To start... Like many SC2 fans I adored, nay... Still adore that game. I play it through about once a year and loving UQM in recent years. I generally do not replay many games! Now the reason I do this is not for the story - Its burnt into my memory. It's not for the melee - I've reached proficiency several times through the years and its definitely fun, but its not for that.
So what is the reason I keep playing SC2? - Short answer is that its for being in space and on planets.
So what I really liked in the teaser:
What I did not enjoy so much:
All that said I probably WILL play SCO as a hardcore SC fan. I dare say it will be nigh impossible to make a worse game than SC3 for Stardock games (great respect). And I would be remiss if I neglected to note that it looks good. It does. And we have not seen much of it. Some of my observations might be in error. I really just do not want to end up feeling like I'm paying for a name only. The name and the spirit, without the lore... I can dig.
I just need my old-school sci-fi vibes. I really do - So much....
i totally agree with you, my opinion on planets, and travel has been voiced numerious times in other threads here, and yes i would also like to harvest actual elements the whole mario kart idea just seems like you are set on a certain path and cannot really explore the planet and be immersed into it.
The only thing it would not agree with you is the size of the planets, i like the size they made them out to be, however the cartoony spikey style kills the realism, the sun like star was absolutely perfect, loved that, i also want that cosmic radio noises when you enter a planet system, that really enhanced the atmosphere too, stardock will have to look closely to that as well. As well as hyperspace music was really awesome enhancing the experience. Orbits, we have to work to get where we want to get just like in real space, as mentioned in a previous thread, we should not be spoonfed the planets, i don't want to feel like i'm playing a board game with someone else at home, the physics needs to be kept exactly like it was in star control 2, i would really like to see a hyperspace peek too.
i have no idea if they are going to listen to us or not, but if they don't it's not going to be a star control game.
The finer detail, changes here and the can mean the difference between a star control game and something totally different.
I agree. I think I have made the same points somewhere too.
Great feedback. thanks!
