Stardock has revealed the stand-alone expansion for its fantasy 4X strategy game, Sorcerer King. Sorcerer King: Rivals flips the original game's premise on its head by giving the player the ability to become a god with your rivals trying to stop you through any means necessary.
Rivals has two new playable races complete with new sovereigns, spells, units, and abilities. Three new lieutenants join the Sorcerer King's army, each with new and unique abilities to challenge you. A new quest editor and Steam Workshop support allows you to write your own epic quest lines and share them with other players around the world.
New Ascension VictoryLearn the Ascension spell and consume the shards before the Sorcerer King gets to them first. Amass ascension points to become a god before the Sorcerer King casts his spell, and win the game.
New FactionsTurn the land into frozen mountainsides and enhance your warriors as Bazzal the Dwarven King, Sovereign of the Frozen Realm faction or collect bone fragments from vanquished foes and raise armies of the undead with Valemor the Archmage, Sovereign of the Necromancer faction.
New LieutenantsThree new lieutenants of the Sorcerer King wait to challenge you! Two lieutenants out of the list of five will appear randomly every game to oppose you. Face down against the Shadow Dragon Nabunihr, test your might against the Crystal Serpent Abeix, or train your bows on the great bird, Corvos, Bringer of Storms.

Also been testing out this game all day ( Sorcerer King Rivals ), you rarely get to be a Dwarf-God in computer gaming! Managed to reach that status in good ol' Pen and Paper RPG though. Mostly by ramming the head in places it should not be. But what is a head spike good for, without proper use, hmmm?
Time for some... divine meditation though. What mortals call sleep!
Has anyone got any feedback yet? I'm considering buying it. I thought Fallen Enchantress and Legendary Heroes were great. I thought Sorcerer King was... ok. As everyone has previously noted, the endgame was too grindy and too samey (although I did get some interesting results by setting the Armageddon Clock on Fast, which forced me to change my game style).
How different is Rivals from the base game? Is it more fun? Is there more variety? Is the end game better? Have they reduced the crafting micro management?
1. Craft - yes, this is only one thing that did right, thanks God.
2. More useless factions - why Stardock did it? They only spoiled the game. And I can't set outpost on they land. More faction - less land, more interfering troops.

4. There is less game's crashes happened, there is big plus, but it still happened.
5. Fun - the same.
If start game near the SK, you need to restart the game, because troops of SK destroy shards very fast, no matter buildings you outpost or not, and in the beginning you can't attack SK troops (or you will die very fast)
This is main changes. But old sins still there.
Big maps only 2. Heroes has only 12-15 level, they reached it for 2-3 hours of game, and that all... It is killing replay of the game. Load game - and you have to talk with SK. No chance to avoid it. If you will load the game every turn - you got plus doom counter every time. No fast load. No button load game. When game is difficult - I have to press ten times instead just " quick load". Idiots. Or developers never played on high level of difficulty, when you need load the game many times. Etcetera and so on.

Regarding feedback for Sorcerer King Rivals,
The crafting makes the questing more involved, which is a good thing. Looking for recipes is one more reson to go out there. Being able to put all manner of items on *all* of your minions, is great! Nay, grand! It makes for a customization sub-game, with a lot to cover. Which keeps you busy, if so inclined! High RPG factor!
When you have so very few Champions, it is puzzling that they come with such a minimalistic skill set though ( few levels ). I've tried to say a few words on Steam, and it is a positive review, all in all. I'm basically complaining about some oversimplification, with the city building, and with the Champions, and praising the more ( for me ) fulfilling questing system. Love the morality component, for example. The Populous-esque terraforming is also quite engaging, I love to permanently change the land, destroy mountains for the resources, cover it in ice and snow! Not a stranger to that land! Or Dwarves!
Not played the Sorcerer King itself, though. The premise was not initially my cup of tea. With all of this being perceived as something new, the freshness factor might have been magnified somewhat, when it comes to the perspective given! The perspective thus going back to FE. Which might be unfair on some levels. It was ultimately turned into a very solid game, after a lot of labor in the digital mines.

Had the original Populous game intro screen running at night, so I could fall asleep to the music. It was just so soothing! Not sure they would call it "music" today. But it was back then! The "hidden" point being that I'm not mentioning some vague and unknown concept, just because it sounds cool. The sequel was better even! And then they made something very horrible after that again. He he.
