Here is the new face of skins in Wincustomize now. All the skins on Page 1 are Master Skins. Page 2 and Page 3 have only 2 free skins out of 9 on each page. Guess this is how it all rolls now?
I fall into the pissed off category. Although there are other contributing factors the main one is this.
I made the attempt to stay with the program by purchasing WB/SKS10, only to find out that the program I use the most was no longer skinable (PSP7). It wasn't broken and could have remained within the program but it was just tossed. I sniveled about this and was told to basically "get over it". I did just that by removing myself from the mix. I still skin as it is a hobby but I won't share anymore. You refuse to support my needs so I refuse to support you.
As far as masterskinners selling blinds, that is their option. They do deserve the right to do this and have worked hard to achieve this level.
Rather than complaining, maybe learn to skin. DaveBax is a good source to request help from (sorry Dave), but mostly it is trail, error and fix. It's not something that's learned over night. I've been skinning for more than a decade and learn new things almost daily.
I'll be at that age in January, good to hear that I'm not the oldest.
Too sad to hear you're not going to share anymore Greg. [e digicons]:'([/e]
-I wish you would consider learning Photoshop, I can tutor you Not a problem.
PM or mail Me.
Andrew
You better be eating a big cake on your bday Greg (huggles)
I made a skinstudio tutorial with pics and everything GMC2 even helped by putting it up on the wincustomize wikki
But I dont know where it is anymore or how to find it....
I still have a copy of that and sent ID a copy long ago but I don't think there is a concerted effort from WC to provide tutorial help.
I had a copy once but gave it to Anna. Too old to go through all those hoops once again, but thanks for the offer.
Making a Windowblinds skin takes many hours of hard work. Many (semi) retired skinners like me have not lost the interest in skinning, we just no longer have the time. I wish I did.
It's a shame there aren't more new skinners coming forward. What to do about that?
Perhaps people are no longer interested [e digicons]:'([/e]
The new generation just don't know it exists
You are correct Andy, Stardock does wayyyyyyyyy too little advertising of its products, software and games included. I could go out on the street and ask a ten thousand people if they have ever heard of Stardock Corporation, opr Windowblinds, and I bet maybe only 1 or 2 would say they had. When I show friends my work locally, I tell them how they can get the software. In the past other Windowblinds skinners I am sure contributed to that same type process, but with only a few of us left, Stardock needs to definitely step up its advertising campaign somehow.
P.S. Hint, hint Brad.
It's when not if as far as WB's. The money is in the games. Nobody I know could care less about WB's or even Windows. Most of the people I know who have computers have Macs. All they want to do is turn the thing on and surf the internet. The others want a PC to play games. I think Microsoft is to blame when it comes to the demise of skinning Windows.
It also seems like WC isn't as much fun as it used to be. Sigh.
I am considering beginning to skin WBs. I will, no doubt, be asking for help.
IF I can get back "into" skinning, after having lost interest. Winter is upon us, I should have lots of spare time soon.
And yes, some will be paid skins, eventually, And some will be free.
Also, I have a PC sales and repair shop on it's baby legs, that will hopefully take some of my time. Building gaming rigs has been my new hobby, since skinning lost me. Hopefully, I can come back to skinning. Before it is a lost art.
-Follow Vampys Tut & you'll be fine 4 the most part.
If I could find Vamps Tut.
this is the one i used for the very first skin. Just to say something to the whole topic.I used to love the time making a wb. simply because it dragged my mind off from other things. But now im spending all of my time building a house from scratch, there is endless work to be done, then more work, the very few time that is left is dedicated to the family.Would love to make another skin but it would mean to "steal" family time and that is most precious to me.Not saying that my skins were super duper but it was fun aswell as sometimes frustrating to make but mostly fun.Im not gonna start an argument about the price that comes along with a master skin, at some point i was eager to get that title myself but lost my interest pretty soon since it would give me personaly no benefits since i like the concept of sharing and if i want to make a living out of digital art i would go and make game assets or would "try" to make UI´s.Still i know how much work goes into these "seemingly" small themes, must say i miss a lot of the old guys Pixelpirate JJ.Ying Xiandi just a few to name. But i have respect for everyone that still releases content no matter if i've been in a digital fight with them before. To make a full skin one has to push and color a shit ton of pixels to make things look good and that takes time sometimes even weeks.I remember how i struggled to understand the margins and how to cut the startmenu into pieces. If Vampothika, k10w3, navigatsio and DaveBax aswell as Dani did not help back in those days i prolly had givin up on my first try.So if you are truly interested in how much struggle it can be just look at this thread https://forums.galciv2.com/405704/page/1/#replies.So yeah thanks to all of the helpfull skinners here on Wincustomize.Hope you get around with whatever you charge for your work. You guys Rock so does the Wincustomize community. If i spelled stuff wrong so be it, still early and we do not have any coffee.
A 'how to' for SKS is IMO long overdo. Not to take anything away from Vamps, I love her work but an update to explain how to use SKS (on Win10) for newbies would be great. I sometimes surf through DA and there are WB skinners who upload there, I even have a few. Hard work yes but the payoff makes it worth it. Do stuff to encourage people. Maybe some kind of advertising blitz.
Jim. Check Skype as I sent it to you there.
I sent him a PM with the same offer. Jim, let us know if you have what you want.
It's hard to remember to look at the PM status when it's hardly ever used. When you click on a thread/post it opens to the last comment so you don't even see the PM up top. Would be nice if they moved the PM link to near the last post so if you had a message you would see it as they are marked when one is there.
Hum, I PM all the time, ash AZ or gmc.
I understand Mike. Many people don't PM at all and some don't even know what it is so they never look to see if they have anything. No big deal was just saying.
I can remember a PM popup opening and staying open if you had a new message when you entered the forum, but now the popup closes very quickly and if you don't see it you may not even know you have a PM. Plus, what about people that don't use the forums hardly at all? Why aren't PM's on the home page of the site?
I say: Bring back The Skinners Profile page, MORE fun for everyone !
PLUS, it's very informative both for the skinner/member (PM's etc) and the skinner/member could have his or hers personal touch and you could see status etc.
Wincustomize is actually one of the sites where it actually makes sense to have profile pages for members...
P L E A S E Consider this Stardock !!
-All who's for it say YAY !!

Thanks Greg, and Dave!
