any one any idea what is wrong with this damn game? or what i have done wrong?
How do you know they dont work? Does the game crash?
Post a screenie of your mod folder.
FYI I would only use mods that are upto date.
as far as i can find they are up to date
as for knowing they are not working its simple the "Star Trek Colors" mod adds more options to ship color pallet at race creation and does not show up and a few of the others alter perk choices and they are not showing either i double checked before posting
decided to open debug.err in notepad++ and found a ton of entries like this
Debug Message: No files found matching mask C:\Users\MortisBlack\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Mods\Planet Features\Gfx\*.gc3wsdata which seems to be saying that the game cannot actually SEE the mods at least that's my understanding of it...
NO WORRIES GUYS! solved the issue by uninstalling all mods and the game and DLC since i did that it has not crashed on me once!
wasted an entire day trying to get this game working with the features and upgrades i wanted to no avail after deactivating mods and restarting the game decides to start crashing when i try and start a new game...so decided to cut my losses in time and money and say fuck it try again in SIX months+
glad i still have GAlCIV 2 the pinnacle of stardock and the only shining jewel they have right now since this is very very far from a jewel...
i have learned my lesson with Stardock NEVER buy E.A or new releases from them WAIT at least 3 years before even considering a Stardock title...hell GC3 was released in 2015 and its still a mess after two years! so i may make it four years after they release a title by then it should work as they hope/intend
After stepping away from the issues and going to bed (it was almost 3am when i posted) and coming back my irritation has dispersed and re reading my last post comes across as a childish tantrum and that's not how i wanted to appear so apologies for that! just really irritating when features that are advertised as working don't work and 12+ hours are spent trying to make something work is nothing but wasted time and effort
i will reinstall the game today and try and find the issue since i have the rest of the week off
From the 108 hours i have played i actually LIKED what i experienced
at this time GC2 is still the best version i have played but it IS showing its age and limitations..i HOPE this changes as the game is refined, updated and expanded!
Once again My apologies to Stardock and anyone who picked up a childish vibe from my previous post!
You need to start a new game for mods to take effect.
The Star Trek Colors mod requieres another mod(http://www.nexusmods.com/galacticcivilizations3/mods/4/?)
Also if you have multiple mods that replace the same file, they wont work with each other.(you would have to manually merge the files)
can you confirm that some mods do work?
currently no mods are working at all still trying to find the reason
Just tested the Informative Diplomacy mod,
i also get those Debug messages (
Debug Message: No files found matching mask G:\Users\morti\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Mods\Informative Diplomacy (Edited)\Core\*.gc3wsdata)
but the mod works for me.
can you zip up your mods folder and put it on dropbox or something so i can test if it works for me?
will do once game finishes installing...on that not when i installed last night it installed and finsihed today it is needing several updates which i assume is to install the DLC is it possible that previous updates went wrong on steams end if?
no idea, i only ever reinstalled once, and that was in 2015.
now i am getting content file locked C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\Tools\core compiler.bat....getting real tired of trying to play this game...
above issue was hopefully "fixed" by deleting steam\steamapps\downloading folder...will find out in 1hr and 10mins... NOT FIXED still has that message...
Is steam being retarded?
has my access to the game been cut off by stardock??

Balance Mod is way out dated. Will most likely cause big issues.
More Anomolies is also outdated and on top of that broken.
More Hull Types is also outdated.
I would not use these 3 mods.
I have not updated Improved AI since 1.83. It does not work with 2.0, you need to get the updated Informative Diplomacy mod.
You have installed the new GradientMaps to the wrong folder. These need to go in the base game folder not the My Games folder.
Game boots fine if you do not use the 4 mods mentioned above.
will try you suggestions also the gradients GFX folder is only there as a temp measure until/if the game installs spent some of the wait time building the mod folder...but seems pointless modding the thing with so many out of date mods atm and with the changes coming with CRUSADE i can see the rest being borked as well....
of course me getting crusade is entirely dependant on the game actually installing and working..fully expecting to see content file locked message again at the end of this 4th install...if i do see that message i will take it as my "permission" to use PURCHASED content has been revoked and just hide the game in steam and write off my financial and temporal loss
Modding the game is now a MOOT issue as i still get the content file locked C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\Tools\core compiler.bat.
i guess stardock has revoked my paid for ownership of the game now they have my cash they don't care it or works or not...
i buy my games because i believe in supporting the devs who make them...
i buy my games because its fair and just to pay for entertainment...
i buy my games because its safer than other nefarious methods...
i buy my game to support developers....
