaround that I just tried out that seems to correct the lag issue.
Instead of housing all your icons on the desktop, sort them in folders on the same HDD you have windows/fences installed and use the Folder Portal option to create a fence of each folder you created.
My desktop went from being unbearably laggy to no lag whatsoever.
Just did the same thing and the lag is gone..
sucks we have to do workarounds like this now when it wasn't laggy at all before.
I believe I'm seeing the same thing using a chat program's push-to-talk while the desktop is active.
I'll press and hold "v" while speaking and Fences will toggle selecting two items starting with the letter "v" on my desktop for several minutes after I release the key. It depends on how long I held that key down as to how long Fences is chewing on the events.
It makes the desktop useless until Fences is done chewing on those events so I hope this is still being looked at.
I am very disappointed when I give money to buy from a company a software that is not working properly and for many days the company can not solve this problem.
I hope for immediate and professional support from the Stardock's team.
I know about this note you posted on September 7, 2017 but since then it has been more than a month!... and yet you have not solved it.I have already sent you a request for support and I expect your answer to resolve the problem.
We are in the process of looking at this issue and when we have an update available we will let everyone know.
I used to have this issue until just recently after the installation of the Fall Creator's Edition update which seems to have mostly solved the issue for me. I don't know what Microsoft changed in the newest OS, but the desktop only has a minor amount of delay in reacting to user input. I still think it could and should be better but the increased response from the Fall Creators update is enough that it is mostly unnoticeable unless you purposefully look for it.

Your business model since moth's, made me wondering...
Anything new about this issue?
No. I made a new Ticket. Answer: Deinstall and reinstall. Doesn't work for me. I have massiv lags on PC and Laptop
