Hey all, new ObjectDesktop customer. I gave WindowBlinds 10 a shot on my computer and it... did some interesting things to say the least. Upon first installing, things were fine. Then I selected a theme and boom, violent, spectacular crash of every process in the session. Very amusing to watch, honestly.
Here are some of the dialogs as everything rapidly crashes:

As you can imagine, it was not possible to get a screenshot. Absolutely every GUI window crashes. The Ctrl+Alt+Delete screen crashes. Personally, I'm surprised the WerFault dialogs were even working here.
So, obviously this is not Stardock's fault. I'm running Insider Previews. And nothing is forcing me to use WindowBlinds - indeed, I've had to uninstall WindowBlinds out of band simply to be able to login. I honestly just wanted to see what WindowBlinds was like, since the last time I even used it was as a kid. However, I cannot currently leave the Insider Preview - I need it for my work because I am relying on some syscall fixes in WSL that literally landed merely a month ago. So, I figure I may as well report this since I can't find any evidence that anyone else has yet. It'd be super swell if I could run WindowBlinds before the next Windows 10 stable release comes out in March of next year and allows me to leave Insider Preview hell. (Stardock are far from the only developers getting killed by Windows 10 updates - VirtualBox seems to die entirely nearly every other update, as an example.)
That all being said, here's a [slightly scrubbed] dump from Speccy about my configuration: Speccy dump
It is not possible to attach a debugger. I tried. The debugger crashes just as violently. So no minidumps unfortunately. If I had time, I'd try to get minidumps somehow.
I run Start10, IconPackager and Fences permanently here. Also Multiplicity (Pro) and Spacemonger. No problems.
I am pleased to report the root issue has been found and resolved the next update of WB (and WindowFX)
Thanks for reporting this.
Wow, that was fast. Kudos for nailing this down in just a week despite the fact that it was reported so close to a holiday. I'll be sure to update when the next build comes out.
Great !
That's great you already found a fix. Can you let us know when the new update is available?
Thank you... and sorry I wasn't able to help troubleshoot. Ended up wiping my drive and starting fresh.
Just for Info: Is there a date given the fix comes to public ?
Same problem here. Black screen after which windows automatically returns to login screen.
Logging on again, black screen again. So, stuck in a loop. Restart pc, no change.
Had to de-install WB in safe mode.
I read about the HyperV in this thread, is that a nVidia mode/driver?
Thanks,
arnoud
Update: I am wondering if I do have the same problem or not.
Because, I just read the Changelog of WB 10.5 on Stardock's WB site and saw there was already a fix for this Hyper-V in WB version 10.51.
The version I installed was the most recent version, which I downloaded 7-8 days ago from the stardock site itself, so must have been a (much) more recent version than 10.51...
Uhmmmmmmmm, WB 10.62 has been out for quite a while now, 10.51 is old now.
WIndows 10 Pro 64 bitWindowsBlinds 10.74 (054 64 bit) crashes Windows Explorer! THe solution is to unload WindowsBlinds 10.74 and then Explorer works fine with the Style applied forom WindowsBlinds 10.74.
Is there a way to fix this problem or do I have to manually unload WindowsBlinds 10.74 every time after Windows loads up to the Desktop!?
Thanks!
If you apply the Default skin (the first skin) within WB, it unloads WindowBlinds and WindowBlinds will not load upon the next boot or login.
Come to think of it, the current version of WB is 10.82, you might try uninstalling 10.74 and installing 10.82 to see if it works any better for you.
Maybe the 3rd time is the charm- If the problem is purely having WB load at boot and afterwards WB works ok, you can keep WB from loading by holding down the [Control] key for about a second while you're pressing enter at the login screen. The default Win10 skin will load, then you can apply a skin through WB.