Quick search shows that this is an steam issue,
happens with other games too it seems
never had this issue with any game hell i never even knew this WAS an issue until today... tried every fix i have found and i STILL get the same issue all i wanted to do was play the game with a few mods and i have wasted 2days trying to get it to work and currently feeling burned out really really tired of BS issues that should not exist.. hell skyrim is one of the buggiest, glitch prone games i own and its still nowhere near as bad as this game at the moment...i can have skyrim installed and stable with 250+mods in six hours...
then my paranoia about stardock revoking my game are unfounded and baseless and i apologise once again to stardock!
i have FIXED the content locked issue! a few weeks ago i had trouble downloading something from windows 10 store and i contacted their support staff who were FANTASTIC they had me run a few things that failed and then they asked if i would be comfortable with them having remote access to my system since i ahve nothing "sensitive" on this particualr machine i agreed and watched what they did it took them 6 or 7 tries to find the exact casue and it turned out that the winsock protocols had become faulty and so they reset them using winsock reset which is exactly waht i have done and once again it solved the issue
Instructions for anyone else who has this issue in the future
open cmd console with admin privileges(search cmd in windows)
type: netsh winsock reset
then enter
then you must RESTART the system for it to work
SCRATCH THAT does not work as i have just found out missing DLC added factions try and get them to install and i get content locked message again...
alright the LAST thing we do is ALWAYS the thing that works...was my stupid AV screwing things up after an AV update that must have happened over night while i was downloading Crysis 2....did not even think to check the AV...
Hey Horemvore, you say that "More Anomolies" mod is broken. I actually have always used it since it came out and it has not caused me any problems. Could you tell me what is broken with it so I can decide if I need to remove it from my mod folder? Thanks.
Its missing the exp bonus and there can be an issue with the anomolies that trigger Mega Events, on occassion you get them popping every turn pretty much.
In general, if a mod doesn't precisely point out which version it is currently compatible with (or if it does and its more than 1 version behind) you should assume it has been abandoned by the author and I wouldn't recommend downloading it.
Maintaining mods is a lot of work, partly because of how SD continually patches and restructures the game... hopefully everyone is satisfied with the file structure and basics in Crusade and we don't have GIANT shifts in game mechanics (like the economy) every patch or so. That would certainly help make modding the game mechanics a easier venture.
That isn't a critique mind you, SD's commitment to drastically change what they feel they have to change is a strength and not a weakness.
i fully agree that change is absolutely needed for SD's vision to be achieved while mods are a nice bonus it kind of makes sense that some authors decide to wait to update things especially when a game is updated/altered as much as this one is and only SD knows how crusade will affect(non race/ship mods)when it drops i think my biggest issue is impatience/confusion with the game and how its modded from different sources workshop(personally dislike this option),nexus, these forums etc...
i have looked at the files for modding and quite frankly i have no clue how modders actually know what to change to get their desired effect as its mostly gibberish to me so i can only guess how much effort is required to actually make the mods we use...most i have been able to achieve is changing the odd race logo and quality of the odd planet(just to see if could)...
XML modding is pretty straight forward if you understand coding to any degree. If you dont, well it can be quite a learning curve.
On a side note, if you do want to use More Anomolies you can rip out the AnomolyDefs.xml from GST. It contains some of the additions from More Anomolies along with a few extra from me. (I did recieve a request to fix this mod a while back, but it is not my place to do so)
This is why I created the Tech Tree Editor tool for people who have creative ideas but have no knowledge of modding.
While it won't allow you to do the complex stuff that Horemvore does, it will allow you to create you're own custom tech trees with a few clicks and a bit of imagination.
I did plan on adding improvement, starbase module editors etc. (will wait to see if Stardock release their own editors after Crusades ships)
