WindowFX and Windowblinds user since more than a decade...
But last few years, I was barely able to use/enjoy the product. After reinstalling my windows, I always think of myself this time I make it clean and beautiful, so I install my object desktop (shadowFX, WindowFX Windowblinds, Fences, IconPackager).
But every time, after realizing how much slowing the system down, make other apps completely useless, I have to turn it off (then it stays like this for months, until I have to reinstall my windows for whatever reason. Window movement stutters, windows disappearing. Incompatibility with softwares, menus. Embedded app windows don't work properly or none at all. And right now after a brand new windows 10 install and setting up my desktop and trying to play a game (for a few hours now) I have to turn off then uninstall objeck desktop again. The division just don't even want to start up with windowfx enabled (yes, added all of the existing exe files to exclusion list, uplay, webcore, the game, whatever exe related to games and apps its in the exclusion list).
I've reallized that I'm paying the license for two years now, yet I was barely using the product for like a month TOPS.
Uninstalled, and stopping the payments now, not buying this bloatware anymore, I think I was patient enough that you fix the issues that makes the apps useless for years. And this happening since windows XP, its not a new thing.
Bye...
Wow,that's drastic. Did you submit your ticket for issues yet?? It's worth a try.
I think there has to be a certain amount of insider testing, beta testing. These errors coming up for me are not new. If they didn't fix it for years then I'm sorry but not wasting my time with tickets, waiting for them to reply with the most basic crap they usually do, try to uninstall reinstall, blabla...
Example of the most basic bug that is in windowblinds for years: On exclusion window, you cant mouse scroll the window. You have to scroll manually with the bar at the side to select the exe file. Same function works on windowfx. They don't test their product or else this very basic issue would come up on their radar straight away.
They aren't paying for me to test their software and report issues and I'm a paying customer, I won't report the bugs for them. No deal sorry.
I have no idea what people is going to say,but I don't think it is a issue for me.
Are you referring to the Configuration dialogs for WB & WFx?
I've never experienced any system or application 'slowing' attributable to WB in the 15+ years I've been using it, from Win2k to Win10. Same with WinFx since it came out, though haven't used it in a while.
Regardless, the choice to use these apps is individual and if they're not meeting your value expectations you are right to abandon them.
Never had any slowdowns on any OS here on any Stardock product and been using their products for many, many years. You should have tried working your issues out with support, as I have a feeling it is some other software on your system that is causing your issue, a conflict with a Stardock product that support could have figured out if you let them.
Bugs which go unreported are by definition NOT bugs. They cannot exist until there is evidence of them. Yes, it's a little 'existentialist', but if a person ever wishes for a bug to be removed/resolved it is his obligation to notify Support, particularly when said 'bug' may be limited solely to one computer - his.
Discarding an app because its seldom-used config dialog has a window that doesn't wheel-scroll seems a bit.. silly. JMO
Thank you for reporting the issue with the exclusion list.
This has been addressed in WB 10.6
My issue with Stardock is after switching to Windows 10, reinstalling my Stardock Desktop so I could enjoy my animated desktops again.. no go. The friendly people at Stardock explained there was no codec in Windows 10 to make their product work. Really?
How would you feel if I sold you a product that wouldn't work without FIRST telling you my product would not work unless you found/bought or whatever some codec that Microsoft didn't include in Windows 10? Poorly at best.
Seems to me, it was Stardock's responsibility to supply the codecs required for functionality. But that's me. All Stardock could/would do is blame Microsoft.
As many of you know, one must be very, very, careful installing third party codecs one finds on the Internet. Adware, spyware or worse lurking in every download.
If the OS permits doing so safely, without affecting the security of the OS, Stardock will find a way to make their 'legacy' apps work in the newest OS, but it's simply not possible with every app. You can't ask Stardock to do any more than that. They don't make design decisions for Microsoft, they just have to figure out how to live with them. And they do disclose system requirements and compatibility for their apps.
I don't think you fully understand the situation. But that's me.
EDIT:
I stand partially corrected - see Neil's explanation below.
K-Lite is a free codec pack. I'm sure everyone on the site has this installed. You don't have to do anything, once you install it you don't have to mess with it. It actually helped me out with running media and videos on all my players.

Regrettably we cannot supply codecs with the product for patent reasons. Licensing costs would make the product unviable currently as the patents remain valid until 2018. Some versions of Windows 7 included support for MPEG2 videos, but later versions do not always (Some versions of Windows 10 do). All versions of Windows include WMV support, so any dreams using that codec will work fine.
Additionally any hybrid dreams or dynamic dreams will work without codecs and I believe every dream included with Deskscapes will work.
The codec used by a dream is up to the dream creator. If you have a DVD playing app you will almost certainly already have the codecs for MPEG2 of course.
Honestly I don't feel the 19.99 (discounted) price justifiable for a year of usage for the object dock anymore. I get the same software that you built years ago, and I do understand that you give me updates that might have some new features occasionally, but bug I kind of paying for bug fixes and the fact that I can use the product.
This price is really high, sorry to say, compared to for example games, that got 4-5years of development time and millions of dollars of costs to make... and I get them on steam for discounted price 19.99$ and I use them whenever I want, how long I want and I even get bug fixes and patches for free.
And as I mentioned before I always, ALWAYS have nuisances with windowFx, no matter how much I'm crazy about the app and want to use it with the most insane settings to make my windows management awesome, I end up just turning it off.
I am not going to explain everything that you have misconstrued and that of structure of Stardock software, someone else may do that. The only thing is that keep moaning about it is no use and not going to make any dent whatsoever.
Yeah, man. I know what you mean.
It really pisses me off that buying a car REQUIRES that I get fuel from another source in order to get the car to run. Why, the nerve of the auto makers.
